Chapter 175: Charlene’s Family Move

Leslie didn’t think much about Calix’s uncanny question that morning. Doing so would just exhaust herself.

Aside from having night strolls when Calix was free, they also went for a night drive and boating. He even brought her to the deck once the construction was finished.

"Let’s have dinner here someday as we did back in Rome."

Calix’s suggestion reminded Leslie of her happy days touring Rome. She quickly agreed.

Leslie spent the rest of the week dedicating her time to improving her inner and physical health. Dr. Mo, Ms. Chen and Ms. Yao’s praises lifted her mood.

Leslie’s motivation to get better as soon as possible was heightened because of news about Calliope. Calix shared some photos with her, saying they were taken by the person who visited the orphanage.

"The place is a bit old but, in decent condition. The director is a good person. I’ve entrusted my people to send supplies and give other help to them."

Calix’s story was enough to spread joy in Leslie’s heart. Knowing how just this man was, she knew that she could believe in what he said.

Leslie kept thanking Calix for the assistance. She put the printed photos nearby. From the moment she received them, Leslie started and ended her day by looking at the pictures.

Her Calliope was always an adorable girl no matter in which world. Despite having a completely different face, Leslie’s love for her daughter was all the same.

There was one thing for sure.

Leslie didn’t have a concrete answer but, she believed that Calliope’s soul transmigrated into this little child’s body during the latter’s demise.

Perhaps, this world’s Calliope faced something terrible that led to her death.

Leslie had asked Mimo but, the crochet fox toy couldn’t answer her. At the same time, she couldn’t help but wonder if...

This world’s Calliope was Charlene’s daughter.

’If only I can access her old memories, I’ll know whether my guesses are true or not.’

Leslie’s attempts to scour Charlene’s memories to look for any glimpse or mention of the latter’s child were futile. She kept getting a headache every time she tried doing that.

In the end, Leslie decided to rely on Charlene’s diaries. The thing was she hadn’t—unable to—restarted the reading.

"...lie. Leslie, hey."

"...huh?"

Startled, Leslie was awakened from her trance. Blinking her eyes, she stared at Calix. He was waving one hand in front of her face, trying to get her attention.

"Are you sleepy? Wanna return upstairs?" asked Calix concernedly, his brows slightly furrowing, "You can wait in your bedroom, you know."

"I’m okay... I want to wait here..." Leslie shook her head once, refusing Calix’s suggestion, "She will arrive... soon..."

Instead of the second floor, Leslie and Calix were relaxing in the lounge. They were actually waiting for Irene’s arrival.

Today was Sunday, the day Calix told Irene to come if she wanted to see her elder sister. The high school girl was elated because he agreed to let her come.

"Come alone. There’s something I want to tell you about your sister."

Calix reminded Irene to visit by herself. Leslie was not ready to meet Rowan and Bianca yet, something he understood despite not getting any explanation from her.

Irene promised to come alone. Rowan’s personal driver would send her to Mapleview Hills. At ten o’clock, she was already on her way here.

Hearing Leslie’s refusal, Calix stopped talking about it. He swiftly changed the subject.

"I still think about your family’s relocation. I didn’t expect they had moved out of the ancestral home."

Leslie silently listened to Calix’s chattering. His words reminded her about the changes that happened within the main branch of the Li family.

True to his words, Rowan brought Bianca and Irene out of the Li family’s ancestral home. The move happened around two weeks ago but, the news only reached them recently.

Rowan found a two-story villa in a gated community, Sunnyside Ridge. The place was just twenty minutes away from Jadeite Peak where the ancestral home was located.

Because Rowan didn’t move too far, Irene didn’t have to transfer to another school. Blossom Jade High was in between Sunnyside Ridge and Jadeite Peak. Some of Irene’s schoolmates also lived there.

"My grandmother and... Second Uncle’s family... surely threw a fit..."

Calix nodded before grinning widely, "Your grandmother kept asking me to come and visit. I told her that I’m dead busy until next month."

"Hehe... aren’t you her... beloved grandson-in-law..."

Irene shared some stories with Calix which he passed to Leslie. According to the young teen, the situation at the ancestral home was tense after Sarah’s arrest.

Old Madam Li threw tantrums because Rowan insisted on handing Sarah to the police. News about the maid’s involvement in Leslie’s incident spread beyond the neighborhood.

Several of Old Madam Li’s mahjong friends inquired about the matter from her. Because of her suspicious behavior in dodging the subject, the rumors went wild.

Calix guffawed at Leslie’s remark. Shaking his head in helplessness, he pretended to shudder.

"I’m sorry to say this about your own grandmother but... I’d rather she forget about me being her grandson-in-law."

Calix knew that he hadn’t met Old Madam Li longer but, the short time was enough for him to judge her character. No wonder his grandmother disliked the old lady so very very much.

Chuckling, Leslie shrugged. She was not offended at all by how Calix viewed Old Madam Li. She also believed Charlene would feel the same if she ever heard this.

"It’s best if you... stay away from her..."

"Hurm... They’ll be super shocked if they hear about you waking up," tapping his chin, Calix referred to Old Madam Li and Geoffrey’s family, "For now, let’s tell Irene to keep it quiet. I’ll arrange the family meeting soon."

"That’s fine... with me..."

Calix and Leslie had discussed more about this matter. They didn’t want to burden Irene with keeping Leslie’s current state a secret for long thus, they decided to hold a family gathering within this month.

"Mr. Calix, Mrs. Charlene."

Aunt Wendy’s sudden appearance caught the husband and wife’s attention. The housekeeper gestured in the direction of the entryway.

"Mrs. Charlene’s sister has arrived."
