Chapter 291: CEO Xu’s Dilemma Before the Vanity Mirror

Leslie and Calix had a fun time at the lake with Calliope after dinner. The little one didn’t go jumping here and there like in the evening, claiming she didn’t want to get her cute pajamas dirty.

"The lights are so pretty~ Like tiny pixies!"

Calliope especially loved the pavilions on the deck. She couldn’t stop admiring the way the fairy lights casting their warm glow on the surrounding.

After being there for over half an hour, the family of three returned to the manor. Leslie and Calix showed Calliope her room right across the hallway, facing the former’s bedroom.

Despite it being literally empty, Calliope’s excitement overflowed once again. She ran around the room, going from one end to the other and even looking out of the windows.

"Wow! Poppy can see the lake!"

"Poppy can pick the paint color? Really?"

"Hehehe~ A princess room! Can Poppy have a princess room?"

Calix and Leslie were delighted to see the look of pure happiness on Calliope’s small face. Their little munchkin already seemed to imagine what kind of bedroom this place would turn to soon.

"You can see the examples... before we go to bed tonight, Poppy..." suggested Leslie, her countenance softening further at the sight of Calliope’s brightened appearance, "Wanna do that?"

"Poppy want!" replied Calliope quickly, unable to hold her excitement back, "Mama, let’s go and see now~"

A princess room in the pink color!

A princess bed!

And lots of toys ah!

As Calliope was immersed in her imagination, Calix chimed in, "Papa gonna take a shower. You and Mama can look at the books first."

"Oh, okay~"

Calix pushed Leslie’s wheelchair out of the empty room, followed by a singing Calliope.

Mrs. Bai was waiting at the second-floor lounge nearby. She has been given a room for herself, the one that was usually used by Mrs. An and Mrs. Su during their shifts.

After getting Leslie and Calliope on the three-seater couch in the bedroom, Calix placed several home deco catalogs on the coffee table. All of them focused on children’s and teenagers’ room makeovers.

"Eh? Where Papa’s going?"

Calliope’s question halted Calix’s steps from walking out of the bedroom. Turning to look at the couch, he saw a look of puzzlement on the little girl’s face.

"To my room ah. To shower," replied Calix without thinking much but, his answer seemed to confuse Calliope further.

Blinking, Calliope stared from Calix to Leslie. Puzzlement swirled in her expressive round eyes. Her next questions caught the man off guard.

"Papa’s room? Not here with Mama?"

"..."

"Pfft!"

Covering her mouth, Leslie tried to hold back from laughing. She glanced at Calix to Calliope, thinking the little one’s impromptu curiosity was adorable and funny.

"Papa sleeps in another room..." responded Leslie with a smile as she stroked Calliope’s small head. She swiftly came up with an excuse, "Mama is sick, right? So Mama... wants a room to myself..."

"Oh~ Ah, then Poppy doesn’t want to disturb Mama ah. Mama wanna sleep alone, en?"

Amused, Leslie gently pinched Calliope’s face. She didn’t think the little one would take her words in that direction.

"Now Mama has a cute daughter... like Poppy, Mama wanna... sleep together, hehe. Is that... okay?"

"Yes! Ah... can Papa join us tonight?"

Tilting her head, Calliope wondered if she should forget her wish to sleep together with her mama and papa. She didn’t want to bother her sick mama.

"Haha... yes, your papa can join... He’s good at sleeping... like a statue..."

Leslie threw a meaningful look at Calix, earning an awkward cough from him in return. She was too tempted to tease him further but, the man might go red in embarrassment.

Hehe, cute.

"Poppy will sleep well too! Won’t disturb Mama sleeping!"

The excited Calliope understood nothing of the small nonverbal interaction between Leslie and Calix. Raising both hands, she declared her vow.

"Aww~ Poppy is good... Here, Mama will pat you..."

"Hehehe~"

Nestling in Leslie’s embrace, Calliope happily enjoyed her mother stroking her small head. She had completely forgotten about her father standing at the door.

Calix exhaled a sigh. Catching Leslie’s eyes, he gestured to the outside, signaling he would step away for a moment. She simply nodded once before returning her focus to Calliope.

As soon as Calix got into his bedroom, he rushed to the washroom. After discarding the clothes tainted by his cooking smell and sweat, he stepped under the shower.

’Haha... I will indeed be a statue again tonight ah. It’s okay, it’s fine. Poppy’s with us.’

Patting the space above his heart, Calix reassured himself. His fingers grazed the thick and jagged scar across his broad chest.

Calix didn’t take a long shower. Stepping out of the washroom with a towel around his waist, he headed straight to the walk-in wardrobe.

The remaining beads of water trickled down from his temple, sliding further down to his neck. He wasted no time looking for any nightwear in the color yellow.

"Is it this one? I think the shade is closer to that one ah. Or, this?"

After battling with himself, Calix finally picked a pair of pastel yellow pajamas. The fabric was cool to the touch, perfect for a summer night.

"This scent is mild, I think? Or, will she or Poppy dislike it? Should I choose another scent?"

CEO Xu had difficulties deciding on his perfumed lotion. He usually wore it alongside his skincare before heading to bed. He grabbed from one to the other, weighing down everything in his mind.

"Haha... let’s play it safe. I’ll just wear this one."

Calix’s dilemma didn’t end there. Standing opposite the huge vanity mirror, he couldn’t decide whether to keep his bangs up or let them be messy.

"Slicked back? Side-swept? Just... let my bangs cover my forehead?"

Confused with himself, Calix ran his fingers through his fringes. He looked good even with a buzzcut ah, couldn’t Leslie see it?

Cough.

In the end, Calix simply let his bangs down. He didn’t want to risk Leslie openly asking if there was something wrong with his head if he appeared in not his usual style at home.

Haha... He felt crazy ah.

Calix stared back at his reflection in the mirror. His smile looked so awkward right now.
