Chapter 448 - 438 The person protected by the Dragon Demon
Chapter 448: 438 The person protected by the Dragon Demon
Unconsciously, the meteors that fell from the sky began to diminish gradually until they completely disappeared.
The onslaught of meteors upon the earth finally stopped, causing the incessant earthquakes and the raging sandstorms to slowly settle down.
Everything returned to calm.
However, the entire Noble District that had been ravaged could not be restored to its original state.
"Crack...crack crack...!"
The sound of crumbling rocks was everywhere.
The dust, not yet fully dispersed, hung in the air like the smoke of wolves.
"Huff—huff—huff—huff—"
You Lin was still flapping her wings, soaring mid-air, gazing down at the ruins below where only dilapidated buildings remained amidst numerous large craters, the utterly destroyed ground; and though she suppressed the urge to roar, excitement was still evident in her eyes.
Clearly, this sight of devastation pleased the near invincible King of Demons.
Shane finally jumped down from the dragon’s head, floating to the ground like a feather, which made the magic power churning within him die down as well.
Members of Vivian’s Team, either holding their hands up to their faces or slumped on the ground or gathered in front of the Beizut Family’s door, looked at the scene of devastation before them and fell into a speechless state.
In the Noble District, except for a few sparse houses, only the Beizut Family remained intact.
Everywhere else had turned into rubble.
"This..."
Lu Muya found herself unable to speak.
"..."
Tielle was likewise silent.
"Sh...Shane, Mr. Xi’en...?"
Merica seemed to not quite believe that all of this was Shane’s doing.
Even Vivian was visibly shaken as she looked at the scene, then at Shane who stood expressionless before this spectacle of destruction, unable to react for a long while.
"... You’ve gone too far."
After what seemed like an eternity, Vivian couldn’t help but mutter.
Shane just curled his lip.
"Don’t worry, I haven’t lost my mind enough to start a massacre in the Royal Capital," Shane said with a wry smile. "The magic I just cast was at its lowest power, limited to the Noble District, where I spread the force out. Plus, I deliberately avoided any location with a magic response, and I gave enough time for people to escape. There shouldn’t be any innocent casualties."
Of course...
"Innocent fatalities were avoided, but the guilty kind is another matter."
The sardonic tone of Shane’s words was not lost on the members of Vivian’s Team.
Ahead, in the cratered ruins of the plaza, the Knights and guards of the Lucica Family were scattered on the ground.
Some were buried under dust.
Some were stuck deep in craters.
And without exception, the life force had left them all.
That’s right.
Only those who had received Jerome’s orders and attacked Shane had suffered actual fatal injuries; now, they lay dead or wounded.
As for Jerome...
"Ugh...ah..."
The Duke was already collapsed on the ground, a pool of blood beneath him, his breath faint, unable to move his body, obviously not long for this world.
There was no way around it.
Others Shane could let flee, but this Duke was inescapable.
He must have been hit by the second meteor that fell; how could he have escaped?
Had it not been for the fact that at the very end he seemed to have activated a scroll, using some magic tool to raise a very sturdy magic barrier around him, he would have been utterly pulverized by now.
"One can always expect a Duke to have some life-saving treasures," Shane said as he approached Jerome.
Shane kicked Jerome over so that he was facing him.
"So, how does it feel, Your Grace?"
Shane loomed over Jerome with that same mocking tone as before.
Jerome opened his bloodstained eyes to see Shane.
In his eyes, there was no longer the anger and hatred from before, only fear remained.
"It’s you..." Jerome spoke in a dying breath, "the one who... destroyed Galuo Li... it’s...you...?"
Jerome finally realized the truth.
"I don’t think I’ve ever said it wasn’t me, right?" Shane shrugged and said, "It’s just that you self-righteous nobles thought I couldn’t do it, that’s why you didn’t believe it was me, isn’t that right?"
Now, Jerome understood.
This time, he had truly provoked someone he shouldn’t have.
"Why...why...?" Jerome struggled to speak, "Why must you... eradicate the Lucicas...?"
Edel was mercilessly killed by Shane.
Almost all of the Knights he brought had fallen.
Even he was on the brink of death; such an outcome was still unbelievable to Jerome.
However, his questions and doubts sounded utterly ridiculous in Shane’s ears.
"You’re actually asking me why?"
Shane couldn’t help but laugh as if he had heard the world’s biggest joke, yet his eyes were devoid of any mirth.
True, this time Jerome and the others literally walked onto the barrel of the gun only to be made an example of.
But Shane didn’t just pick any chicken for the lesson.
"Now that you’ve asked me why, I’d like to ask you," Shane voiced with sarcasm, "Why can your precious son bully both men and women?"
"Why can your precious son randomly abduct women against their will?"
"Do they deserve to be violated and utterly destroyed?"
"And you, knowing full well about these deeds, why do you have the face to come ask me why, and why can you still so righteously come here, pompously surround my house, demanding that I turn someone over?"
Shane stretched out his foot, stepping on Jerome’s chest.
"How’s that? Are you the only ones allowed to bully others, but others can’t bully you?"
