Chapter 418: Everything Had the Traces of Him
A/N: I plan to reduce my updates to 1 Chapter/day in August due to my ongoing wrist and arm pain. I revoke the privilege tiers (exclude the mandatory Tier 1) so no one will mistakenly buy them when the updates are lessened. I’m sorry for the inconvenience :)

Despite the raging turbulence in Leslie’s heart, a sense of ease eventually filtered through the storm. The unforeseen appearance of the comfortable feelings made it bearable to pretend she was genuinely fine.
This was nothing. She had gone through the worst and, she believed the truth of this situation would bring something—most likely a wonderful one—to her in the end.
Gently squeezing Calix’s right hand, Leslie softly asked, "What else happened, Calix? Please, tell me more. Did you... find yourself in that man’s body in each dream?"
She wanted to know more about the uncanny dreams he had been having recently. The feeling intensified once she heard his previous remark.
"...I felt as if I were that man during all those times."
Calix dreamed that his soul was inside another man’s body. And... when he looked into the mirror, he saw Axel’s face.
Wouldn’t this mean...
Leslie’s heart trembled. She wasn’t entirely sure what to make of this situation.
Should she be happy?
Or, should she be devastated?
Leslie didn’t know the exact answer yet. She was simply pleased that her composure didn’t shatter at this important time.
Calix’s face turned slightly grim, traces of concern marring his countenance. Nodding once, he replied, "Yes. Somehow, I became that man in every dream. Never a bystander watching their lives."
Taking a momentary pause, Calix glanced at the coffee table. He quietly said, "That woman was his lover. I think they’re not married yet. Their relationship was good."
They would marry if that man didn’t meet his demise by falling from the cliff as he tried to save his friend.
Calix let those words remain in his thoughts, not daring to voice them out. He didn’t know his previous remarks suspended Leslie’s heart for a moment.
His voice was exceptionally tender when he brought up the couple’s loving relationship. The hint of sullenness on his face was faded by a faint glow.
Her eyelashes fluttering, Leslie briefly darted his eyes from Calix’s face to the table – to the face sketches of the old her and Axel.
"...what else? What else did you dream?"
"I dreamed..."
Sitting while facing each other on the couch, Calix resumed telling Leslie of every dream he had. She didn’t interfere this time, letting his voice resonate in the quiet home office.
Occasionally, Calix paused, seemingly trying to find suitable words between his story. His countenance still had a hint of worry but, there was nothing that alarmed Leslie.
Instead of being disturbed, hearing all those dreams reminded her of the mundane yet fulfilling life she lived with her first lover in a distant lifetime.
Buying groceries together with him.
Having cooking competitions with him.
Holding hands while strolling in a park with him.
Everything had traces of him.
The time had already changed to another hour but, neither Leslie nor Calix realized. The man eventually let out a sigh of relief after more than an hour had passed.
"...that was my latest dream. About them talking about marrying and having a child."
Calix had just finished telling Leslie about all of those dreams – aside from the one he died falling from the cliff[01]. He didn’t have the heart to tell her about his death even though it didn’t happen in reality.
"They talked about marriage and... having a child?"
"Yes. It seemed like they wanted to wait until she graduated from the uni."
"Oh..."
Leslie smiled. Somehow, those words helped to further cheer her up instead of making her sad.
Seeing the interest on Leslie’s face brought a slight smile to Calix’s lips. His gaze drifted to their interlinking hands before his eyes found their way back to hers.
Thankfully, she didn’t look unsettled despite the bizarreness of his tale tonight.
"Leslie, I haven’t really told you about what I felt when dreaming, en?"
Calix’s question earned a nod from Leslie. He indeed hadn’t verbally expressed anything to her about his feelings toward those dreams.
"I won’t deny I felt uneasy but, I also felt some kind of familiarity and peace in them."
Blinking, Leslie unconsciously repeated Calix’s words, "...familiarity and peace?"
"Yes," Calix softened his smile. Leaning closer to Leslie, he peered into her eyes, "Weird, isn’t it? Hehe, shouldn’t I feel more spooked up? What do you think?"
Leslie was unsure how to think about this disclosure. Incredulity still brimmed in her heart but, a part of it was alleviated by relief.
He wasn’t entirely bothered by the strange dreams he had been having.
He even conveyed he was at ease with them.
Pressing her right thumb in the middle of Calix’s left hand, Leslie truthfully said, "Yes, most people would be bothered by those kinds of dreams. But, isn’t it better for you to feel at ease?"
"Hehe, I thought so."
Following those simple words, a chuckle slipped out between Calix’s lips. He liked the moment Leslie suddenly squeezed the center of his palm.
"It’s getting late now but, I haven’t finished talking," said Calix after glancing at the wall clock. His eyes returned to Leslie, "Are you sleepy already? I don’t want to keep you up late."
Leslie also looked at the clock. The needles pointed to ten-fifteen in the evening. It was still early.
Despite wanting to hear more from Calix, Leslie still remembered the man’s flight the next morning. He needed to get ready as early as five in the morning.
But...
She didn’t want him to stop now. It was her selfish desire.
"...can you continue, Calix?" Leslie asked timidly, her voice half-pleading.
"Okay."
Calix was inwardly relieved to hear Leslie was still eager to hear the rest. He wished to let everything out of his mind as he wondered how she would react in the end.
Taking in a deep breath, Calix slowly enunciated, "The dreams themselves didn’t really shock me but, the several coincidences were. Also, the only way for me to have them."
Leslie blinked, "What? Coincidences? What about the way to get them?"
"I noticed I’ll definitely experience them if this thing happens," Calix tilted his head slightly, his eyes never Leslie’s, "I tested a few theories before I’m sure about it. There’s only one way."
"...what is it?"
Under Leslie’s surprised gaze, Calix spilled his other secret related to this issue.
"Whenever I sleep with you and our Poppy, I’ll dream of the couple."
