Chapter 526: 495 Did I dig up your ancestral grave?

"I have seen the Elf Queen."

At that moment, as if trying to break the heavy silence of the scene, Lasha paid her respects to Elf Queen Sophie.

This bow elicited no small reaction from Sophie.

"No... no need for such formality!"

Sophie hastily waved her hand and shook her head.

Her reaction was more akin to being startled than modesty.

Shane had seen a similar scenario before.

Previously, when Lasha paid her respects to Ai Yi and Sera, the responses of these two members of the Demon Clan were also considerable, as if they were flattered or as though they couldn’t bear such reverence.

Shane had noticed something amiss, but neither Ai Yi nor Sera would explain and always evaded the topic with him.

Now, even the Elf Queen, who had lived for thousands of years, exhibited the same behavior, which truly bewildered Shane.

Yet seeing the unprecedented seriousness of Luoqi’s demeanor, the intricacies of this matter seemed far from simple; otherwise, this girl would not have tried to stop him from delving deeper.

Thereupon, Shane could only turn to look at Lasha.

But Lasha still wore her expressionless face—not so much out of nonchalance, it seemed, but rather as if resisting something, which had brought about her indifferent demeanor.

This apparently displeased Ai Yi greatly, as her gaze toward the Elf Queen turned sour.

Seeing this, Sophie couldn’t help but feel a bitter taste in her heart.

She knew she had inadvertently touched upon a secret that all at the pinnacle of Omni Potanssen tacitly agreed to conceal.

She had withdrawn from the world for too long; although she had always followed the news from the outside, her interest was limited to awareness and she lacked the psychological preparedness that came with firsthand experience.

Thus, when she first saw Lasha, Sophie’s instinctive reaction, along with that of Leiya and Nia behind her, was to respond in kind.

It was only at this moment that Sophie remembered the events that had taken place in the Royal Capital of the Mitra Kingdom ten years ago and thereby understood why Ai Yi was so displeased.

She wanted to apologize, but there was no way to do so.

Because, after all, this affair was not to be mentioned in public.

Ai Yi standing up was likely for that very reason.

Hence, if Sophie were to apologize for this matter now, it would undoubtedly mean bringing it up again.

And clearly, this was not what Ai Yi and Luoqi wanted to happen.

So...

"I apologize, everyone, for my impoliteness."

Sophie calmed herself down, reconciling her inner turmoil, and gently nodded to Shane and his party.

"I am Sophie, Queen of the Elf Clan. I regret not being able to welcome you promptly and ask for your forgiveness for my neglect and oversight."

With that, Sophie inclines her body slightly in an apology to Shane and the others present, and the atmosphere at the scene finally eased somewhat.

"Your Majesty, hello," Luoqi also bowed to Queen Sophie, her voice clear and melodic, "I am Luosilusti Mitra."

"I see, so you are the Kingdom’s Treasure?" Sophie realized with an enlightened smile, "This is our first meeting, isn’t it?"

"Yes," Luoqi responded, not overwhelmed by the Elf Queen’s aura, but rather composedly, "The Elf Clan is secluded from the world, even my father has never met you. It is truly my honor to meet you today."

"I am very grateful for your politeness, Princess Luoqi," Sophie responded warmly and kindly, "Although the Elf Clan is secluded and I have not left the Elf Country for a long time, the name of the Kingdom’s Treasure is well-known even among my people. I have had the honor of having a comradeship in arms with your ancestor, Hero Mitra. Since you are the descendant of my old friend, there is no need for too much formality. Please, feel at home here."

No sooner had she spoken, before Luoqi could respond, Ai Yi started to stir trouble.

"Old friend?" Ai Yi, seemingly finally catching an opportunity, scoffed, "Wasn’t Mitra that fool always pursuing you? And you still consider him just an old friend?"

Startling secrets were thus exposed by Ai Yi.

"Cough...!"

Luoqi choked in shock.

"Pursuit?"

Shane also jolted, temporarily forgetting the earlier events, his face a picture of surprise.

Even Merica and the Elf Mage Corps widened their eyes in disbelief, obviously not expecting to suddenly hear such explosive news.

"What? You didn’t know?" Ai Yi seemed intent on not letting Sophie off, still seemingly dwelling on the earlier issue, and calmly revealed, "There’s nothing to be surprised about, right? Throughout history, Heroes have been passionate, none has ever been faithful to one. Isn’t it a natural matter for Mitra, that hypocritic, to want to pursue the famously beautiful Elf Queen?"

While saying this, Ai Yi for some reason glanced over at Shane.

