Chapter 100: Chapter 16 Merlin and His Double Rest Sect
Angela clearly hadn’t forgotten the grudge she had nursed from their encounter outside; upon entering the castle, she launched into a campaign of fault-finding.
She began criticizing everything, ferociously nitpicking.
One moment, she complained about the discomfort of the chairs; the next, she proclaimed the room’s furnishings to be outdated and tacky.
Additionally, as the guests were almost all present, a malicious glee became even more evident on Angela’s face. In fact, many had noticed that most of the representatives sent by the major families to attend the banquet were younger members.
Apart from a few small families and the Batoris Family, which had generations of good relations with the Arias Family, and who came in person, the rest were uniformly representatives, predominantly the younger generation of their families, touting the excuse that it was good for the youth to network.
Miss Rabbit’s expression also seemed somewhat unnatural.
While most guests, unlike Angela, were not so difficult to serve and at least appeared courteous on the surface, and brought generous gifts, Ireya still sensed a faint, almost imperceptible disdain from them.
By contrast, during the wedding of Diodosi, the current Family Head of the Immanuel Family, it was said that more than half the Family Heads from the western region personally attended to offer their congratulations; Ruse, Ireya’s father, also made the trip and presented a substantial gift.
But there was nothing to be done about it; after all, who could argue with the strength and wealth of the Immanuel Family?
In this world, that’s the reality—Miss Rabbit could only vent her frustration in silence. Talking about revitalizing the family was easy, but actually achieving it was far from straightforward.
As you exert your efforts, your competitors are not idle; moreover, they stoop lower and have no shame.
It was already challenging enough to tread water; there was certainly room for those at the bottom to slip further back.
However, Angela’s gloating was short-lived, as the last to arrive was David, the eldest son of Marquis Kuren, showing that the Figrola Family continued their unwavering support for the Arias Family.
Although Marquis Kuren himself did not come, his representative, David, widely regarded as the successor to the Figrola Family headship, had been consciously groomed by the Marquis to take over an increasing share of the family’s affairs.
In practice, David was already the second in command of the Figrola Family; he had many daily responsibilities, yet he still set aside his work to attend the banquet hosted by the new Family Head of the Arias Family, highlighting the importance the Figrola Family placed on the event.
And he didn’t come alone; he brought a companion, someone Miss Rabbit knew all too well.
—Sir Leo, of royal bloodline.
Leo was the third son of Timothy, the brother of the current Emperor Edward II, and held a distinguished status. Roughly three months earlier, he had suddenly left the Royal Capital and come to the western region.
No one but Marquis Kuren knew his purpose for being there.
After his arrival in the west, he took up residence in Marquis Kuren’s Mansion. He refused to meet with the nobles who came to call upon hearing the news. Instead, he would frequently wander the streets and alleys of Rock Snow City on his own, striking up conversations with local mercenaries, merchants, actors, and prostitutes.
By buying them drinks, he exchanged for a variety of peculiar little stories and an assortment of travel anecdotes.
Essentially, he was busy with everything but serious matters.
He was also present as a spectator during the Arias Family’s election of a Family Head, where he had gallantly spoken out and assisted Miss Rabbit. No one expected that Ireya’s banquet would once again draw Leo’s attention.
Some, like Angela of the Immanuel Family, were even beginning to wonder if the Emperor’s nephew had fallen in love with the new Family Head of the Arias family.
But it made no sense, this Miss Rabbit was both coarse-lipped and lacking in manners, and she didn’t have much to show off in terms of her figure either. As for the Arias family behind her, they might have a bit of a reputation in the western region, but in the Royal Capital, they were genuine country bumpkins, virtually unheard of, and certainly unable to offer Leo any help.
If Leo really wanted to find himself a wife in the west, he could have easily chosen someone better. Thinking this, Angela couldn’t help but puff out her chest.
In terms of looks, she was confident she could match anyone, in terms of dress and manners, she didn’t know how many times better she was than that bumpkin Family Head of the Arias family, not to mention the Immanuel Family backing her up.
A little money slipped through her father’s fingers was more than enough for that poor Miss Rabbit to scrimp for a long while.
Moreover, Angela had reached the age to be married off, and if she could marry into the Royal Family, she could leave the barren and savage west behind and return to the Royal Capital with Leo.
She could live in a beautiful palace, make friends with true noble ladies, and fully enjoy the bustling prosperity of Lion Heart Castle and the envious glances of other women.
Such a life was exactly what Angela had been dreaming of.
The gaze of the Immanuel Family’s Miss turned feverishly towards Leo.
She straightened her clothes and approached to strike up a conversation with a smile as sweet as could be, but Leo only gave her a glance, responded with a few perfunctory words, and then found an excuse to walk away.
What made Angela gnash her teeth in fury was that Leo, after making a round, actually went back to that country bumpkin Miss Rabbit.
"Miss Irelia, congratulations on becoming the Lord of Green Field."
"This is all thanks to Sir Leo’s help at the time," Ireya gratefully said.
"There’s nothing to thank me for, I just voiced what most people there were thinking at the time," Leo replied with a wave of his hand, cutting straight to the point, "How come I haven’t seen your human advisor? The Foreigner dressed in black clothes. I said I wanted to have a drink with him, but then you left without saying goodbye that day."
"It’s because I suddenly remembered some urgent matters at home that needed to be dealt with, so I didn’t have the chance to say farewell," the young lady replied, "and besides, Merlin is no longer my advisor."
"He left?" Leo asked, surprised, his face showing a hint of disappointment.
"No, he’s still in Green Field, just busy with matters concerning the sect," Miss Rabbit explained.
"The sect?" Leo’s interest was piqued, "What sect... Did Merlin come to the Bratis Continent with his sect?"
"Um... more or less," Ireya vaguely responded.
The identity of the lizard people was somewhat difficult to explain; those bandits from the swamp had been opposing the Arias family for hundreds of years, and they had chased her all the way back to Teacup Castle not long before. Afterward, Ireya was in a hurry to seek assistance from other families in the western region.
This matter was somewhat embarrassing, and Miss Rabbit did not wish to discuss it further.
Leo’s curiosity only grew stronger, "What’s the name of his sect?"
"I think it’s called something like the Double Rest Sect, and they worship a Foreign God named Saturday," Ireya said.
"Interesting, interesting," Leo repeated, stroking his chin, then he added, "Where can I find Merlin and his Double Rest Sect?"
"I don’t actually know much about the Double Rest Sect, Merlin should be coming over later, you can ask him yourself then," Ireya suggested.
