Chapter 170: Did Her Will Easily Defeated by Her Sleepiness?

Calix had no time to see how Calliope hid inside the tree hole. His sharp hearing caught the sound of the children getting captured by the seeker.

’Screw this!’

Having no choice, Calix jumped before agilely climbing the tall tree. His luck was good because the tree was densely surrounded by its leaves. He found a perfect spot to hide there.

Calix sat on one of the sturdy branches. Leaning his back against the trunk, he stretched out his long legs.

"Well... will those kids find me here?"

Even though CEO Xu didn’t want the children to cry because he defeated them, he still wondered what would it feel like to win. He hadn’t played hide-and-seek in ages.

While hiding in the tree, Calix took his sweet time looking over the backyard. The view from the high angle helped him to see everything clearly. He also spotted the vegetable patches on the other side of the backyard.

"Hurm... if Edward knows what I’m doing, I bet he’ll curse me for three generations."

Calix was inadvertently reminded of his loyal subordinate. He left Edward to face the troublesome people at the company while he was having fun playing with the children here.

"Should I take photos?"

CEO Xu couldn’t keep his mouth quiet despite being in hiding. He slipped his personal phone out of the pocket of his jacket before he started capturing photos. Before doing so, he didn’t forget to put his phone on silent mode.

"I can show these to Leslie," grinned Calix, excited over the idea before his expression fell in the next second, "Ah, no. How can I do that? She’ll ask where is this place."

Shaking his head, Calix exhaled a sigh. He kept the phone back inside the jacket pocket. Pursing his lips into a thin line, he saw Noah walking to the backyard.

"Dylan~ Rinnie~ Misters~ Come out, come out, wherever you are~"

Calix watched in awe as Noah kept ousting the children from their hiding places. He didn’t see any of his men there. Perhaps all of them hid in the front yard.

"Wow~ That kid is good."

Calix clammed his mouth shut when Noah came approaching near the tree area. Pulling his legs closer to his chest, he tried to erase his presence as much as possible.

’Is she alright over there?’

Calix threw his gaze down, wondering how Calliope was. He still couldn’t believe what he had just seen earlier. She swiftly sneaked into the tree hole as if she had done so countless times before.

The tree hole was hidden by the dense bushes. If Calliope hadn’t pointed it to him before, Calix might have missed it.

"Ah~ I still have... five people to catch. Where are they?"

Noah stood right under the tree. Tilting his head up, he narrowed his eyes to try seeing up there. The sunbeam was blinding, hindering him from seeing clearly.

"Hurm... Let’s check other places."

Turning around, Noah ran away from the tree. Baffled by the little boy’s action, Calix quietly watched him leave the area.

"Why did he go just like that?" murmured Calix to himself.

Earlier, Calix saw how Noah didn’t stop searching for his friends no matter where they were hiding. The bushes around the tree were not overly dense but, the little boy didn’t go further.

Shrugging, Calix simply assumed Noah didn’t want to go into trouble scouring the bushes. His mind changed in the next second.

"...wait. What if he has a reason?"

A terrifying thought flashed in Calix’s mind. Without thinking, he jumped from the branch, steadily landing on both feet.

"P-Poppy!"

Pushing the bushes to form a way, Calix rushed to where Calliope was hiding. He immediately poked his head into the tree hole.

"...Uncle?"

Calliope’s soft voice echoed inside the semi-closed cavity. Calix vaguely saw her small frame move in the dimness before her face entered his line of sight.

"Uncle, what’s wrong? Has Noah left?"

Calix blinked, thinking back to what had just crossed his mind. Even though Calliope’s face was still slightly concealed by the lack of lighting, he could tell she was in a good state.

But...

"Noah has left," Calix extended one arm, offering his palm to Calliope, "Why don’t we move to another place? Or, go to the front yard?"

Calix didn’t want to bring up his concern to Calliope yet. The little girl didn’t know that he imagined something dangerous like centipedes or tiny snakes might lurk in the bushes and the tree hollow.

’Maybe that’s why the boy didn’t come looking here.’

Calliope didn’t protest Calix’s suggestion. Placing her tiny palm on the man’s broad one, she slowly moved out of the tree hole. Her crochet fox toy was still accompanying her.

"Where else should we hide?" asked Calix while crouching next to Calliope. They were still hiding behind the bushes, "Do you still wanna hide? How about returning to your friends?"

Calix vaguely remembered how a hide-and-seek game ended. Either the seeker caught everyone or the last hider came out of their hiding, being the last one standing.

"Poppy is sleepy," Calliope let out a yawn, revealing her white teeth, "Uncle, let’s go back."

Calix chuckled, amused by Calliope’s antics. Earlier, she acted as if she didn’t want to be discovered by Noah at all. Now, she wanted to end the game herself because she felt sleepy.

Did her will easily be defeated by her drowsiness?

"Alright, let’s head back."

The two people—one tall and one short—came out of the bushes. Calix walked slowly to match Calliope’s pace. They headed to the front yard where everyone was waiting for the game to end.

"Oh~ That’s Poppy and mister!"

A boy exclaimed once he spotted Calix and Calliope emerging from the backyard. The other children started calling for the little girl, waving their hands frantically.

The children waited on the wooden platform placed under a tree while Calix’s bodyguards stood around them. The latter group smiled sheepishly at their boss.

"Poppy! Why you come out now? Noah is still looking for you!" asked one of the children as Calliope and Calix walked nearer to them.

"Poppy wanna sleep," replied Calliope, followed by another yawn, "Give me some space, please~ Let me sleep there."

Calix watched the little one kicking off her shoes before climbing the platform. Without caring about the game anymore, she lay on the deck with her eyes closed.

"Oh, Poppy~"

A few of the children followed Calliope. As if they had forgotten about the game, they lay curling on the platform. Their action enticed Calix to smile deeper.

"Mr. Xu, did you have fun?"

Director Li appeared not long after Calliope and her friends slept on the wooden deck. Calix glanced at the little one before responding to the middle-aged woman.

"I had fun. The boy is still looking for his friends," Calix stepped closer to Director Li. Lowering his voice, he said, "May I have a private talk with you when the children are napping?"

Director Li blinked, sensing something was different from the man’s gaze. But, she didn’t make any open inquiry with the others around.

"Sure, Mr. Xu."

Calix arched his brows, putting on a nonchalant look despite having myriads of questions entangling in his mind.
