Chapter 85: Chapter 85: The Day When the Moon and People are Complete

Even though she knew she shouldn’t, Shang Ruyi’s heart still thudded hard against her chest.

She reached out to grasp that hand and stepped down from the carriage.

Seeing this, the surrounding people couldn’t help but burst into laughter, especially Pei Xingyuan, who had been teasing them all along, and now made sure to wink at them deliberately.

Shang Ruyi’s face flushed a little. She coughed softly to calm herself, then looked up to see the brightly lit three-story building ahead, which was the most famous tavern in Eastern Capital City—Tinghe Building.

No matter how desolate it was outside the city or how many wars were ravaging the land, Eastern Capital City was still bustling with activity, people flowing like tides, and Tinghe Building was even more bustling with merchants and travelers coming and going. As soon as the servitor saw the group of noble sons in their fine attire, he immediately stepped forward to greet them and ushered them to the third floor, where the decor was luxurious and guests, though few, were all wealthy and distinguished. The servitor led them into a spacious elegant room, pulled down the beaded curtain, and then retreated.

Several low tables were already set with wine and dishes, and the air was filled with the mellow aroma of wine.

Once everyone was seated, Pei Xingyuan immediately picked up his wine cup and said with a smile, "Come, let’s first toast to Brother Feng Chen and my sister-in-law."

Both of them raised their wine cups and drank together with everyone.

After a glass, everyone began to pick up their chopsticks to eat, drinking as they ate and discussing amusing anecdotes that had happened around them lately. Pei Xingyuan was evidently a very witty person; even a mundane little thing became amusing in his words, filling the gathering with constant laughter. Even Yu Wenye, who usually kept a straight face, occasionally had a hint of a smile appear on his lips.

After three rounds of drinks, Yu Wenye asked, "By the way, how come you’re out carousing this late? Didn’t Lord Pei forbid you from going out drinking at night?"

Pei Xingyuan’s face was already a bit flushed with alcohol as he replied, grinning, "Today, the old man doesn’t care."

"Why?"

"The old man himself is hosting a gathering at home today. He’s afraid I’d disrupt his mood, so he kicked me out."

"Oh?"

Yu Wenye asked, "Who’s he inviting?"

Pei Xingyuan replied, "Who else but his colleagues, of course. He calls it a feast, but everyone looks so dour. I can’t stand being with them, so I ran out."

Someone nearby teased him, "Xing Yuan, why didn’t you stay home to listen to what they were saying?"

Pei Xingyuan waved his hand, "Listening to them at home is nowhere near as fun as coming out drinking with brothers."

With that, he raised his cup to toast everyone again.

As they were drinking, they suddenly heard a commotion outside the window. Everyone got up, walked to the window, lifted the bamboo curtain, and realized that a lot of people had gathered along the road below. Some were setting up wooden stakes, others were tying ropes, all busy with work, and pedestrians watching on were clapping and cheering.

Shang Ruyi asked curiously, "What’s going on?"

Pei Xingyuan answered, "They’re hanging lanterns. Tomorrow is Mid-Autumn, so naturally, the city will be decorated with lanterns."

Only then did Shang Ruyi recall that it was Mid-Autumn.

These days, she’d been obsessing over various big and small matters, especially preoccupied with her return to Luoyang, so she’d even lost track of the date.

Mid-Autumn...

A time for the moon to be full and people to gather.

Thinking of this, she couldn’t help but glance at Yu Wenye, only to see him standing by the window, looking downstairs with a somewhat dazed look in his eyes, lost in thought about something.
