Chapter 190: Chapter 38 Trapped Beast

For Li Yu, the biggest problem in dealing with that dragon was how to lure it into the trap he had already set up in advance.

After all, despite the might of the Sea King Spear, it was too bulky and not easily moved.

He had made preparations on the territory of the Double Rest Sect, but like the other Nobles of the Western Lands, Li Yu didn’t expect that the dragon, instead of seizing the easy prey, would simply fly away right over his head.

If the dragon merely acted on instinct afterwards, causing destruction in the Western Lands, Li Yu would indeed have no good way to deal with it.

After all, without a common language, it was impossible to predict where the Black Dragon might appear next.

But then the dragon suddenly started targeting important individuals from the Noble Families of the Western Lands, which indicated that there was someone else pulling its strings.

This was not a bad thing for Li Yu.

Compared to a wild beast, the actions of the person controlling it would inevitably be more regular, and regularity meant predictability and even influence.

That was why Li Yu hoped that Ireya could assume the position of the Alliance Commander.

Based on the intelligence gathered recently about that Black Dragon, Li Yu devised a new entrapment plan. By exploiting the suspicions and grudge-holding nature of the person behind the dragon, Li Yu was seventy percent sure he could trick the dragon into coming to Teacup Castle.

Of course, Li Yu had also explained the risks of doing so to Ireya in detail beforehand; if she became the Alliance Commander and ultimately failed to deal with the giant dragon, the prestige of the Arias family in the Western Lands would suffer greatly.

Furthermore, setting the battlefield at Green Field and using the Alliance Army as bait, relying solely on the warriors of the Arias family and the lizard people of the Double Rest Sect for Dragon Slaying, would also result in certain personnel and economic losses.

But since the site needed to be set up and kept secret in advance, Li Yu had no choice but to place the battlefield elsewhere.

Miss Rabbit was conflicted for several days upon hearing this but ultimately nodded in agreement with Li Yu’s proposal.

Which led to the series of events that followed.

Now that the Black Dragon had arrived as expected, Li Yu’s plan was already halfway accomplished, and what remained was the problem of how to deal with this monster.

The Crossbowmen who had shot the first iron arrow were still struggling to reload new Crossbow Arrows according to Li Yu’s orders, but the Black Dragon had already locked onto its target first.

Then, it supported its body with its wings and, using a pair of powerful hind limbs, climbed to the top of the stone castle in just a few leaps. It then leaped from the top, spread its wings, and glided easily over the outer wall of the stone castle, swiftly flying towards this side again!

By this time, the Crossbowmen had just finished loading the second Crossbow Arrow and were nowhere near ready to adjust the angle of the Sea King Spear to shoot, instead they fired off a hasty shot in panic. But that shot was far from the dragon, posing no threat to it at all.

Afterwards, the Crossbowmen received Li Yu’s orders to scatter and flee.

The Black Dragon paid no mind to the scattering humans, its intelligence sufficient to distinguish what was a true threat.

Thus, it spewed Dragon Breath once more from its mouth, wrapping the giant crossbow, which a Shipwright had spent over twenty days laboriously crafting, in scorching flames, watching it turn to ash, then, with no lingering sentiment, it flapped its wings and flew towards another Sea King Spear to its side.

Li Yu watched with his own eyes as the giant dragon flew over the traps he had set up on the grassland in advance, yet his face still did not betray any sign of panic.

It wasn’t until the Black Dragon destroyed the second Sea King Spear as well, still without landing, moving straight past the second trap Li Yu had hidden there, toward a lizard Crossbowman who was still fleeing.

With just a few flaps of its wings, it easily overtook the lizard Crossbowman, forcing the latter to stop and draw the short blade he wore for self-defense.

However, the Black Dragon simply used a flick of its tail to send the Crossbowman flying into the air.

The latter tumbled uncontrollably, spewing blood, and died on the spot.

Yet his death slightly delayed the Black Dragon, and that, along with the time the dragon had spent destroying two giant crossbows, finally allowed the remaining lizard people to retreat into the pre-dug tunnel.

But the Black Dragon clearly did not want to let these little mice escape.

The previous two arrows had thoroughly enraged it.

It had faced off against Hels and the thousands of troops he led, and it had clashed with the garrison of Rock Snow City, but none of the earlier large battles had posed as great a threat as those two arrows just now, which even gave it the sensation of having narrowly escaped death.

What angered it even more was that this time the intense danger came from a mere handful of people, not even amounting to an army.

So the Black Dragon chased down the last group of lizard people who had entered the tunnel, and this time it landed on the ground.

Folding its wings, it put its front limbs forward for support and then extended its head towards the entrance of the tunnel.

The tunnel was very dark due to the absence of light, so even with the dragon’s vision, it could not see very clearly, thus it leaned in further.

And this time its luck finally ran out. Under Miss Rabbit’s expectant gaze, the Black Dragon stepped on the trap mechanism next to the tunnel entrance, and in the next moment, the giant beast trap specifically crafted by the Double Rest Sect for dragon hunting was triggered, with the iron jaws on both sides of the trap, spiked with sharp points, instantly snapping shut!

The powerful clamping force firmly caught one of the dragon’s wings in its grip.

With a low growl, the Black Dragon was pained. Although the scales at the base of its wings shielded it from the trap’s sharp teeth, the impact force generated by the shuttering of the jaws still hurt.

And when the Black Dragon tried to back away to avoid stepping on other traps, it discovered that there was a chain attached to the beast trap, with the other end of the chain connected to something else. It struggled a few times, but each attempt was foiled by the pull of that chain.

When Li Yu set the trap, he specifically had a large spike made, to prevent the Black Dragon from simply running off with the trap, and firmly nailed the other end of the chain into the ground.

And now, that spike was playing its part.

The Black Dragon was both shocked and furious, especially when it saw the same humans it had seen disappear before now re-emerging from underground, with their numbers seemingly several times that of before, clad in armor, and wielding weapons as they charged at it, its fury intensified even further.

With the intelligence of this Black Dragon, it was clear that it had realized it had fallen into the enemy’s trap, but it did not admit defeat. Instead, its pair of blue pupils became even colder, flashing dangerous lights.

And this was the harbinger of an imminent slaughter!