"????"

Shane suddenly felt he had been offended.

Was this a case of talking about the mulberry while pointing at the locust tree?

Could they possibly be any more explicit?

What was even more outrageous was that, aside from Ai Yi, upon hearing that "past heroes have always been amorous," everyone else had glanced at him without leaving a trace.

Shane nearly flipped the table.

Why were they suddenly picking on him?

Had he dug up their ancestral graves?

Damn it!

In contrast, Sophie didn’t change her expression at all due to the exposure of this issue.

"Princess Ai Yi is still so fond of jest." Sophie said casually, "The pursuit of beauty is an instinct deep inside every Human Race member. Mitra might be a Hero, but he is also a Human. It’s inevitable that he would do some impulsive things when he was young. In the end, didn’t he also find a good match, establish a family, and leave such an outstanding descendant?"

With one sentence, she had belittled the Hero who once pursued her as a young lad, still wet behind the ears.

It sounded like she was defending the Hero’s honor, but if Hero Mitra were still alive and heard that the Goddess he pursued saw him as an impetuous kid, he would be deeply hurt, wouldn’t he?

"Speaking of which, didn’t you also reject his pursuit mercilessly at that time?" Ai Yi said with a smile that wasn’t quite a smile, "I heard that after being spurned by you, and on top of being severely injured by the Demon King’s Power, he couldn’t recover from his injuries and his health was compromised. That’s why he became disillusioned and went off to found a Kingdom, later marrying a Maid by his side, and stopped his frivolous lifestyle."

As she spoke, Ai Yi glanced at Shane again, causing the corner of his mouth to twitch.

Sophie still maintained the same expression.

"I personally think it’s a good thing."

Sophie said that, seemingly genuinely uninterested in Hero Mitra.

Shane could only silently mourn for his predecessor in his heart.

"Hmph!"

Ai Yi stopped bothering Sophie and turned her head away with a cold snort.

Luoqi also fell silent.

Not that she had nothing to say, but she had suddenly encountered such a huge revelation, and it involved her own ancestor, whom the family took pride in; one could hardly imagine the complexity of her emotions.

Especially upon hearing that Ancestor Mitra had become disillusioned after being rejected by the Elf Queen, went on to found a Kingdom, and married a Maid by his side instead of continuing a life of debauchery, Luoqi felt completely out of sorts.

Hmm, it seemed that the grand image of the ancestor was crumbling.

At this moment, Sophie finally turned her gaze to Shane.

"You must be Count Shane Beizitu, correct?"

Sophie watched Shane, her eyes seeming to flicker with some emotion.

"Hello, Your Majesty."

Seeing that her attention was on him, Shane casually touched his nose, appearing neither cold nor warm.

It wasn’t because he was putting on airs, but the recent situation had taught Shane that now was the time to be concerned about his image, lest he be ridiculed for a thousand years like that predecessor.

That would be too tragic.

"Welcome to the Elf Country." Sophie didn’t seem to find anything wrong with Shane’s attitude, just saying, "You are the second male from an Alien Race to visit the Elf Country after Hero Mitra. So, I’m sorry we might have been offensive to you, and I ask you to please not take it to heart."

Her words suggested that since the Elf Clan rarely hosted members of the opposite sex, any shortcomings were unavoidable.

This made Shane realize that the Elf Queen was quite skillful; she managed to subtly downplay the situation, effectively minimizing a major issue.

"So I can go in now?"

Shane carried a bit of playfulness in his tone.

"Of course." Sophie said unflinchingly, "Since you have been recognized by our people during the Peace Festival and have received a proper invitation, you may enter the Elf Country and participate in the Elf Clan’s Peace Festival."

Sophie’s words caused Carol, who was beside her, to speak up.

"But, Your Majesty, there’s something about him..."

Carol wanted to point out the situation with Shane.

But Sophie, of course, had already noticed the anomaly.

"Lord Beizut is a Hero of the Human Race protected by the Demon Clan and the Divine Race, and possesses great Magic Power and strength. It’s not surprising that he has certain special qualities," Sophie shook her head at Carol, saying, "He is not an intruder, nor a schemer, but rather a guest invited by our people. For us to send him back because of our own reasons would not only be discourteous but offensive."

"At the Peace Festival, we should be promoting peace to the outside world and the concept of unity, not alienating others over groundless worries."

"Besides, since this man has been recognized by our people, sending him away is not a commendable action, Carol, especially for the children who have recognized him."

Hearing this, Carol was momentarily taken aback and looked towards Merica’s direction.
