Chapter 76: I Heard You Want to Castrate Him

Chapter 76: I Heard You Want to Castrate Him

Monday was an exceptionally busy day at Xu International. Every single staff was extremely preoccupied with their workload.

"Haa... I need coffee... my fifth coffee..."

"Hey! This is the wrong file! Get the right one for me!"

"Manager Fu wants us to re-present everything before the Qingming break. Kill me ah..."

Leslie didn’t feel like wandering around the company in the morning. She felt guilty for being the only carefree person even though she was not one of the employees.

It was better if she stayed in the lounge, the place she could be alone.

Oh, CEO Xu was busy too. She witnessed the moment he became a fire-breathing dragon to the pitiful department heads who were forced to face him.

Certainly, it was not a scene worth to be memorized.

"It’s already ten-thirty," Leslie looked up from the romance novel in her hands, staring at the wall clock, "I thought it’s still nine."

The time passed by so fast.

Leslie and Calix arrived at Xu International around eight in the morning. Without wasting time, the latter immediately headed to his office. She initially sat on the couch, watching CEO Xu working.

After a short meeting with Edward who reminded Calix of his schedule and other arrangements for today and this week, several other people came to the office.

All of them seemed to hold important roles in the company. They were also significantly older than Calix. But, none dared to interrupt when he was mad.

Leslie didn’t want to pry into Calix’s work even though she understood nothing about it. Thus, she retreated to the lounge.

"What should I do, hurm?"

Instead of watching a drama or a movie, Leslie opted to read a romance novel. She picked one among the tall stack brought by Edward last week.

The book’s synopsis intrigued Leslie.

’The CEO of My Dreams Returned to Me’[1]

This book was originally a NovelFire. The highly sensational story was turned into printed books due to huge demands.

Leslie hadn’t reached halfway of it but, she was already so engrossed in the story.

The female lead was the abused wife of a sadistic man. After almost a decade of marriage, she fought to regain her freedom and her deceased father’s company from her snake-like husband’s hands.

Eventually, the female lead encountered the male lead again.

Resembling a phoenix rose from the ashes, the once poverty-stricken young man went through countless hurdles before holding absolute power in his hands.

The male lead returned to the country to repay the life-changing favor she did to him years ago.

"Geez... This kind of man shouldn’t breed ah! If I can get into this book, I’ll castrate you! What a waste of space!"

Leslie cursed out loud. She got so mad reading the trash of a husband’s abusive nature. Her entire body shivered in rage.

He manipulated the young and vulnerable female lead!

He forced her to freeze on the balcony one winter night to punish her!

He should suffer the slowest yet most painful death!

"Urgh... just you wait. The female lead will definitely end you. She’ll torture you first, hah!"

Dying quickly would only benefit the scumbag!

He had to receive torments a thousandfold more vicious than what he did to the female lead!

Leslie was so satisfied because the female lead didn’t cower under the trash’s threats again. She was beaten and bruised but, she was not a coward.

All of the torture she endured didn’t extinguish the fiery spirit in her.

Knock! Knock!

"...?!"

The sudden knocking sound shocked Leslie. Stiffly, she turned to look at the door. What, or who she saw surprised her.

Calix was standing at the door, smirking at Leslie. He already closed it, meaning he only knocked earlier to attract her attention.

Did he hear what she said?

All of her curses?

"W-when did you come inside?"

Leslie abruptly closed the book. Her nerves tingled, spreading its sensation to her whole head.

A sneer laced Calix’s lips. Raising one of his brows, he answered, "When you cursed whoever that is not to breed. You even want to castrate him. Who is it? The hero?"

Leslie’s cheeks flushed red. She quickly shook her head, scowling.

"Not the male lead ah. It’s the scumbag husband. The male lead is a good man. He’s not a toxic one."

Leslie’s reply made Calix burst out laughing. Only then did she notice he had something in his hands. It was a file.

Calix realized that Leslie’s attention fell to the royal blue file. Walking away from the door, he approached the seating area. She was lying on the three-seater couch.

Leslie moved up when Calix sat on the coffee table opposite the couch. Raising her brows, she quietly inquired why he came looking for her.

"Edward’s still here so I couldn’t knock on the door like usual," explained Calix even without being asked. He handed the file to Leslie, "He gave me this. The list of the orphans named Calliope, aged five."

"W-what? So soon?"

Leslie flinched. Unable to believe Calix’s words, she quickly took the file. Once she opened it, information about the young girls complete with their photos was bundled together.

Calix pursed his lips, perceiving a worrying vibe from Leslie. He resumed talking.

"So far, these came from the orphanages in this city. I’ve told Edward to expand his search domain. Take your time to look at this. Oh, he also included the ones aged three, four and six just in case you need them."

Without looking at Calix, Leslie murmured, "...thank you. Thank you so much."

Tears pooled in Leslie’s eyes. Her heart was torn as she looked at the little ones’ small faces. All of them looked so innocent without a single taint caused by the harsh world.

Like her Calliope.

Calliope... her precious daughter.

Was she here? Among the others?

Sensing that Leslie wanted to be left alone, Calix stood up from the coffee table.

His dark eyes fell on top of her head before they shifted to her countenance. Her face was slightly obscured by her long black hair.

"If you need anything, just call me."

"En."

Leslie’s reply was so muted as if she barely heard him, already lost in her own world.

Calix was worried to see the change in Leslie’s expression but, he felt like he shouldn’t stay here longer.

Whether it was just a piece of his imagination or not, Calix had a hunch that this matter was a big secret to Leslie.

Having no choice and no other words, Calix spun on his heels, walking out of the lounge. Before he closed the door, he took one last look at Leslie.

She was reading the information thoroughly with a scared look on her countenance.

"...I should check on her again soon."

Was there anything to make her distracted from whatever worrying her now?

As Calix headed back to his work desk, an idea struck his mind. He recalled something that caught Leslie’s interest on her first visit here. She kept raving about it, genuinely amusing him.

Reaching out for the phone, Calix dialed Edward’s number. In two rings, the line was connected.

"Boss Xu, anything?"

Calix immediately gave an order to his chief personal assistant.

"Edward, tell the cafeteria I’ll have lunch there. Make sure my room is ready. Ah, no need to serve me food. I’ll get what I like myself."

"Roger."

With a content smile, Calix hoped Leslie’s search bore fruits.
