Chapter 170: 18 Chapters: Best Friend Mode

When Li Yu emerged from the subway exit, he was still pondering how to slow down the Black Dragon.

There were actually plenty of methods, but when it came down to execution, there would be all kinds of problems.

Especially considering the dragon’s own incredible strength, its ability to fly and breathe fire, and most crucially, its high alertness, so trapping it with some conventional methods was quite difficult.

Li Yu was thinking when the cell phone in his pocket suddenly vibrated, probably a WeChat notification.

Since joining the Third Era, Li Yu had not received any messages from the company or colleagues during non-working hours; in fact, he had searched the entire OA system and couldn’t even find a contact list.

Until now, he hadn’t added a single new colleague’s contact information. At first, he felt quite unaccustomed, as if something was missing from his life.

However, the events that had happened to him in this period were much more bizarre than not receiving calls from the boss after work. Now, after more than a month, Li Yu had gradually adapted to his new job and the new company.

He took out his cell phone and saw that the sender’s ID was "Ice Cream Cone."

"Ice Cream Cone" asked if he was still in City B and whether he wanted to join them for a two-day trip to the mountains over the weekend.

As Li Yu was reading the message, "Ice Cream Cone" sent another, explaining that she had been invited by two friends. Now, including her, it was two girls and one boy; they’ve booked two double rooms, but that left one bed empty, which seemed a waste. So she was thinking of finding another guy, and they’d split all the expenses for the trip equally among the four of them.

Li Yu skimmed the message, and just as he finished, "Ice Cream Cone" retracted the second message.

After a few more seconds, "Ice Cream Cone" sent a third message, this time much shorter.

——Driver included, four people in total, AA.

Li Yu had intended to decline because he already had other plans for the weekend; he was going to the library to look up some information to address the most pressing issue for him.

But after receiving the WeChat message, he hesitated.

Strictly speaking, this wasn’t overtime, but as the Prophet of the Double Rest Sect and the spokesperson for Bratis Continent, being busy with work on Saturday and Sunday didn’t seem quite right.

And what was most important was that in Li Yu’s previous industries, there was a tradition of overtime; even the department manager set up a camp bed in the office, leading by example with round-the-clock work, embodying the iron army spirit of not fearing hardship or fatigue with a ’work hard, play hard’ attitude.

As one of his subordinates, Li Yu naturally couldn’t have a normal holiday, and he had to order takeout for all three meals a day.

Only after joining this peculiar company did he escape the previous intensive lifestyle that was running on full throttle 24 hours a day.

But some habits are not so easy to change. Just as he always taught those lizard people and the little maid about the importance of entertainment and rest, Li Yu himself was actually the one who most needed to relax.

A suburban outing seemed like a good choice, especially with the repeated outbreaks of the pandemic. There was the risk of getting locked down if they travelled too far, so more people chose to go on short-distance trips.

So when "Ice Cream Cone" sent the third message, Li Yu replied with an "Okay" and then typed to ask what time they were leaving tomorrow.

"Ice Cream Cone" appeared not to have expected Li Yu’s reply so soon. It took about half a minute before she responded that they didn’t need to get up too early as none of them were morning people. She told him to send his address over, and they would probably pick him up around ten tomorrow.

Hearing that, Li Yu sent over the name of his residential complex and the location.

Cone replied with a little bear giving an OK sign, followed by another message, "We girls will take care of the barbecue ingredients. See you then."

Li Yu replied with a simple ’Okay, see you tomorrow.’

After sending the text, he put his phone back into his trouser pocket, changed direction, and walked to the nearby Hualian Supermarket, where he purchased some short-trip travel items and vegetable ingredients.

After getting home, Li Yu had dinner and then prepared tomorrow’s breakfast in advance—beef sandwiches. He made three extra servings just in case someone else hadn’t had breakfast in the morning.

After all, beef sandwiches stored in an insulated box could last a long time, so if they weren’t eaten for breakfast, they could be brought out during the hike for a snack.

After that, Li Yu packed his travel backpack, watched a movie, browsed some hardware forums, checked out the latest electronic products, and then went to bed.

Early the next morning, Li Yu even did a few laps of morning jogs downstairs, took a shower, ate a beef sandwich, and browsed his phone for a while. Around a quarter past ten, Cone and her friends finally arrived, fashionably late.

Li Yu, who had received their message, was already waiting at the entrance to the complex with his backpack on.

Soon, a blue Volkswagen Tiguan stopped in front of him, and as the car door opened, Li Yu saw the A-line skirt woman who had lent him an Electronic Anti-violence Device in the back seat.

However, today she wasn’t wearing the clothes she had on at the park but had changed into a casual outfit with a Japanese-style flair, waving at Li Yu.

"Sorry we’re late, Xiao Xi took forever to get out of the house," she said.

"You’re not much better. When we came to pick you up, you had just woken up not too long before that," responded the woman in the driver’s seat.

A girl named Xiao Xi sat in the passenger seat, while a tall, skinny guy with glasses that gave him a refined look occupied the driver’s seat.

Both of them greeted Li Yu in turn, with very polite manners.

However, Xiao Xi’s gaze toward Li Yu was somewhat teasing, while the woman called Cone then gave a brief introduction of the three.

Unlike Li Yu who met her through work, these two were friends she had grown up with from childhood.

The man was named Qin Shen, currently working at a bank, and the woman was Zhou Xi, a freelancer who took on commercial art commissions to earn money.

Zhou Xi seemed particularly interested in Li Yu, "You work at a consulting firm, so you must be traveling all the time, huh? What’s it like, have you ever gotten any of those little cards at the hotels?"

"I do have to travel for work quite a bit, but I usually return fairly quickly," Li Yu said. "As for the cards, I haven’t received any yet."

Stare~~~

Zhou Xi’s gaze was skeptical, but after watching Li Yu for a while, she couldn’t detect any signs of panic on his face.

Then she turned to the woman known as Cone and said, "Zhang Yanlin, has your friend here always been such a poker face?"

Before the woman called Cone could respond, Qin Shen, who was driving, already apologized to Li Yu, "Sorry, this kid’s head got squeezed by a door when she was very little, and she’s been like this ever since. Don’t take it to heart."

"Hey, you jerk, who are you saying got their head caught in a door?" Zhou Xi raised an eyebrow. "I’m just not as hypocritical as you all, not wasting time with insincere pleasantries and jumping straight into the role of close friends. This clearly shows that out of everyone in the car, I’m the most genuine."