"If you’re not the least bit self-aware, then let me tell you, if it weren’t for the fact that you’re a Duke, and your Lucica Family is so-called Duke’s family, then, based on what your son has done, and your shielding of him, you would have died over ten thousand times already."
"But the reason you haven’t died before isn’t because you don’t deserve to die, it’s just that the person who can ignore your power, who isn’t threatened by you, and yet has the ability to kill you, simply hasn’t appeared until now."
"And now, since you’ve provoked me first, it proves that your time to die has come, and that’s all there is to it."
Shane then used the most direct, most domineering, and simplest way to tell Jerome why they had fallen to this point.
"That’s why I said, you’re clearly not the most powerful one, you don’t have the ability to act recklessly, so on what basis do you dare to do so many things that trample on human rights."
"Your son bullies both men and women, and you indulge him."
"The Lucica Family accepts bribes, and you’re the first in line."
"Even within the Lucica Territory, there is no shortage of Nobles who are corrupt, accepting bribes, engaging in collusion, and misusing their authority, and as the Lord, you know all about it and yet choose to turn a blind eye."
"Given this, tell me, why can’t I, who finds you disagreeable, who finds your son disagreeable, who finds your whole family disagreeable, simply slaughter you all?"
Jerome heard Shane’s words, loud and clear.
Shane didn’t know if he understood, nor did he care if he could understand.
That’s why...
"The Lucica Family has come to this day, even if it’s come to an end, this is the outcome."
Shane declared indifferently.
"You and your beloved son, go to Hell, and confess to those you have harmed."
Upon hearing this, Jerome laughed.
He laughed maniacally.
"You... you will die too..."
Jerome was coughing up blood while laughing heartily.
"Destroying the Noble District like this... offending so many... Nobles... and offending... so many foreign dignitaries... they... won’t let you off... the Kingdom... won’t let you off...!"
Jerome was resigned to his fate, in despair, yet he did not forget to drag Shane down to Hell with him.
In fact, there were still some terrified Nobles emerging from various corners of the Noble District, gathering here as if they had just survived a great calamity, looking at Shane with both fear and hatred in their hearts.
Just as Jerome had said, it was one thing for Shane to eliminate the Lucica Family, but he dared to use such large-scale magic in the Royal Capital, turning the entire Noble District into this state; surely, he had already been hated by many Nobles.
And those foreign dignitaries who came to the Royal Capital who had just experienced that terrifying meteor shower and were affected must have already hated Shane, right?
Under such circumstances, all they needed to do was put pressure on the Kingdom and, coupled with the crime of destroying the Noble District, Shane would surely not escape punishment.
That’s what Jerome was thinking.
Only too bad...
"I really would like to know, who dares to touch my people."
When such a calm statement resonated in this world, everyone’s complexion changed.
"Da—Da—Da—Da—"
Clear and distinct footsteps sounded as a young girl holding a pillow appeared step by step from the Beizut Family residence, standing before everyone.
Seeing the girl, many gasped in shock.
"Dragon Demon Ai Yi...!?"
"It’s Dragon Demon Ai Yi...!"
"She... she’s actually still in the Royal Capital?"
"This..."
At the edge of the surrounding ruins, people who had just arrived at the scene were all exclaiming in astonishment.
Ai Yi simply came to Shane’s side, glanced at Jerome’s stunned face, then turned her gaze in another direction.
"Would you dare? The King of Mitra."
Ai Yi’s words first startled everyone, then they realized in astonishment that Anxi had appeared at some point, getting out of a luxurious carriage.
"Your Majesty!"
"Your Majesty!"
The surrounding Nobles and civilians alike changed their expressions, some bowing and others kneeling to welcome Anxi.
Anxi looked at the ruins all around, then at Jerome who was under Shane’s foot, his face full of bitterness.
"Lady Ai Yi..."
Anxi opened his mouth, only to find he couldn’t say a word.
Especially when looking into Shane’s eyes, it was complexity beyond words.
Anxi had truly not expected Shane to be so bold, not only to have beaten a Duke’s family into such a state, but also to have destroyed the entire Noble District.
Such a defiant act, Anxi could hardly believe Shane had really done it.
And Ai Yi had stood up for Shane too.
That was, of course, to be expected.
"Ever since last time Sister Sela visited here, letting you all discover my existence, you seemed to have been guessing, just what is my relationship with Shane, right?"
Ai Yi spoke indifferently.
Indeed.
People had been guessing just what the relationship between Shane and Ai Yi was, why a powerful Dragon Demon would appear by his side.
This is also why everyone’s description of Shane was "suspected to be supported by a Demon in the background."
Because they dared not confirm whether Shane truly had the support of a Demon.
Perhaps the individual just happened to be here?
Compared to Shane establishing a friendly relationship, many people preferred to think that way.
But now...
"I can tell you directly, dispelling your lucky thoughts."
Ai Yi’s voice filled the entire place.
"Shane is a Human I fancy, and he is under my protection."
"To be an enemy of him is to be an enemy of me, the Dragon Demon, and of my Demon Clan."
"Want to move against him?"
"Then, you’ll need my permission first."
