Chapter 451: The Chaos in the Courtroom

When the men talked about Nicholas Wu, the ladies in the lounge conversed about Bella. It started when Evelyn brought up the latest development in the teenager’s case against Chase.

At the same time, the little Calliope and Amelia were too immersed in playing dolls. Vernon and Lucille’s firstborn introduced her new plushies to her favorite cousin.

The two dumplings played by themselves while the ladies were engaged in their chatter.

"If only you could see what Bella did to that scum two days ago! Wow~ I never expected a demure girl like her to kick his crotch!"

Evelyn’s words garnered everyone’s attention. Her voice was loud and clear in the lounge.

Leslie, Lucille, Harper and Old Madam Xu wondered what caused such a scene. They grimaced as they unconsciously imagined Chase getting his family jewel hit by Bella.

Chase and Bella attended a court hearing two days ago. Evelyn tagged along after disguising herself. Because Bella was underage, the chamber was off-limits to the public.

A worried Evelyn asked Bella beforehand about testifying without Chase’s presence nearby but, the teenager politely declined the offer. Her resolve led Evelyn to compromise.

Bella entered the courtroom without her mother and younger brother. She persuaded them to wait outside, hoping to spare the horrifying details from reaching them.

Mrs. Yao and Bella’s younger brother had to agree. They sent her off into the courtroom with earnest prayers.

"Did he try to harass that poor girl?" Old Madam Xu guessed, her wrinkly face scrunching up in displeasure, "Didn’t the officer guard him closely?"

"He broke free and jumped over the barricade. He’s still in handcuffs."

Receiving everyone’s full attention, Evelyn described the scene with great detail. Her narration made it seem like Leslie and the others were in the courtroom alongside Bella.

<.Two days ago, at the end of the court hearing.>

Chase, still in handcuffs, was eerily quiet despite the courtroom buzzing at the end of the hearing. His darkened face twisted with poorly restrained anger.

Stiffly looking up, Chase’s eyes zeroed in on Bella. The young lady stood on the other side of the room, still wearing the composure she presented in front of the judge, the prosecutor and every chamber member hours earlier.

Evelyn had just stood up from her seat when a deafening roar blared in the courtroom.

"BITCH! YOU RUINED MY LIFE!"

Kicking the guards nearby, Chase jerked free from them. He broke into a mad dash, jumping over the wooden barricade that kept him away from the rest of the chamber.

"B-Bella!"

Evelyn shouted amid the chaos, shocked to see Bella standing unmoving in front of the crazy Chase. She was still unnervingly calm amidst the panic.

The lawyer tried to grab Bella but, she let go of his hand. The guards rushed to seize Chase. The man pounced toward Bella, raising his fist in a rage. She remained unflinching until...

"ARGH!"

Chase tumbled on the floor like a broken puppet, falling unceremoniously when Bella did something unpredictable. Her action knocked the breath out of everyone, including Evelyn.

In a fluid motion, Bella lunged toward Chase, shrinking their distance further. Dodging his fist, she delivered a perfect kick to his crotch.

The solid impact sent Chase crumpling on the floor. Groaning painfully, his hands quickly clutching his midsection. More curses flew out of his mouth.

"B-bitch! That hurt like hell! Argh!"

The guards grabbed Chase from the floor, ignoring the guttural groans and protests from the man. Bella hadn’t moved from her spot. Curling her lips into a smile, she stared at Chase with satisfaction.

"Oh, does it hurt?" Bella asked mockingly, her tone low, "Too bad."

Spinning on her heels, Bella walked away from Chase. The guards dragged him to the side door of the courtroom. He continued shouting, too enraged to think of his already pitiful position now.

"Bitch! I’ll get you! I will get you!"

Bella paid no attention to Chase anymore. She held her head high as she marched toward the main entrance.

The lawyer followed her closely. Like most of the people here, he was also disturbed by Chase’s mad stunt.

Fortunately, his action—which happened in front of the judge—meant a more hellish fate awaited him.

"Bella! Oh, Bella!"

Waking up from her stupor, Evelyn rushed to the high school girl. She worriedly checked Bella from head to toe, trying to see if Chase managed to injure her.

"Are you okay? Did he hurt you?"

Bella responded to Evelyn’s inquiries with a chuckle. She gently patted the lady’s arms, her face showing no signs of distress from Chase’s behavior.

"I was the one who hurt him," was Bella’s response before winking, her eyes glinting, "Hehe, did you see that, Miss Eve? I’ve been waiting to do that ah."

The playful flickers in Bella’s eyes, including how satisfied she looked, flooded Evelyn’s heart with relief. She nodded, seemingly contented with the situation.

Despite not expecting the teenager to counter-attack Chase, Evelyn wouldn’t ever deny how much of a good job Bella had done.

"Did you learn martial arts?" asked Evelyn as she and Bella walked side-by-side, leaving the courtroom, "Your movements were so agile and precise."

"The grandpa next door taught me when we first moved to that town. He used to teach the kids at the neighborhood dojo before he retired."

Evelyn’s respect for Bella grew more. She admired how resolute the teenager could be once Bella put her mind to something.

Bella might still be a teenager yet, the hardship she went through in life helped her to mature faster than most of her peers.

Evelyn was glad to lend a helping hand in Bella’s journey to better her life and move away from her torturous path.

<.Present time, the Xu family’s ancestral home.>

"Wow~ She’s so great!" remarked Leslie, marveling at Bella’s cool action and her level-headedness.

"She is!" Lucille chimed in, sharing the same sentiment with Leslie, "She’ll be a great figure in the future. I believe so."

Old Madam Xu and Harper said nothing but, the proud look on their faces showed they agreed with Leslie and Lucille. Chuckles bubbled up from Evelyn’s lips, delighted to know her family thought the same as her.

"Hehe, Bella will surely do better. We can use that stupid man’s action against him."

Leslie, Lucille, Harper and Old Madam Xu nodded at the same time. The foolish act of the trashy Chase Yao only sent him closer to his doom rather than helping him escape from it.

"Let’s talk about something else now," Old Madam Xu glanced from the younger ladies before her eyes landed on Harper, "Now that everyone’s here, shouldn’t you bring up the banquet?"

Old Madam Xu’s words had successfully steered their attention away from Bella’s story. Leslie, Lucille and Evelyn stared at Harper and the elderly lady, brimming with curiosity.

Harper laughed in helplessness. She didn’t expect her mother-in-law to change the subject quickly.

"Well, it’ll be your dad and I’s anniversary this coming autumn. We’ll throw a banquet but, we have something to ask Leslie and Calix first."

Confused at why Harper mentioned her name, Leslie arched her brows. Her mother-in-law’s next explanation stunned her.

"We want to know if you and Calix want to introduce our Poppy to the guests."

This... wasn’t this too out of the blue?
