Chapter 368: Didn’t You Want to Reconcile With Us?

Not knowing what was going on in Rowan’s mind, Leslie quietly listened to Bianca.

The middle-aged lady’s pitifully sounding words did nothing to melt her frosty countenance. At the same time, her heart was blazing with fury.

The clash of ice and fire made Leslie terribly uncomfortable but, she still wanted to face both Rowan and Bianca today. After all, they were the ones who came presenting themselves first.

Whether Rowan and Bianca would admit to their wrongdoings or not, Leslie planned to bring up what happened six years ago.

"Charlene, your mother’s right."

Rowan’s exhausted voice probed into Leslie’s thoughts. She darted her eyes from Bianca to the older man. Calix also did the same as he sat in leisure next to Leslie.

Rowan tensed at the sight of Leslie’s icy stare and Calix’s pressuring gaze. His gut twisted in distress.

This unpleasant feeling was worse than facing his grouchy old mother and contemptuous younger brother.

Still, Rowan forced himself to speak more instead of waiting for any verbal response from his daughter and son-in-law. He didn’t want to waste this chance of talking to them.

Cold sweat broke on his back as if he was exposed to icy frigid wind.

"You said you were busy last month but, we hope to see you, Charlene. Now that the festival is near, how about celebrating it together? Only with us!"

Rowan’s meaning was clear. He, Bianca and Irene planned to hold a small celebration for the Dragon Boat Festival among themselves instead of joining the Li family as usual.

Old Madam Li was enraged once she heard Rowan’s new arrangement yet, he didn’t care. He was adamant with his choice.

Having a private celebration with his wife and daughters was hundreds of times better than being with his judgmental mother, younger brother and their relatives.

Bianca’s eyes lit up once Rowan mentioned celebrating the festival together. With a voice full of hope, she said, "Charlene, isn’t this a good time to see our new home? We’ve decorated a room for you and Calix. You two can stay there whenever you come for a visit."

Bianca, Rowan and Irene had lived in their new home at Sunnyside Ridge for over one month[01]. She never missed the days she spent at the Li family’s ancestral home.

Escaping from her overbearing mother-in-law and looks of ridicule from others was her best decision!

"Yes, yes. You two should come and stay the night," Rowan repeatedly nodded, expressing his anticipation, "Don’t worry about your grandmother and uncle’s family, Charlene. They won’t bother you again."

Only Rowan and Bianca spoke throughout the time. As they described their new home, happiness tinged in their voices. Getting away from Old Madam Li and Geoffrey helped to boost their shattered confidence.

But...

Unfortunately, Leslie didn’t feel the same.

"I refuse."

Stunned by those two short words, Rowan and Bianca stuttered before closing their mouths. Blinking, they stared at Leslie in a daze. The lady’s expression remained icy cold.

"W-what? What did you say, Charlene?" Bianca’s blank look changed into disbelief. Despite being flustered, she didn’t let herself feel discouraged by Leslie’s indifferent gaze, "You... refused?"

Under Rowan and Bianca’s baffled eyes, Leslie firmly repeated, "Yes, I refuse."

Leslie inwardly thought she had given Rowan and Bianca enough time to speak already. Now it was her turn. She didn’t want to prolong the time she spent here.

Irene was still hiding outside the lounge while Calliope was supposed to play with Aunt Wendy and Mrs. Su. The little one might look for her and Calix if they didn’t reappear soon.

Locking her sharpened eyes on the husband and wife, Leslie said, "I’ve decided. I don’t want to reconcile... with you or any of the Li family members... Only Irene’s excluded..."

Leslie’s next words further added to Rowan and Bianca’s confusion. None of them expected she would say something like that.

"W-wait, Charlene... You... You don’t really mean that, don’t you?"

Rowan shook his head, trying to regain his composure. Leslie’s shocking statement cracked into his composure. With her words replayed in his mind, he felt as if huge dark clouds loomed over him.

"I mean that... Don’t bother to care about me anymore..."

Once again Leslie’s voice rang in the stifling air, draining more colors from Rowan and Bianca’s faces.

Leslie didn’t feel bad at all seeing how ashen Rowan and Bianca looked. They deserved no pity.

Clasping her hands together, she slowly shifted her eyes from the middle-aged man to his wife. More words flowed out of her mouth.

"Aside from Irene, I don’t want you or anyone else... to disturb my life anymore..."

Rowan and Bianca stiffly looked at each other before they returned their eyes to Leslie. Calix didn’t seem surprised by the lady’s words as if he was already prepared for this.

What was this?

What did... their daughter has just told them?

"Charlene, why? Why do you suddenly..." Rowan stuttered, finding no better words to speak his mind. Driven by his concern, he asked, "Didn’t you want to reconcile with us? That’s why you told us to be in contact with you! And to visit you here!"

"Y-yes!" Bianca’s tone raised one octave following her anxiousness. Her heart pounded quickly, "Please tell us why, Charlene. If... if we wronged you again. Don’t just cut us off like this, please!"

Neither Rowan nor Bianca anticipated hearing such a thing from Leslie. They initially thought she was just pranking them.

But, the apathetic look in the young lady’s eyes told them she was not playing a harmless trick.

"I momentarily forgot how badly you had... treated me before..."

"C-Charlene... you mom and dad knew... we admitted what..."

Raising one hand, Leslie interrupted Bianca, "Silence."

Bianca clammed her mouth shut. Rowan’s lips trembled yet, he didn’t dare to say anything.

Leslie was not unfazed in front of Rowan and Bianca’s pleading looks. Without everting her eyes from them, she said loud and clear.

"Do you remember how you abandoned me when I was... pregnant and helpless six years ago?"

Rowan and Bianca froze. The memories of the old jolted them out of their shock.

Six... years ago?
