Chapter 382: A Romantic Date with Her Husband
Despite not knowing the details of Calix’s surprise dinner plan, Leslie genuinely looked forward to it. She put more effort into dressing up after having a good and long soak in the tub.
Calix told Leslie they should head out at seven. There was another half an hour before the promised time.
"The purple dress complements you well, Mrs. Xu," said Mrs. Su while doing Leslie’s hair. After a brief pause, she happily added, "You and Mr. Xu will have a great time tonight."
"Hehe, thank you, Mrs. Su..."
Blushing from the private nurse’s compliment, Leslie looked into the vanity mirror. She chose a one-piece lilac chiffon dress for tonight’s occasion, paired with a white belt around her waist.
The butterfly sleeves fell from Leslie’s shoulders to her elbows. If she stood up, the hem would hang just below her knees. To prevent herself from falling if she tried to walk, she opted for a pair of white ballerina flats.
Mrs. Su pleated Leslie’s long silky hair with a white satin ribbon into a single braid. She also inserted small white pearl hair clips on the right side of the latter’s head.
"All done! Time for your romantic date with your husband!"
Mrs. Su exclaimed once she put on the last pearl hairpin. Her words deepened the shade of blush on Leslie’s cheeks.
"Do I really look okay? Haha... I’m kinda nervous," Leslie chuckled in helplessness. She peered into her reflection, trying to see if the makeup fit her or not, "Should I apply more lipstick?"
"You’re so gorgeous, Mrs. Xu," Mrs. Su gently patted Leslie’s shoulders from the back. Her smile expressed her own joy, "Go and enjoy tonight. Hehe, I think Mr. Xu prepares more surprises aside from dinner."
"He might. I wonder what..."
"Wow~ Mama! So pretty!"
Calliope’s voice abruptly cut Leslie off without any warning. The little one suddenly appeared in the walk-in wardrobe along with the toy Mimo.
"Poppy, my darling..."
Turning her head, Leslie drifted her gaze from the mirror to Calliope. The dumpling deng deng deng came approaching her.
"Mama’s darling looks so happy ah..." Leslie playfully tapped a finger on the tip of Calliope’s nose, "Will you be okay staying at home with... your Granny Wendy?"
Calliope didn’t show any sadness when Calix said she couldn’t follow them tonight. Leslie tried asking what he bribed their daughter with but, he emphasized it was another secret.
"Poppy is okay~ Hehe, Poppy will be a good girl and wait for Mama and Papa."
Giggles bubbling up her little mouth, Calliope stared at Leslie with sincere admiration in her round eyes.
"Mama~ You’re pretty like a fairy! Hehe~ Purple dress so pretty~"
Leslie burst into laughter as Calliope continued showering her with praises. Placing a palm on her daughter’s small head, she gently stroked through the little one’s hair.
Her chubby cheeks blushing, Calliope giggled. She lay one side of her head on Leslie’s lap, enjoying her mother’s gentle touch.
"Hehe, are you a cat now?" asked Leslie teasingly. She couldn’t help from thinking her daughter was the most adorable child in the world.
"Hehehe~ Poppy is not a cat ah."
Soft laughter continued flowing out from Calliope’s mouth. She spent a few minutes being pampered by her mother before she reluctantly took a step back.
"Mama~ Let’s go to Papa now. Papa waits for Mama downstairs."
"Oh, you’re here to escort me to your papa?" Leslie raised her brows. She initially thought Calliope came just to see her getting ready.
"Hehehe~ Yes~ Come! Come!"
Leslie looked at herself in the mirror for one last time. After reassuring herself that she appeared well enough for dinner, she grabbed a white handbag storing her phone and other stuff.
"Poppy, step aside for a bit..."
Leslie told Calliope before reversing her wheelchair from the vanity table. The little one obediently abid to her words.
"Let me push you, Mrs. Xu," Mrs. Su grasped the wheelchair handles, preparing to move Leslie out of the walk-in wardrobe and subsequently the bedroom.
"Thank you, Mrs. Su..."
As her heart pounded in excitement and anticipation, Leslie quietly let Mrs. Su push her wheelchair. Calliope followed them closely from one side as they headed to the home elevator.
The last rays of sunlight cast the streaks of ruby, amber and violet on the sky. Glancing out of the windows, Leslie wondered where would Calix bring her.
The husband and wife rarely went out after having Calliope. Calix took them out for a short night drive thrice as he was swamped with a mountain of work, especially during Edward’s absence.
"Oh~ Papa!"
Calliope’s exclamation brought Leslie back to reality. She didn’t realize they had reached the first floor. Looking straight ahead of her, Leslie’s eyes widened at the sight of the man standing at the entryway.
"I thought you’re still getting ready," Calix chuckled. His eyes were imbued with fondness as he returned Leslie’s gaze to him.
Blinking, Leslie had no words to say. She silently took in Calix’s appearance. For some reason, she felt as if her heart was trembling.
The man opted for a two-piece beige suit with a round collar shirt in the color powder blue. He let the left side of his bangs fall over his forehead while leaving the right side slicked back.
Calix slowly approached Leslie as Mrs. Su continued pushing the wheelchair. With a lopsided grin, he extended his right hand to her while placing the left one on his back.
"You look stunning in that dress. Are you ready for our dinner?"
Pulling herself out of her trance, Leslie teasingly responded to Calix while reaching out for his palm, "Do you mean I only look stunning now?"
"No. You’re always beautiful."
Leslie slowly blinked. Calix’s smooth reply and his charming smile inevitably caught her in another trance.
’I think I know what he wanna do tonight.’
Pursing her lips, Leslie placed her hand on Calix’s outstretched palm. She shivered the moment their skins touched before he gently enveloped his hand into hers.
As if his warmth seeped under her skin and traveled to her heart, a soft smile hanging on her lips.
