Why must the devil be Defeated?
Chapter 358 - 357 ’Lilith

Chapter 358: 357 ’Lilith

"Poor Shane didn’t know that the nature of the Foxman Saintess before his eyes was essentially that of a ’whining creature.’"

Otherwise, he would have most likely thrown a punch and directly killed this ’whining creature.’

Now, following the whining narrative of this creature, Shane finally understood what the Temple was.

According to Iris, the deity enshrined within the Temple wasn’t the Life Goddess, nor any of the other Goddesses within the current Divine Race, but rather...

"An Evil God?"

Shane froze there.

"Yes." Iris sipped her soup with a wronged expression, eating and speaking reluctantly, "You should know that each Goddess in the Divine Race has her own divine roles, managing one or more attributes, right?"

Shane nodded his head.

This was common knowledge.

"Basically, apart from the all-powerful Supreme God, all members of the Divine Race have their own divine roles and domains."

"They might not be strong individually, but within their roles and domains, they are undoubtedly peerless."

"For example, the Three Great Goddesses, who are at the pinnacle of the Divine Race, control fate, nature, and life, respectively."

So spoke Iris.

"The Goddess of Fate, Lidas, governs fate, possessing the authority to manipulate it. Thus, she has guided many Races, both Human Race and Divine Race, and is truly the God of Fate."

"The Nature Goddess, Nudura, governs nature, possessing the authority to create nature. Whether forests or seas, they were all crafted by this Goddess, making her the God of Nature."

"Life Goddess Anima, on the other hand, is the ruler of life, the mother of myriad lives, possessing the authority to create life. Many Races in the Human Realm, including Humans and Beastmen, were birthed because of this Goddess’s power, thereby making her the God of Life."

"The Goddesses of the Divine Race govern various domains like this, each reaching the pinnacle within their respective fields."

"However, among the many domains, not all roles and attributes are positive."

Iris brought up a point that people often overlook.

"Within the Divine Race, some deities actually possess roles that inspire aversion and fear among mortals."

"Among these, the most famous is a Goddess who governs calamity. Despite being an Upper-level God, she is shunned and avoided by the other Goddesses within the Divine Race."

"In the Divine Race, there are beings such as these Evil Gods, Demon Gods, and they are seen as problem children, with few followers and viewed as troublesome within their own kin."

Shane couldn’t help but reflect on the myths of his past life as Iris spoke.

In those myths, there were also various Evil Gods and such.

They were also Gods, but they were charged with spreading fear and death.

Those who worshipped these Gods were often cultists. Some existed in mythology to establish the concept of ’evil’ to warn mortals and highlight the importance of ’good,’ making their existence necessary.

In other words, not all Gods were benevolent—a fact mentioned in numerous myths from his former world, and it was naturally the same in this world.

Because of the Divine Race’s special status, many saw them as objects of faith and supreme beings, often overlooking the fact that there were evil and ominous individuals among them too.

Shane had subconsciously held this belief until today when Iris reminded him of it.

"How silly of me, how could I forget such a thing?"

Shane couldn’t help but laugh at himself.

Gods vary between good and evil—this was mentioned in countless stories—it’s a trope.

In many stories, the final boss wasn’t some Demon, but a God.

Under such circumstances, it was truly inappropriate to judge good and evil based on Race.

But there was no helping it; that’s how special God’s position was in people’s hearts.

They were not only creators but also synonyms for miracles. People had faith in them, seeing them as spiritual anchorages, and this naturally developed into an innate, or perhaps subconscious, instinct to worship at the sight of a God.

But, in reality, some of the Gods’ committed sins were not at all less heinous than those of members of the Demon Clan.

"Beings like the God of Calamity are actually considered benign despite spreading misfortune, as they can also absorb it; hence, there are still some countries within the Human Race that worship the God of Calamity, in hopes that her power to manipulate misfortune will enable them to turn calamity to fortune and eliminate disasters."

Iris explained this.

"However, there are some Gods who can’t do such things. Their existence itself is a disaster that cannot be worshipped or ignored."

Hearing this, Shane basically understood.

"So, the deity sealed inside that Temple is one such being?"

Shane realized this fact.

"Yes."

Only then did Iris’s expression become somewhat serious, finally carrying the dignity a Holy Daughter should possess, and she spoke with due gravity.

"That is the Demon God who governs evil and chaos—Lilith."

—— "Lilith".

When this name entered Shane’s ears, he couldn’t help but recall that girl.

The girl covered in scars, sealed within the crystal, looking both ferocious and terrifying.

