Chapter 183: Chapter 31 Unexpected Development

"You should hide as well," Li Yu said to Adelle, "Get ready, if there are any injured, I will have them brought to you."

The former priest knew it was not the time to show off her strength, so she obediently nodded and ran toward the nearest cellar.

It was only a distance of a few dozen steps, but as she ran, Adelle felt it was unusually prolonged.

Halfway there, her legs began to tremble, and her body stiffened.

Even though she had come to Green Field to help its people fight the Black Dragon in the swamp, when the Dragon was about to appear, she couldn’t stop herself from feeling terrified.

This had nothing to do with courage, it was just a prey’s biological instinct when facing a top predator.

In fact, with the approach of winter, the former priest could clearly feel the surrounding atmosphere growing tenser, and the smiles on the lizard people’s faces were much less frequent than before.

Everyone was like a string pulled taut.

Adelle had been here for some time now, and she had naturally heard many things related to the Black Dragon. The more she understood, the more afraid she became.

It seemed as if the beast was born for slaughter.

Its fearsome power, speed surpassing that of a cheetah, almost complete coverage of scale armor, and its abilities to fly and breathe fire made it seem like a mythical monster right out of legends!

Perhaps only the gods had a chance to subdue it; for ordinary people, its strength was undoubtedly too overwhelming.

Just the thought of it leaving the swamp made the former priest’s heart race and her limbs turn icy cold.

She ran to the front of the cellar in one breath, ready to dive in, but upon seeing a female lizardman with two children not far behind, Adelle stopped, stepped aside, and let them go in first.

She then followed closely after them, and before closing the stone door of the cellar, the former priest looked one more time in the direction where Li Yu stood. She saw the man standing motionlessly in the open space outside of the house, gazing toward the swamp.

The next moment, her heart felt like it had been fiercely struck by something, leaving an indelible impression on Adelle!

When death was about to descend, everyone fled in panic, but only that person stood his ground calmly, looking death in the eye!

The Silver Moon Church also had its fair share of influential figures, constantly speaking of compassion and bravery. Yet, when disaster truly struck, they ran faster than anyone.

Very few dared to put themselves in danger, let alone display the nonchalant attitude toward life and death like Li Yu.

Looking at that figure, solid as the Sea King Spear, the former priest felt her heartbeat slow down again, no longer as frantic as before.

Adelle closed the stone door and the cellar immediately plunged into darkness.

Then she heard the hurried breathing sounds around her, likely those of the female lizardman’s two children. She spoke to reassure them, "Don’t be afraid, Prophet Merlin is here... he will surely lead us to defeat the Evil Dragon."

Adelle used the Universal Language, and realized only after speaking that the two children might not understand. However, what surprised her even more was that she, a follower of Goddess Pexia, could say such words and not feel much guilt in her heart.

It seemed as if it were only natural.

But the former priest didn’t dwell on this matter anymore because soon she heard a roaring sound coming from outside the stone door.

The sound was clearly not emitted by any known wild animal; it was more like a mixture of many sounds. Although the pitch was not high, when it entered one’s ears it felt like being pricked by needles, indescribably uncomfortable.

Adelle couldn’t help but worry about those still outside, yet the anticipated inferno didn’t descend from the sky, nor did any sounds of battle follow.

The people in the cellar waited with anxious hearts for about ten minutes, until Li Yu’s voice rang out again, "Come out."

Then the former Priest and several people beside him pushed hard and opened that stone door again.

Adelle poked her head out of the cellar, looked around, and then asked Li Yu with a puzzled face, "Where is the dragon?"

"It left."

"Where did it go?"

"I don’t know, our watchmen only saw it flying eastward. It flew very fast, ignoring us. Our people didn’t even have time to adjust the angle of the Sea King Spear before it flew right over us."

"Eastward, isn’t that the direction of Teacup Castle?!" The Priest’s complexion changed, and he exclaimed in a lost voice, "This is bad, Ireya and the others are in danger!"

"You don’t need to worry too much for them. As soon as the watchmen spotted the dragon, someone already lit the beacon fires. Ireya should have received the news by now, and she will hide in advance."

Of course, Li Yu had also told Miss Rabbit about the plan to use air-raid shelters to defend against the dragon.

Moreover, the latter was even easier to implement than for them because Teacup Castle itself was that traditional type of noble castle with dungeons and wine cellars below. Just emptying these two places and making some minor adjustments would turn them into ready-made shelters.

As for the other estates in Green Field, they followed suit and began digging cellars.

Moreover, the beacon fires that originally signified the approach of lizard people were now changed by Li Yu to warnings of the Black Dragon. He had already conducted several joint drills with Ireya to ensure that non-combatant personnel could be effectively protected when war came.

However, an hour later, a carrier pigeon brought unexpected news to everyone.

—— The dragon had also ignored Green Field’s landmark building, the tall and sturdy stone fortress on the hillside of the Arias family, and simply flew straight over it.

It vanished into the sky.

This action left Miss Rabbit utterly confused, not because Ireya wouldn’t be comfortable without her old home getting toasted by fire, but mainly due to all the preparations they had made and the prolonged mental pressure they had sustained.

The young girl and her advisers had nightmares every night thinking about how to deal with the terrifying disaster, and when it finally came, it made a detour around your front door and then ran off on its own.

Anyone would feel dizzy and disoriented.

Of course, Ireya didn’t let her guard down, wondering if the dragon might deliberately let its prey relax before launching a surprise attack. With the cunning of the Black Dragon, it would not be surprising if it did something like this.

Therefore, she didn’t even order her warriors to take off their Armor, and simply let some of the women and children stay in the wine cellar, and everyone passed the night on tenterhooks.

Then... they didn’t wait for the Black Dragon, but awaited tragic news instead.

Miss Rabbit listened to the messenger from the Immanuel Family recount their tragic experience and couldn’t help it, she actually snorted with laughter.
