Chapter 413: To Tell, or To Delay?

Unfortunately, Old Madam Li and her small entourage were denied entry by the Xu family’s guard. They were quickly kicked out of Phoenix Heights as soon as they arrived.

Old Madam Li tried to make a fuss but, the head guard relayed Old Madam Xu’s words to the enraged old woman.

"If you dare to take another step inside, your family’s scandal will be all over the media."

Knowing how persistent Old Madam Xu could be, Old Madam Li had to retreat in shame. She couldn’t afford to defy the former yet. The Xu family held the advantage in this conflict.

The news reached Graceville Manor that night. Calix and Leslie shared some good laughter once they heard about Old Madam Li’s shameless and futile attempts from Old Madam Xu herself.

"Just sit back and enjoy the show, okay? Hah! I won’t let any of them mess with my family ah!"

Old Madam Xu’s reassurance helped to ease Leslie and Calix’s concerns, especially the young lady. Leslie was relieved to know she and Calliope had solid backing from her in-laws.

Another week began after hours passed.

Calix went to work earlier than usual on Monday morning. He had several important meetings to attend before his departure to Switzerland tomorrow.

Fortunately, Calix’s capable chief assistant Edward had returned from his two weeks of summer getaway. The younger man could hold the fort when he was away.

Edward came back with a certain glow on his face. He continued smiling as he narrated his road trip with his beloved dog for the past two weeks.

The staff of the secretarial department encouraged Edward to take more vacations. They liked the milder temperament the young man showed them compared to his usual sternness.

But, the glow faded a little when Edward came to discuss several issues with Calix in the CEO’s office.

"Urgh... I already miss the mountains ah. The peace. The greenery."

Calix scoffed once he heard Edward openly sighing in front of him. He was analyzing the files on his work desk. The younger man was standing opposite the table.

"Why? Are you thinking of being a mountain dweller?" asked Calix without looking up from the file. He scribbled the space that required his signature, "You’ll just be a bear’s emergency ration ah."

"Tsk. You’re not being supportive, Boss."

Clicking his tongue, Edward refrained from letting out another long and loud sigh. He convinced himself that he should just be happy that his annoying boss would leave the country for a few days starting tomorrow.

But...

Edward quickly recalled the stunt Calix pulled on the Li family last Friday.

"Boss Xu, doesn’t this mean I have to deal with your pesky in-laws?"

"Former in-laws," Calix pronounced those words with a hint of jest. He finally looked up from the file to Edward. A grin was drawn on his lips, "Mr. Wei and his team will do everything but, yeah. You might get implicated too."

Edward groaned. Knowing how irritable the Li family could be broke his newly rejuvenated spirits after such a nice travel.

"...Boss Xu, I want another break."

"Cut your crap."

Edward left the CEO’s office with tears in his heart, resigning to his fate. As the chief assistant, he would undoubtedly be involved in this mess as well.

Huh! He would demand compensation later!

Calix resumed working with a little break in between. He hoped to finish as much as he could before going home later this evening. His main focus after work hours ended was to spend time with both Leslie and Calliope.

Thankfully, the business trip only took four days. He would return in no time. It would be even better if he could shorten the trip.

"Haa... I’m done."

Around six-thirty, Calix finally emerged from the office, clad in his powder blue suit. He finished later than expected, much to his dismay.

A few staff were still sitting behind their work desks. Some of them talked about which food to order for delivery later, signaling they were planning to do overtime.

"Good work, everyone. Just go home ah."

Calix greeted his employees as he walked down the hallway. A few people poked their heads out from behind the screen monitor while the others stood up.

"Our work hasn’t finished yet."

"See you again, CEO Xu."

"Have a safe trip tomorrow, Boss."

Calix simply nodded at them before quickening his pace. Logan was already waiting in the basement. The former didn’t drive by himself like usual today.

"Tired, Boss?"

Logan briefly looked at Calix through the rearview mirror. His boss was leaning comfortably against the cushion with his eyes closed. The man seemed exhausted despite not showing much on his face.

"A little," replied Calix shortly. He kept his eyelids close.

Grinning, Logan tapped on the dashboard screen, "Time for relaxing songs. Symphony? Lo-fi?"

Calix uttered, "Lo-fi."

"Yes, Boss!"

The melody softly echoed within the car as Logan continued driving. Calix was still sitting in silence. Despite appearing as if he was resting, his mind was actually full of thoughts.

’I keep thinking of them.’

Even without much effort, Calix was always reminded of the recent dreams he had been having[01]. Especially the coincidences he realized as of late.

At the same time, Calix had a strong desire to show Leslie the face sketches, also opening up about those uncanny dreams.

Calix didn’t know why the thought kept being hammered into his mind but, it was harder to defy the idea.

Should he do it tonight? But, he would leave for Switzerland tomorrow morning. They wouldn’t meet again until the end of this week.

’Won’t I just trouble her?’

For some unknown reason, Calix didn’t think it was a good idea to tell Leslie about his uncanny dreams hours before he went abroad.

’What should I do?’

Slowly lifting his eyelids, a hint of uneasiness gleamed bleakly in Calix’s eyes. His heart and mind had opposing views.

To tell or, to delay?

Whether it was a stroke of luck or misfortune, Calix was eventually forced to reveal his secrets to Leslie tonight.
