Chapter 352: Crying Alone Is Not Fun
"Mama, Little Aunt cry."
"...huh?"
Stunned by what Calliope had just said, Leslie stared blankly at her daughter. She remained quiet for a few seconds before her senses returned, pulling her out of her trance.
The mother and daughter were in the home library. They just had lunch together around two hours ago. Evelyn also joined them while Calix was absent because of work.
Leslie was reading a book when Calliope suddenly appeared. Her daughter was going on her daily adventure inside this huge mansion. It was something the little dumpling loved to do.
"Poppy, what did you say? You saw or heard... your aunt crying?" Leslie unintentionally lowered her voice. She placed both hands on Calliope’s shoulders, "Where? In her room?"
Nodding, Calliope’s eyes expressed her worry, "Mama, why Little Aunt cry? Poppy see Little Aunt cry in her room. She hide under the blanket ah."
"...now? Poppy, did you see your aunt... just now?"
Calliope nodded again. She had just returned from the third floor where Evelyn’s guest room was. Half of the floor was dedicated to the rooftop pool area, one of the little one’s favorite places in this manor.
Calix instructed the glass door to be locked at all times to prevent Calliope from falling into the pool during her adventure. Aside from the little dumpling, everyone knew the passcode for the automated keypad.
Calliope understood she couldn’t enter the pool area without an adult accompanying her. She simply looked from the outside of the glass wall, admiring the beauty of the rooftop pool.
Remembering her little aunt who stayed on the third floor, Calliope hurried to Evelyn’s guest room. She slipped inside only to see the latter curling under the blanket on the bed.
The agonizing echo of Evelyn’s cries shocked Calliope, leading her to go and find Leslie.
"Mama, Little Aunt is sad?" asked Calliope again, her tone sounding more concerned about Evelyn.
"It’s okay, Poppy. Your aunt will be okay..." Leslie pulled Calliope close to her, enveloping the little one in a hug, "Mama will go and see her... Thank you for telling Mama..."
Calliope returned Leslie’s embrace. Her small palms grasped the back of her mother’s dress. The way her hands tightened expressed how upset she was to know her aunt was crying alone.
"Poppy don’t want Little Aunt cry ah..." Calliope mumbled, "It’s not fun."
Leslie smiled faintly, trying not to appear too anxious in front of Calliope. Moving backward slightly, she tapped her daughter’s nose.
"Sometimes crying will make you feel better... Mama will see Little Aunt later... Poppy, aren’t you sleep? Wanna take a nap... with Mama?"
"En... Poppy sleepy..."
As if on cue, Calliope let out a yawn. She was so full from lunch earlier. Coupled with her little adventure, drowsiness started to kick in.
Helplessness imbued in Leslie’s smile. After caressing Calliope’s head, she brought the little dumpling into her arms again, "Let’s go to your room... Mama will wait until Poppy sleeps, okay?"
"Hehe, okay~"
Leslie and Calliope left the home library, heading to the little dumpling’s room. The former tried to keep her thoughts regarding Evelyn at bay, but it was hard.
Evelyn had stayed in Graceville Manor for three days. The young lady either spent her time playing with Calliope or locking herself in the room.
Both Leslie and Calix were aware of the chances Evelyn would drown in her sorrow. They caught her arguing with the cheating trash on the phone several times.
Even though Calix and Leslie wanted to tell Evelyn to stop being in contact with Chase, they still tried to be supportive without disregarding the latter’s way of thinking and doing things.
Yet...
For how long?
"Sleep, my darling..."
"...en."
Leslie lay on the bed with Calliope, gently patting the little one as she succumbed to her drowsiness. Thankfully, Calliope didn’t take long to fall asleep.
After adjusting the blanket covering Calliope, Leslie made sure Mimo and the giant strawberry toy accompanied the little one on both sides.
’Look after Poppy en, Mimo?’
|Okay! No worry ah, Leslie|
Leslie chuckled seeing the familiar glint in Mimo’s beady eyes. The crochet fox toy rarely left its physical body but, luckily they could still communicate telepathically.
Standing on her feet, Leslie carefully sat in the wheelchair. No traces of wounds were left on her previously injured calf. She only still felt a little strain here and there.
’Should I tell Calix?’
Leslie looked at the screen of her phone after wheeling herself out of the home elevator. She had just reached the third floor. Her eyes wandered to where Evelyn’s room was.
’Will Eve get mad at me? Should I let her be for now and wait until Calix returns?’
Leslie and Evelyn treated each other comfortably in these three days of living together. The latter even went to the extra length to help Leslie when she was sore all over from her rehab session.
Leslie could tell Evelyn was warming up to her. The popular superstar also easily shared her stories of being an actress when the former asked.
’Crying alone is painful, but... what if I’m just bothering her?’
Unable to think of something better, Leslie kept darting her eyes from the phone screen to the closed door. She wondered whether to inform Calix and let him handle it or step into it herself.
’How about...’
A thought crossed Leslie’s mind, reminding her of one particular online article that caught her interest the other day. She remembered how amusing the writing was.
’History... It should be in my history...’
Opening the web browser, Leslie scrolled the History tab. She couldn’t help but feel the article resonated with Evelyn’s situation so much. The latter also might get a good laugh out of it.
’This one!’
Leslie copied the link to the article before opening the messaging app. She already had Evelyn’s number saved. After sending a short message, the link followed.
[Leslie: Eve, have you heard of the herpes of the craft world?]
[Leslie: https://shorturl.at/mS3vt]
Pursing her lips, Leslie wondered what Evelyn would think of her weird messages.
