Chapter 401: 395 The mad dog that lost its reason
Ultimately, Laischa still agreed to accompany Shane to the Royal Capital.
Even though as a wanted criminal of the Kingdom, she should stay far away from the Royal Capital and not get any closer to avoid slipping up, Laischa wasn’t too worried with Shane around.
In the case of others, naturally, no one could keep Laischa safe.
After all, Laischa had been one of the Old Demon Clan Faction involved in that large-scale assassination incident ten years ago, and had stolen important items from the Royal Palace. Once discovered by the Kingdom People, even the Royal Family could not possibly protect her.
If it weren’t for the fear of the item Laischa had stolen, perhaps the Kingdom would have already sent the Guard Knight Order to hunt down Laischa.
Under such circumstances, anyone who wanted to protect Laischa was simply courting death.
But if the person was Shane, that was a different story.
First, Shane had Ai Yi by his side.
Second, Shane was accompanied by Lilith.
Third, Shane had Luoqi backing him.
Moreover, with his identity as a Hero now revealed to the Divine Race, entities like Anima would likely not be stingy with their secret assistance. Would the Kingdom dare to offend a person under the protection of such major figures from the God, Human, and Demon clans?
Of course, they wouldn’t dare.
Plus, as a Space Mage, Laischa was confident in her talent and daring. If she couldn’t win, she could just escape directly, and no one could stop her. This time, if she went, she went—she truly wasn’t afraid.
Naturally, Shane wasn’t afraid either.
However, his boldness didn’t stem from having support to his front, side, and rear (all of whom were women), but from his confidence that even if Laischa’s presence was discovered, he had a thousand reasons to dodge the blame.
Otherwise, did they really think he got the nickname "Blame-shifter" for nothing?
Moreover, Shane wasn’t interested in Laischa.
"I’m just craving her Maid!"
As long as he said that, it should... probably... maybe... possibly... be fine, right?
Considering this, Shane was still able to protect this Lady before getting to the bottom of things.
Laischa didn’t know about this, otherwise, she would definitely turn around and leave, never to deal with Shane again.
Unfortunately, by the time Laischa found out about this, it might already be too late.
In this way, the group accomplished their purpose and prepared to head straight back to the Royal Capital.
However, during the day, an unexpected visitor came to call on Shane.
"What brings you here, Duke Barry?"
Seeing Barry appear at the door, Shane raised an eyebrow, surprised, yet amused.
The visitor was none other than the head of Duke Sterling’s Family, the Lord of this domain—Barry Strim.
Barry, accompanied by four Knights of no low Level, appeared there, looking unexpressively at Shane.
"That line should be mine," Barry said indifferently. "I truly did not know Viscount Bezut would come to my domain and get involved in the Cosmos incident."
Hearing this, Shane knew that the visitor was unfriendly.
And whether it was coincidence or not, at this moment, Shane was alone.
Ai Yi was sleeping in the room.
Both Laischa and Lasha had perhaps sensed the arrival of the Great Nobles from the Kingdom in advance. To avoid exposing their identities, they had used Space Magic to leave the inn a moment earlier, leaving no trace of Magic Power or Qi.
Lilith was also still asleep and hadn’t woken up.
Only Shane, upon noticing Barry’s arrival along with several remarkable Magic Powers, had just woken up from bed, left his room, and here he was, greeting this esteemed Duke.
So, Shane sat down, looking through the living room at Barry standing at the door, with a smile that wasn’t quite a smile, "Duke, just speak plainly, no need for such sarcasm."
This response ripped through the pretenses and courtesies, not giving an inch of face to Duke Barry.
Barry remained expressionless, either not caring about such trifles or realizing that Shane was no longer the Adventurer he once could push around, suppressing the emotions in his heart.
However, Duke Barry stepped inside without any courtesy.
The four Knights immediately followed.
But then...
"Bang!"
Suddenly, a loud booming sound erupted, and a burst of Flying Star magic hurled the four Knights out, screaming as they fell in the corridor outside the door.
"You...!?"
Barry’s footsteps halted, and his expression changed drastically, his gaze upon Shane now filled with shock and anger.
Shane, however, kept his smiling demeanor and retracted his hand that was surging with Magic Power.
"My apologies for overstepping," Shane shrugged, "It seems Duke Barry’s attendants don’t quite understand etiquette, stepping into someone else’s parlor during a discussion between Nobles. How rude. I couldn’t help but teach them a lesson on your behalf, Duke. I hope you don’t mind me meddling."
On hearing this, Barry’s face darkened, and his anger rose significantly within.
He knew Shane was showing him up.
Because he had come aggressively, Shane sensed the arrival of uninvited guests, so he decided to forego pleasantries.
To be taught a lesson in his own domain by a Viscount?
This was absolutely the first time in Barry’s life!
Yet frustratingly, Barry could not do anything to Shane.
What could he do?
The Viscount was backed by powerful figures from the Demon Clan; until the nature of both sides’ relationship was clear, who would dare to openly offend him?
