Chapter 157: Chapter 5 The Completely Useless Trump Card

In order to escape even faster, Jude even threw away his war axe, which had accompanied him for a long time and helped him overcome many strong enemies.

But this time, it obviously was of no use.

Jude now only wished his parents had given him two more legs so that once he got out of this swamp, he could return the sports camera on his chest to Merlin according to the agreement, then the man with the ugly face planned to immediately embark on a journey to leave Green Field.

No, he didn’t even plan to stay in Westland any longer; he was going to head east all the way to the coast, and if necessary, he could even board one of those Naga’s big ships to leave the Bratis Continent.

Because he never wanted to see that Black Dragon behind him again in his life.

Of course, all of these were predicated on him making it through the current predicament!

The screams and wails behind Jude were disappearing at a terrifying speed, and in just a short while, he could no longer hear any shouts or cries; peace had once again returned to the woods.

The ugly-faced man’s hair stood on end!

At his request, this 2.0 version of the Dragon Seeking Team had expanded its numbers to eighteen. Subtracting himself and the four who had died along the way, there were still a full thirteen people.

Yet, these thirteen people lasted for about thirty or forty breaths’ time.

What the hell kind of monster was this?!

Jude felt his scalp tingle; he didn’t dare look back, only able to spur his legs to run faster and faster!

However, the next moment, he felt the ground beneath him suddenly give way.

By the time Jude realized something was wrong, it was already too late; his thighs were instantly wrapped up by the mud.

Jude’s face twisted in shock; he tried to climb out of the mud, but he had taken too big a step before, now finding himself a certain distance from the shore. Even if he stretched out his arms, he couldn’t reach the firm ground nearby.

Instead, due to several attempts, he sank further down, and Jude dared not move anymore.

Black Beauty was anxiously pacing around, but there was nothing it could do; after all, it was just a dog and couldn’t do much in such a situation.

On the other hand, Jude, after initial panic and despair, had calmed down again. The big black dog tried to jump down several times despite the danger, but was scolded back by him each time.

The sole survivor of the Enríquez family bared his teeth to his only companion, "Alright, this is as far as we go. That thing is coming; you better run now, don’t stay and die with me."

However, Black Beauty didn’t obey its master’s command this time. Seeing that Jude couldn’t escape from the mud, it stopped circling and just lay down next to the mud pit.

"This is why I hate loyalty so much. One day it will get you killed," Jude sighed. "It’s pointless. I’m a goner, and if you stay, you’re just an extra meal for that bastard."

The big black dog didn’t reply, merely gazing steadily at the ugly-faced man.

Jude wanted to say more, but the ground had begun to tremble again, accompanied by a gust of rank air—Death had arrived once more!

A black head emerged from the other side of the mud pit, moving closer to the ugly-faced man.

Jude didn’t know if it was his imagination, but he thought he saw a touch of mockery in those blue pupils.

"Fuck!" the captain of the Dragon Seeking Team couldn’t help but blurt out an expletive.

Jude somewhat regretted throwing away his axe; at least he could have fought like that One-eyed Orc, die valiantly in combat—it would be better than being captured without a fight, almost like serving himself up on a platter.

But on second thought, dead was dead. Whether it was in a blaze of glory or a sorry state, what difference did it make?

The only thing that made Jude bitter was that Black Beauty could have had the chance to make it out alive, but for his sake, the loyal black dog ultimately chose to stay.

And now, stifling the terror in its heart, it was barking furiously at the black dragon, seemingly trying to draw the latter’s attention away from its master.

Its actions indeed had an effect, as the black dragon consequently let go of Jude and started examining this new creature it had never seen in the swamp.

But the ugly-faced man was far from happy. Instead, he cursed inwardly.

He was stuck in the mire, and being eaten was just another form of certain death. His only hope now was for his hunting dog to survive, as he saw the black dragon closing in on Black Beauty.

Jude kept shouting, trying to draw the attention back to himself, while frantically feeling around for anything useful.

However, he hadn’t brought any luggage when he fled. To run faster, he had even discarded his weapon along the way.

Jude felt around for a long time and found nothing useful until he reached into the mire around his waist and felt something hard.

A glimmer of joy flashed in Jude’s eyes as he remembered something.

He didn’t hesitate to fish the object out.

It was a little trinket he had shamelessly begged from Li Yu before setting off, which was said to be lifesaving.

Li Yu had given him two of these small jars; one was placed in his pack, while the other had always been kept close to his body.

Now was the time for it to prove its worth!

Jude vaguely remembered Li Yu mentioning that these little jars needed to be lit to work, but he had no fire scythe or fire tinder on him, so naturally, he couldn’t light anything.

Seeing the black dragon about to repeat its old trick, using its wings to poke at Black Beauty, the ugly-faced man gritted his teeth and threw the small jar in his hand.

He prayed sincerely in his heart that the power of the Divine Power from Saturday was mighty enough that, even though he didn’t light the jar as instructed, it would still exert its intended effect.

The cola bottle traced a beautiful arc in the air and struck the black dragon squarely on the head.

It then bounced off, landing on the grass to the side.

It rolled twice and then lay still.

"......"

If Jude had been wearing "gamer sunglasses" at that moment, he might have seen a big question mark appearing above the black dragon’s head.

Calling it an attack would be generous; it was more of an insult.

Jude was also visibly embarrassed, his trump card revealed to be utterly ineffective.

Could it be that he had been fooled again by that self-proclaimed prophet?

The captain of the Dragon Seeking Team was pondering this when he saw the black dragon reveal an impatient expression, opening its mouth to bite down at him!

Jude saw its sharp teeth and the bits of flesh hanging between them, remnants from some previous unfortunate soul.

And he knew that he would soon become a part of that macabre collection.

Just at this hair’s breadth of a moment, another smoking cola can fell on the black dragon’s head!