And recalling that girl, Shane turned his head, looking towards the jade figure beside him.

There, Jade sat next to Lasha, watching Iris, who was narrating everything, as silent as ever.

Iris seemed to have long noticed Jade’s gaze, casting her eyes upon him several times, but immediately retracting them.

That manner was as if she harbored some dread or fear.

Shane could understand the expression of the Foxman Saintess.

Because Jade evidently had a deep connection with the sealed Evil God.

Iris told Shane this.

"It is said that among all the Evil Gods and Evil Goddesses, Goddess Lilith stands at the apex."

"Being a goddess who inherently presides over evil and chaos, naturally, there are none among the Evil Gods and Evil Goddesses who can rival her."

"Therefore, although Goddess Lilith is merely an Upper-level God, her power is extremely formidable even among the Divine Race."

After all, unlike the Demon Clan, with its clear delineation between rank and power, the status of the Divine Race is determined by the importance of one’s duties, not by one’s strength.

Some Gods are Upper-level Gods, but their power is even less than that of Lower Grade Gods.

Some Gods are Lower Grade Gods, but their power commands respect even from members of the Upper-level Demon Clan.

Just like the Three Great Goddesses, who are ostensibly on the same level, but among whom only one possesses power of an overwhelming magnitude, unmatched even by Demons, while the powers of the other two, though much stronger than the common beings, are far less than the Demons, as well as their strongest sibling.

In light of this, in the Divine Race, some Gods are indeed esteemed by the Demon Clan and Human Race because of their power.

Once, Luoqi had mentioned a Goddess with whom she had a relatively close relationship to Shane.

"This Goddess is the God of Judgment who oversees justice and order; her duty is to maintain the peace and order of the world, to eradicate evil, and to expel chaos."

"Thanks to this, the Goddess’s strength is tremendous; she is second only to the Three Great Goddesses among the Divine Race, and when she employs her authority, she poses a threat to the Demon Clan even greater than two of the Three Great Goddesses."

"Thus, although the Goddess of Justice is but an Upper-level God, she is regarded as an adversary on the same or even higher level than the Three Great Goddesses in war, having confronted a Ghost Demon among the Six Great Demons, forcing her opponent to fight with all his might."

It was for reasons like these that a thousand years ago, in wartime, the Divine Race was able to unite with the power of the Human Race and confront the Demon Clan.

Otherwise, relying only on the Three Great Goddesses to block the Six Great Demons would indeed have been enormously pressured.

And then...

"The Evil Goddess Lilith is the existence that stands in opposition to the Justice Goddess Artemis," Iris narrated.

"These two Goddesses were born at the same time and are considered by the Demon Clan to be the only two individuals in the Divine Race who do not pale in comparison to the Three Great Goddesses, especially Justice Goddess Artemis. Due to her purview, she is like a natural enemy to the Demon Clan, and speaking purely of effectiveness, her authority restrains the Demon Clan, second only to the Hero’s Holy Sword."

In such circumstances, the fact that the Evil God Lilith could stand equal to such a being revealed how truly terrifying she was.

"There was a time when the Divine Race also hoped to harness the power of Goddess Lilith to counter the Demon Clan," Iris whispered. "If we had the assistance of Lilith, powerful enough to rival Artemis and the Three Great Goddesses, I believe the Divine Race would not have been at such a disadvantage against the Demon Clan."

Sadly, this was wishful thinking.

"Being not only an entity in control of evil but also chaos, Goddess Lilith has been in a state of uncontrol since the moment of her birth."

Iris revealed such an important secret that could not be overlooked.

"Due to her nature, this Evil God, at the moment of her birth, instinctively stripped away her own reason and cast it out, plunging completely into uncontrol and bringing many disasters upon the world."

Such an existence, of course, could not be left unchecked by the Divine Race.

So...

"A very long time ago, so long ago that the Human Race had not yet come into being, the Three Great Goddesses joined forces to seal the Evil God Lilith, and banished her temple into a rift in the world unreachable by any, to be imprisoned forever."

Iris’s voice suddenly became heavy.

"However, a thousand years ago, this situation changed."

Why?

The reason was simple.

"Because the war a thousand years ago split the world into three parts?"

Shane voiced the reason.

"That’s correct," Iris nodded, confirming Shane’s statement, "Because the world was split into three parts, the cosmic rift opened, and the Dark Temple that sealed the Evil God Lilith broke away from the rift, ultimately falling into the Human Realm."

And so, the location where this Dark Temple fell was about to become evident.

"It is here, Cosmos."
