Chapter 366: Is 363 being a bit of a hooligan?
And so, another day passed.
The next day, Shane had just woken up to find not only Lasha standing by the bed but also Jade, who had somehow crawled into his covers at some point and was sound asleep in his arms.
Shane gently touched the girl’s head, handed the neatly-dressed-for-reasons-unknown Jade over to Lasha, and managed to emerge from the covers himself, also fully dressed, and then yawned as he stepped into the living room.
However, as soon as he entered the living room, Shane saw Iris pacing back and forth non-stop.
"What to do... what to do..."
It seemed like Iris was really anxious, unable to calm down, just walking back and forth.
"What’s wrong with her?"
Shane was slightly startled and turned to Lasha with a look of surprise.
"Not sure," Lasha replied indifferently, "Ever since she moved in here, she seems to have been a bit anxious. This morning, she got even worse, and no amount of persuasion would calm her down."
"Even you can’t calm her?" Shane was rather surprised.
After all, since that day, Iris had seemingly become one of Lasha’s die-hard fans, constantly following her around like the maids and servants in the Royal Capital. She displayed a profound fear of him, always on alert and avoiding him while being utterly obedient to Lasha, never disobeying a word.
Especially after witnessing Lasha’s uncanny prowess in household tasks, Iris’s reverence for her had grown daily, trailing behind Lasha wherever she went, nearly sticking to her side.
Shane even wondered if the Foxman Saintess no longer wanted to return, always looking so cheerful.
But now, Lasha was telling him that Iris had actually been feeling anxious all along, and that the anxiety was getting worse. To the point that even Lasha couldn’t console her today. Honestly, Shane was reluctant to believe it.
But it seemed to be the truth.
"Ah!"
Iris suddenly saw Shane entering the living room and cried out before launching herself at him, unlike her usual evasion.
"You... quickly release the magic restraints on me! Hurry up!"
Iris was clutching Shane’s clothes, her face filled with desperation, pleading earnestly.
"What... what’s wrong?"
Shane hadn’t expected the normally tiger-fearing saintess to suddenly jump at him and couldn’t help but be a little slow to react.
On the contrary, Iris seemed to grow more and more anxious.
"I... I don’t know what’s wrong with me." Iris was near frantic with urgency, disturbingly exclaiming, "I just have this feeling that something terrible has happened."
This statement caused Shane to frown.
If it were someone else, they might think Iris was just acting, trying to get her internal magic restraints released with a very poor deception in order to escape, right?
But Shane could tell the anxiety in Iris’s eyes was genuine, as was her urgency, and it didn’t seem like she was bluffing.
Considering Iris was the Saintess of the Beastman Race, she might indeed have some sort of premonition, so Shane didn’t think she was simply putting on a show.
Hence, Shane fell silent for a moment, then reached out and pointed his finger at Iris’s chest.
"Ah!"
Iris screamed out loud.
There was no helping it, Shane’s finger was pointed right at the position of her heart, with precision, fast and hard, striking right at Iris’s weakness.
Shane, seemingly oblivious, began to chant in a low voice,
"Granting and Removing."
Accompanied by such chanting, the Sealing within Iris broke apart as if shattering, disappearing without a trace.
Magic Power began flowing freely through Iris’s body once again.
But Iris showed not even a hint of joy; instead, she hugged herself, crouched down, and was on the verge of tears.
"I was touched... I was touched... by the loathsome man in a place that should not have been touched... Wahhhh!"
Iris cried.
"Uhh..."
Shane, still holding out his pointed finger, seemed only then to realize what he had just felt, his mouth twitching with embarrassment.
Did I just behave like a pervert?
But... the feeling didn’t seem bad?
Shane wanted to recall the feeling just now.
Just then, a chilling gaze fixed upon him, causing him to shudder, no longer daring to reminisce.
"This is harassment, Master."
Lasha said coldly, invoking fear in Shane.
Especially that one word, "Master," which Lasha didn’t usually call him, now suddenly doing so did not please Shane but rather filled him with dread.
Immediately, Shane spoke up,
"Alright... alright, I’ve released the magic restraints on you, now hurry up and tell me exactly what happened."
Shane turned to Iris with a smile more painful than crying.
"Whimper..."
Iris continued to sob but seemed to comprehend Shane’s words, wiping her tears and giving him a resentful look. After a while, she adopted a prayerful pose, closed her eyes, and began to muster her magic power.
