Chapter 364: One More Thing Was Left on Her List

The eruption of laughter coming from one side of the lake attracted Leslie’s interest. Turning her head in the direction, she saw Calliope and Irene playing together by the bank.

"Aaa! Look!"

"Hehe, that one is cute ah."

Crouching side by side, the child and the high school girl had fun building a tower of pebbles. They started from the biggest rock as the following ones gradually shrank in size.

Leslie couldn’t help but think how picture-perfect the sight of Calliope and Irene was. As the sunlight filtered through the rustling leaves of the nearby tree, it cast swaying shadows on them.

"You look relieved."

The familiar mellow voice melted her lips into a smile.

"Hehe, I am..."

Tearing her gaze away from Calliope and Irene, Leslie smiled at Calix. Her eyes met his, looking at the man who sat right next to her.

"I indeed feel relieved..."

Leslie’s reiteration prompted Calix to chuckle.

Irene took quite some time to calm down after her crying feat. She asked Leslie to meet Calliope. She hoped to interact more with the niece she had never known she had.

"I won’t tell Mom and Dad about Poppy... until you do it yourself."

Leslie thanked Irene for her understanding. The latter would be included during the meeting later. But, changes were still bound to happen.

Leslie brought Irene to the kitchen. As expected, Calliope acted as a little assistant to Calix as he prepared the dishes for their picnic.

Well, her role was more like a supervisor and a taster. Her little mouth was smeared with oil from the fried chicken.

"Little Auntie, join our picnic, please~ Come, come!"

The easygoing Calliope quickly invited Irene to join their picnic this noon. Without a second thought, the high school girl swiftly agreed to the little one’s invitation.

Calix prepared several dishes for all of them.

Aside from the crispy fried chicken that led Leslie to throw a pillow at him last night, Calix also made egg-mayo sandwiches, egg fried rice, carrot and cucumber salad, and marinated beef skewers.

Aunt Wendy included some desserts. She made mango strawberry puddings yesterday, a favorite of both Calix and Calliope.

Watermelon juice and cool mineral water were a great addition to combat the summer heat.

Irene and Calliope had eaten some of the food before they went to play. Calix and Leslie remained sitting in the pavilion on the deck.

Leaning his back against the plush chair, Calix crossed his hands to support the back of his head. He snickered, "You’ve just crossed another thing off your list about our daughter."

Leslie let out a chuckle as she understood what Calix meant by that. Slowly bringing her feet up from the floor, she curled in her chair. Her braided long hair was draped on her left shoulder.

"You’re right. I still have one more..."

Finding Calliope’s whereabouts? Checked.

Telling the Xu family about Calliope? Checked.

Reuniting successfully with Calliope? Checked.

Introducing Calliope to Irene? Checked.

The only thing that was left was...

Formally cutting ties with the Li family.

No matter what, the Li family would learn about Calliope’s existence. As told by Calix last night, they planned to meet Rowan and Bianca after the Dragon Boat Festival to announce their major decision.

Most likely, they would include the entire main branch of the Li family.

Tilting his head, Calix stared at Leslie. She was smilingly watching Calliope and Irene by the lake bank. The lingering tension from this morning vanished, being replaced with a sense of tranquility.

"Don’t think about them. Let’s focus on celebrating the Dragon Boat Festival with Poppy."

"Hehe, okay~"

The festival would arrive within five days. Leslie and Calix hoped the three-day celebration would bring new joyous memories to Calliope.

"Oh, didn’t you arrange for the kids... to watch a dragon boat race?"

Bringing her eyes to Calix, Leslie recalled the man’s plan regarding the children at the orphanage. He mentioned it once to her before.

Calix curled up his lips. Raising one of his brows, he said, "They’ll have a three-day stay at a hotel. I’ve booked the entire floor for them."

During one of Calliope’s phone calls with Director Li, the little one mentioned she would visit her great-grandmother’s house during the festivity period. Thinking of the children, Calix asked what they planned to do.

"We’ll celebrate it at home like always. The children are excited. They want to make the sticky rice dumplings together."

After several questions and answers back and forth, Calix learned that the children never went anywhere during the Dragon Boat Festival.

They wanted to join the festivity and watch the dragon boat race but, it was difficult to transport everyone. It was a pity because there was a famous spot at a beach around forty minutes away from the orphanage.

Calix’s assistance in making the children happy sounded so appealing to Leslie but, she wondered how Director Li and the staff would be able to take care of all of the children.

"They have around thirty children, right? Can they... look after everyone?"

With hundreds to thousands of tourists enjoying the festival at the beach, the children’s safety was the topmost priority.

"They can handle it. Don’t worry ah," Calix chuckled. He picked one of the pudding cups. After scooping some, he brought the spoon to Leslie’s lips, "Why don’t you eat this?"

"Oh..."

Leslie quietly took a bite of the fruit pudding. Her eyes didn’t stray away from Calix as she watched him eating the pudding.

’Well, he might prepare more than the children’s transport and accommodation.’

Leslie remembered the few instances Calix deliberately hid his good deeds. To guess he prepared additional staff or even guards for the children was not far-fetching.

"Here, one more."

"..."

Leslie glanced at Calix before once again she ate the pudding. Chuckles escaped the man’s lips as if something amused him.

"What?"

"Hehe, nothing."

Leslie and Calix continued enjoying the same cup of pudding while Calliope and Irene successfully created their tower of pebbles.
