Chapter 146: Meeting Dr. Mo

"Are you comfortable? Need me to change the temperature?"

Calix’s questions were replied to with a shake of Leslie’s head. Her eyes were slightly opened behind the sunglasses.

"...I’m fine. You... sit ah."

Calix raised his brows, sighing before putting on a helpless smile. After placing a throw blanket over Leslie’s legs, he finally sat on the chair next to her.

Calix had just placed Leslie on her seat. Even though the plush car chair offered the utmost comfort, he still couldn’t help but worry. He put a pillow behind Leslie’s back as an additional padding.

"We may go now," said Calix, intending to Uncle Raymond who sat behind the wheels of the black executive van.

"Yes, sir."

Mrs. An sat on the seat behind Leslie. Seeing how much Mr. Xu cared for his wife softened her smile. He might be very anxious to know what the doctor had to say regarding Mrs. Xu’s current health condition.

’How attentive. I think I haven’t seen Mr. Calix like that with other ladies.’

While driving out of Graceville Manor, Uncle Raymond quietly entertained his curiosity. He witnessed how gentle Calix had been treating Leslie, something that he never thought to see with his own eyes.

If his wife saw this... she would be over the moon.

Uncle Raymond and Aunt Wendy knew Calix even before they started working at the man’s private residence. Edward often brought him back to their humble abode.

Throughout the years, Uncle Raymond could tell how respectful Calix was with others. It was the reason why he and his wife comfortably accepted the man’s offer to work at the manor sometime later.

But...

’Edward said they barely knew each other. I don’t think so. Perhaps, they’ve met before.’

Uncle Raymond and Aunt Wendy were surprised to hear news of Calix getting married to a young lady who was in a coma. But, they thought nothing bad about it.

His nephew Edward vaguely mentioned that the new spouses were not really familiar with each other thus, Uncle Raymond assumed it might be a business marriage. It was a common practice in high society.

Thus, seeing how well Calix interacted with Leslie earlier stunned Uncle Raymond. His wife also felt the same.

Nevertheless, they were happy with the lady of the house regaining consciousness. Surely she would recover well in the future.

"Dear, did you see how Mr. Calix looked? When he carried Mrs. Charlene?"

His wife’s joyful voice echoed in his mind, reminding Uncle Raymond of the first time they saw their master carrying their madam downstairs.

Calix didn’t know how deeply Uncle Raymond was thinking about him and Leslie right now. He kept staring at her, intending to find out any signs of discomfort as soon as possible.

Did she feel cold?

Was the chair feel hard to her weakened body?

What if the sunglasses didn’t help as much as he imagined?

Noticing how intent his stare was, Leslie stiffly moved her neck. She couldn’t fully open her eyes but still vaguely saw how uneasy Calix’s expression was.

It was funny seeing CEO Xu so worried.

"Not... handsome. Ease... up. Don’t look... so tensed."

Calix blinked, not expecting to hear those words from Leslie. Uncle Raymond and Mrs. An also caught them despite how low and husky her voice was.

"Yeah, yeah," Calix smiled in helplessness. Reaching out a hand, he patted the back of Leslie’s, "Sleep if you need. We’ll arrive soon."

"...en."

Dr. Rachel Mo worked at a private hospital—Crest Care Medical Center—in Silvercrest City. The place offered the utmost security and privacy for its patients who mostly came from the upper echelons.

Calix didn’t want anyone to see him bringing Leslie to the hospital whether they were his acquaintances or the press. None of them should know about her current condition yet. It might disrupt her focus on getting better.

’I haven’t asked Leslie about telling her family.’

Calix made a mental note about it, thinking to inquire from Leslie after her checkups with Dr. Mo. But, he had a hunch that she was reluctant to do so.

Leslie was only comfortable with her younger sibling Irene. Even though Rowan and Bianca showed minor signs of changing for the better, the past events still hurt her deeply.

Inwardly shaking his head, Calix pushed the thoughts to the back of his mind. His gaze drifted to Leslie. She kept her eyes closed behind the sunglasses, perhaps once again falling asleep.

They reached Crest Care Medical Center in half an hour. Uncle Raymond pulled up at the location told by Calix. Two nurses were already waiting for them there with a wheelchair.

"Welcome, CEO Xu and Mrs. Xu," greeted the nurses once they came out of the van.

"Bring us to Dr. Mo," Calix carefully placed Leslie in the wheelchair. She had woken up from her nap, "I’ll push my wife myself. Just show us the way."

"Understand. CEO Xu, please follow us."

Calix told Uncle Raymond to head back first. The examinations might take hours. Only Mrs. An remained with them.

The nurses led Calix, Leslie and Mrs. An to the elevator down the hallway. The corridor was deserted from other people.

Dr. Mo’s office was on the fifth floor. The middle-aged woman had just arrived from her home. She smilingly invited Leslie and Calix inside.

"Good morning, Mr. and Mrs. Xu," Dr. Mo shifted her gaze to Leslie, seeing the young lady being wheeled by Calix, "Congratulations on waking up, Mrs. Xu. It’s a crucial step before reaching other milestones."

"Thank... you, Dr. Mo," Leslie curled her lips, expressing her gratitude to the doctor she had just met, "I will... be... in your care."

Dr. Mo deepened her smile. After offering them to sit opposite her working desk, she began talking to the spouses. Leslie and Calix put all of their focus on the doctor.

Dr. Mo explained what kind of examinations would be performed on Leslie. An uneasy Calix couldn’t help but ask anything he was doubtful of. Fortunately, Dr. Mo’s answers helped to ease his worries.

"We’ll start our examinations now," Dr. Mo rose from the swivel chair, reassuring Leslie with soft-spoken words, "Mrs. Xu, if you feel uncomfortable later, just signal to me."

Leslie nodded once before glancing at Calix, "Aren’t... you busy?"

Calix had just returned from his week-long business trip but, Leslie was aware of his busy schedule. She remembered bits of his conversation with Edward and his other aides.

"I’ll accompany you here," replied Calix with a helpless smile, understanding the meaning behind Leslie’s short question, "Edward will come soon. Just focus on your checkups, en?"

Leslie slowly blinked, staring at Calix through the sunglasses. His simple words easily fluttered her heart.

"...okay."

Dr. Mo mentioned nothing about the spouses’ interaction. She called two nurses inside to assist her with the medical examinations. Following her instructions, they brought Leslie out of the office.

Dr. Mo and Calix followed Leslie and the nurses. Before heading to another room, the former told the man, "Mr. Xu, you may wait at the lounge there. I’ll immediately notify you if there’s anything."

"I’ll leave my wife in your care," Calix solemnly replied, "Thank you, Dr. Mo."

Dr. Mo simply smiled and nodded once. Turning around, she headed to where the three ladies went to. Calix watched them with a frown marring his forehead.