"Clang!"
Holy Light emerged from Iris’s body.
Bathed in the Holy Light, Shane realized, only then, that it was the radiance formed from a tremendous Life Force.
Under that light, Iris’s presence began to feel ephemeral, as if merging with the world, or as though she had flown to a distant realm, seeming incredibly mystical.
"Ah!"
After a while, Iris screamed again, opening her eyes to show a pallid face.
"I... I didn’t manage to do anything at all!?"
Startled by Iris’s second scream, Shane blurted out what was on his mind without thinking.
"Mr. Shane..."
Lasha suddenly turned her gaze to Shane, her eyes growing icier by the moment.
"Cough, cough...!"
Shane then realized what was happening, feeling even more embarrassed than before, and wished he could just turn around and flee.
Unfortunately, this time someone else took action before he could.
"Don’t!"
Iris suddenly stood up, her face filled with urgency as she rushed out, leaping directly from the balcony and leaving the inn.
"Hey!"
Shane hadn’t expected Iris to do something so sudden, and he was too slow to react. He hastily rushed to the balcony and looked outside.
But Iris had already disappeared.
Following him out, Lasha seemed to have noticed something, her gaze sharpening.
"Mr. Shane, over there."
Lasha pointed in a certain direction.
Shane looked over and his expression immediately changed.
"What is that?"
Shane exclaimed, astonished.
For in the direction he was looking, a pitch-black gas was undulating like fog and began to spread.
That was...
"An evil aura..."
Lasha’s murmur perfectly summarized the black fog-like gas.
It was something that caused a sense of panic, suffocation, irritability, and unease just by looking at it from afar.
And the direction from which the evil energy emanated seemed to be where the Dark Temple Shane had visited not long ago.
"Could it be that the seal has been broken?"
Shane became filled with doubt.
"No, that’s not right. I haven’t felt the terrifying Magic Power that appeared when the seal was last broken."
If the seal had already been broken, Shane would have definitely felt the magnitude of Magic Power.
It only seemed that the evil energy had appeared now, while the Magic Power was still only flowing out of the Temple.
"What exactly is going on?"
Shane’s complexion changed uncertainly.
Meanwhile, inside Cosmos, unrest seemed to be brewing.
"What... what is that!?"
"What’s going to happen this time!?"
"When will this ever end!?"
The citizens had begun to notice the anomalies one after another, screaming as if on the verge of collapse.
"Quick!"
"Get over there quickly!"
"Hurry up!"
On the streets, the Knights rushed toward the direction of the evil energy, shouting as they ran, looking extremely anxious.
The fortress city of Cosmos plunged into chaos once more, turning the previous sense of oppression and heaviness into a tangible pressure sweeping through every corner and weighing on everyone’s hearts.
Shane watched this scene and then felt someone tugging at his clothes.
He turned around to look behind him.
There, in Lasha’s arms, Jade had woken up, looking at him with an unsettled expression.
"It’s okay."
Shane patted Jade’s head to reassure her while contemplating deeply.
Lasha remained as calm and reserved as ever, just watching Shane, seemingly waiting for his orders.
In such a situation, Shane made a decision.
"I’ll go check it out first," Shane said. "Jade, you stay here, don’t go out. Lasha, keep an eye on things, and if anything goes wrong, immediately wake up Ai Yi."
Upon hearing this, Lasha promptly nodded without any hesitation, agreeing.
Although Jade felt uneasy and anxious, after seeing Shane watching her, she hesitated for a moment and then reluctantly nodded.
"Good girl."
Shane patted Jade’s head again and gave Lasha a nod, then finally turned around.
"Granting·Flying."
The next second, Shane’s body flashed with Magic Light, turning into a streak of light as he flew toward the direction of the evil energy.
Lasha and Jade both watched Shane leave.
"Don’t worry," Lasha was the first to look away, reassuring the worried Jade in her arms with a soft voice. "He is a Hero, protected by the Holy Sword. Not even the powers of the Evil God can disturb his spirit. With his own abilities, nothing will go wrong."
Hearing Lasha’s words, Jade looked back at her, and after a moment, she gently nodded.
Lasha then took Jade back into the living room.
Meanwhile, in Ai Yi’s room, the young girl who had been sleeping soundly suddenly opened her eyes and awoke.
"This is going to be troublesome..."
Ai Yi murmured to herself.
The situation was unfolding in a way that was beyond anyone’s imagination.
