Chapter 103: Chapter 19 Crackle Crackle

"Sparrow Pie? Ah, indeed there is such a dish," Leo said. "Last time a sparrow flew out and even pooped in His Majesty the Emperor’s wine cup."

Angela exclaimed in shock, then sympathetically asked, "Did His Majesty get angry and punish that cook?"

"No, by that time His Majesty was already drunk, and he didn’t notice the oddity in his wine cup. However, a few ministers did notice, but no one dared to speak up, because when the King indulges in fine wine, the last thing he wants is to be interrupted, no matter what the reason," Leo explained.

"So my uncle, he lifted that spiked grape wine in front of all the guests and just drank it down. After setting down the glass, he even said, ’I think I tasted a grape seed.’"

Angela was so amused by this royal anecdote that she giggled, and at the end, she couldn’t help adding a sentence, "The Royal Capital is wonderful, there’s always so many fresh happenings every day, unlike our Western Territory, which is forever so dull and boring. Even attending banquets there is always the same old story, not interesting at all."

Miss Rabbit almost choked upon hearing this, and she felt like exploding.

However, seeing Fosto not far away desperately gesturing to her, she ultimately held back.

This was a different situation than being outside the castle, where the people around were mostly from their own two families, and any conflict of interests was a matter between the Arias Family and the Immanuel Family.

If she truly started arguing with Angela in front of so many people now, things could escalate and get out of hand, and as a host, it would not look good for her to scold a guest in front of everyone, no matter what happened.

If word spread, it could very likely bring disrepute to the Arias Family, and even fewer people would attend any banquets they held in the future.

Therefore, Miss Rabbit could only act as if she hadn’t heard Angela’s derisive remarks, gloomily eating the carrot and lamb stew in front of her.

Leo, however, upon hearing her words, said, "Forgive me, but I can’t agree. I find the Western Territory much more interesting than the Royal Capital."

"Oh? In what way is it interesting? I don’t know about it," said Angela, her expression slightly embarrassed, as she hadn’t expected her flattery to backfire.

After Leo wiped his mouth with a napkin, he said, "Take, for instance, something I came across not long ago. Someone actually had a way to record someone else’s voice and then play back that recorded voice... such a thing is simply unheard of in the Royal Capital."

"You must be referring to that man in black, the Foreigner, who appeared on the day of the Arias Family Head election." Someone quickly caught on and nodded, saying, "The events of that day really were surprising."

"Unbelievable. I always thought it was just a rumor, but speaking of it, you were there too, weren’t you, Sir Leo?" another person added.

"It wasn’t a rumor. Not just me, there were hundreds of people there," Leo said, "We all heard that guy from the Arias Family... Antonio, if I recall correctly, his words being repeated over and over, yet he hadn’t opened his mouth at that moment."

There was a ripple of astonishment among the attendees.

"So it’s true!"

"Indeed, since Sir Leo testifies, it must be the case."

"That can truly be considered a marvel. It’s a pity I wasn’t there then, or I would have witnessed this miraculous scene with my own eyes," said the Nobles, agreeing and expressing their regrets.

"Not to worry, because tonight you will be able to see the person responsible for it yourselves," Leo lifted his wine glass.

He had just seen Li Yu come in from the door, but he didn’t sit down. Upon hearing their discussion, he went back out.

Fortunately, she returned after a short while and found a spot to sit down in a corner.

Leo scratched his head, pondering what excuse he could use to escape the surrounding nobles and strike up a conversation with the mysterious black-clad Foreigner, but then he saw several attendants walking in from outside, carrying silver platters engraved with exquisite patterns.

The attendants walked straight up to the guests and set down the platters, then opened the lids on top.

Upon seeing the contents of the dishes, everyone’s expression paused in surprise.

Perhaps because she was not able to save face in light of Leo’s public rebuttal, Angela decided to make up for it doubly on some poor rabbit.

She was continuing to complain that the dishes at the banquet were too ordinary, that the mutton stew was too bland, and moreover, that the meat soup had been ruined by the radishes, and so on.

However, she had already repeated these complaints once before, and repeating them again would seem petty. Now in need of new material and noticing more dishes being brought in, she couldn’t help but feel pleased, but soon her brow furrowed.

She hadn’t anticipated that this new Family Head of the Arias family would actually come up with something entirely new that she’d never seen before.

To be precise, there were two items in the dish – one round and flat and the other elongated, both with a layer of transparent skin on the outside.

It was unclear what they were made of.

After a brief silence, someone reached out and directly picked up the round and flat one, licking it tentatively but quickly put it back down, saying truthfully, "It has no taste, not delicious."

Angela’s furrowed brows relaxed significantly, she let out a sigh of relief and regained her sense of superiority, laughing, "This must be what they call ’swelling one’s face to become fat,’ pretending to be rich without the capability to make new dishes, and only ending up making oneself a laughing stock."

Before she could finish talking, there was a crisp crackling sound from the other end of the long table, where a man dressed in strange garments was chewing on the round item from the plate with big bites.

And from his mouth continued the persistent snapping and crackling.

Strangely enough, despite the man’s face not showing any exaggerated expressions and merely chewing silently on the food in the plate, the crunching sound seemed to possess a certain magic, tempting the taste buds of the seated guests.

Causing many to swallow their saliva involuntarily.

But the quickest to act was Leo, whose attention had been completely diverted by the actions of the black-clad Foreigner ever since Li Yu appeared. He imitated Li Yu’s actions, tearing open the plastic packaging of the Snow Cake and took a bite, producing the same crackling sound.

He then gave a thumbs up and praised, "Delicious!"

With a proper demonstration, the rest of the guests also began to unwrap the transparent film on the round cakes and taste the puffed food inside.

For a moment, the banquet hall was filled with crunching sounds.

Some guests, thinking outside the box, tried the Shrimp Crackers beside the Snow Cakes, and then exclaimed, "This tastes different, but it’s also delicious!"

"But I still prefer the round ones!"

"No, the elongated ones are the best!"

The crowd argued endlessly, and Angela, looking at the Snow Cake and Shrimp Crackers in her own plate, grew increasingly restless.
