Chapter 118: Chapter 34 Unity is Strength
Since there was no effective way to detect her illness, to be safe, Li Yu had Jan take antibiotics for four more days.
By the fourteenth day, the girl had fully recovered as if reborn and even began learning weaving from the castle’s nannies.
Apart from wanting to earn money to help alleviate her brother’s financial burden, she also expressed her desire to personally sew a cloak for her lifesaver, Li Yu, as an expression of her gratitude.
Fitzwilliam, having witnessed his sister’s recovery from near-death, was thrilled and comforted by the rejuvenated smile on her once gaunt face.
At the same time, he did not forget the promise he had made to Li Yu.
On the morning of the fifteenth day, he walked alone towards the west. After a day’s journey, he arrived at the place Li Yu had mentioned, where black smoke billowed.
Contrary to what the Shipwright had imagined, there were no grand temples built of giant stones or towering bronze statues, nor were there any elegantly dressed Divine Officers.
What first caught his eye were the odd, loaf-shaped buildings, from which the previously seen smoke was billowing, and if he looked closely, he could see flames flickering through small holes below them.
The bare-chested, fierce-looking individuals, who obviously did not come across as benevolent, would occasionally add some branches or sun-dried straw into those holes to maintain the fire.
Burning the kiln was an exhausting task; once started, it had to be kept going for three to four days straight.
The fire could not be allowed to stop; hence Li Yu divided the lizard people responsible for brick firing into several shifts, allowing them to rotate regularly to avoid anyone working too long.
As the Shipwright stood dumbfounded, inspecting the brick kilns, some lizard people also took notice of him.
In the territory of the Double Rest Sect, outsiders were an exceedingly rare species.
Apart from the previously missioned Dragon Seeking Team, ordinary residents living in Green Field would avoid these robbery-prone neighbors from the swamps as much as possible.
Lizard people rarely saw living humans or even domestic animals within their sight. Indeed, one couldn’t see any livestock or poultry.
A villager’s goose had once wandered over here, and the villager simply gave it up.
Therefore, Fitzwilliam’s appearance immediately caught the attention of the lizard people.
However, when the lizard people recognized his Half-Beast features, their expressions turned somewhat hostile.
Most of the nobles and lords on the Bratis Continent were Half-Beasts, and their ancestors had caused these lizard people much suffering.
Many lizard people had lost friends and family to the swords of those evil lords and their Half-Beast warriors.
If it had not been for Li Yu repeatedly emphasizing not to incite conflict with people outside their lands, they would certainly have chosen a lucky day to sneak out and teach the nearby Half-Beasts a lesson.
Well, even though they couldn’t physically act, intimidating this fellow right in front of them seemed like a good way to teach him a lesson.
With that thought, some of the lizard people began moving closer to Fitzwilliam.
The Shipwright could certainly sense the hostility around him, but being unfamiliar with the local dynamics of the Bratis Continent, he was oblivious to the grievances between the lizard people and the Green Field nobles.
He couldn’t understand why he was being treated with animosity without having said a word.
But Fitzwilliam reacted quickly, speaking up loudly, "My name is Fitzwilliam, and I’ve come here to thank Prophet Merlin for saving my sister’s life, and also, I wish to join the Double Rest Sect."
However, after he finished speaking, he realized that the group in front of him seemed as if they hadn’t heard a word, still pressing closer to him.
It wasn’t until a guy transporting fuel suddenly dropped the straw in his hands and ran over to give his companions a rapid translation that the shipwright suddenly understood that these people had not understood what he had been saying at all.
At this point, Fitzwilliam had given up hope of communicating smoothly with the lizard people; he just wanted to find Li Yu quickly.
However, a dirty hand soon wrapped around his shoulder.
The individuals who had previously been glaring at him now seemed like completely different people, becoming warm and hospitable as if they were long-lost brothers.
One of them, after hearing that he had travelled for a day, ran back to his dwelling to fetch some bread and water for the shipwright to quench his hunger.
Recently, the lizard people had been watching city promotional videos intensely, and listening to Li Yu preach about Saturday’s doctrine, and they had made it their life’s mission and pursuit to establish the Land God Kingdom.
They hoped that one day they, or their descendants, could live in forests made of concrete and steel, travel thousands of miles a day in little metal boxes, drink a beverage called milk tea, and eat a called Double Happiness sausage in these magical little huts called convenience stores.
Everyone was eagerly awaiting the day when this could happen sooner rather than later.
However, achieving this by their own strength, although not impossible, would require an immensely long time.
Not to mention their sons, grandsons, or the grandsons’ grandsons might not be able to see that day arrive.
So, the lizard people asked Li Yu, the Prophet, whether there was any way to accelerate this process?
Li Yu then used brick-making as an example, stating that one lizard person could only produce a limited number of bricks, and just the shaping alone could not be completed in ten days to a half a month, let alone the subsequent loading into kilns, firing, and unloading.
However, a group of lizard people working together, with a well-organized division of labor, could greatly shorten the time needed to make bricks.
Similarly, building the Land God Kingdom required everyone to set aside their past prejudices, stop hatred, and unite all the forces that could be united.
This example was clear and vivid, and the lizard people obviously remembered Li Yu’s answer.
And of course, the forces that could be united were those who already believed in Saturday or were prepared to believe in Saturday.
Simply put, as long as you believe in Saturday, then we are brothers born of different mothers.
This simple theory was also put into practice in Fitzwilliam’s case.
The lizard people surrounded the astonished and befuddled shipwright, and since most of them did not speak his language, they could only express goodwill through actions like patting shoulders or giving a thumbs up.
Besides, many of them brought out nice things they had gotten recently to share with Fitzwilliam, including but not limited to food, fruits, and pieces of underwear previously snatched from Li Yu.
Li Yu had never expected the lizard people to help him with the missionary work, at least not in the short term; he had no such wild plans, hence he had not taught the lizard people how to recruit new fellows.
Thus, the behavior at the moment was purely spontaneous on the part of the lizard people, primitive and rudimentary from a procedural perspective.
But it was precisely because of this that it seemed especially genuine, particularly precious to someone like Fitzwilliam, who had suffered major life setbacks, forced to leave his homeland, wander thousands of miles, and endure rejection and disdain along the way.
It gave him a feeling of being accepted and embraced anew, as if surrounded by family once again, nearly bringing him to tears.
