Chapter 463: Chapter 454: The First Visitor

In the early morning, the phone started vibrating and the alarm went off.

Nan Zhubin opened his eyes at the second ring and reached out to press the switch.

Last night, he practiced multiple-choice exercises until late without using the [Flow] and [Memory Palace], to train his thinking skills, right before bedtime when the brain was most exhausted.

He also didn’t use the [Emotion Rebalancing] debuff to aid sleep; as soon as he hit the pillow, he was out.

Nan Zhubin’s biological clock was very regular.

Getting up and washing up, Nan Zhubin just felt a rush of clarity and full of energy, eager with anticipation for the new day.

Opening the door, he saw Chonghui tidying up.

"Up so early, junior brother? Oh right, you have a consultation today..." Thinking of Nan Zhubin’s schedule for today, Chonghui hesitated, then refrained from saying anything further.

Nan Zhubin smiled and greeted, "Senior brother, leaving so early today, huh? By the way, I didn’t see you when I came back last night."

Chonghui looked exhausted: "I went to deal with data in the research group after the consultation yesterday; it ended by almost midnight... papers..."

As he talked, his fatigue almost seeped through his words. Nan Zhubin listened with a smile, attentively to his tall senior brother’s complaints.

Then he heard Chonghui say, "Speaking of which, you’ve been here several days and still haven’t checked out the office... never mind, you’re probably busy today, I’ll head out first."

"Alright." Nan Zhubin smiled as he bid farewell.

Gathering his things and going downstairs, Mo Kai, who already had a car despite his young age, was idly waiting downstairs with a car plate that began with [North].

Though it was the first time riding in Mo Kai’s car, Nan Zhubin skillfully opened the passenger door and took the breakfast offered.

The breakfast was simple: a packed lean meat and century egg congee in a plastic cup with a straw, and two buns—one with vegetables, the other with stewed meat.

"From the canteen?"

Mo Kai started the car and nodded succinctly: "Yes."

Nan Zhubin took a bite of the stewed meat bun, sipped the congee, and nodded: "I think I’ll grow to like the school canteen."

The car’s air conditioning drove out the heat rising since early morning. As usual, they passed through the basement, took the elevator, and arrived at the company’s lobby, without breaking a sweat all the way.

The front desk attendants seemed well-prepared. Upon seeing Nan Zhubin, their early-morning fatigue instantly vanished.

Receptionist Shanshan still had her hand under the desk, seemingly ready for something.

"Morning, Teacher Nan. Had breakfast?"

"Had it already. You’re early too." Nan Zhubin nodded with a standard social smile and headed straight to the office area.

"Morning." Mo Kai nodded at the slightly deflated receptionist and followed Nan Zhubin inside.

The assistant detoured to their workstation, pulled out a pre-prepared folder from the book holder, and handed it to Nan Zhubin.

Nan Zhubin’s expression remained unchanged, but a sense of joy inexplicably showed in his demeanor. He took the materials, straightforwardly returned to his seat, checked them against the notes he had prepared yesterday, and then placed a few blank A4 sheets into the folder, heading to an empty consultation room.

Consultants were not required to be on-site unless they had consultations. Although the consultants here were motivated, only a few opted for early morning consultations.

Thus, the office area was largely empty, with only assistants organizing materials.

Seeing Nan Zhubin’s figure disappear into the office area, the assistant with the surname Huang brought a few nearby consultation assistants to chat with Mo Kai.

"Little Mo, up so early." The assistant with the surname Huang greeted, "How many consultations have you arranged for Teacher Xiao Nan today?"

"Eight."

The assistant with the surname Huang gasped: "Wow... you’re serious? Not afraid of exhausting him?"

They had worked here for so long and had never seen any consultant take on such an extreme workload.

Mo Kai calmly replied: "If senior brother requests it, he must have his reasons. I just follow along."

This response made the assistants feel a bit uneasy. They exchanged glances, as if asking, "Do any of you trust your consultant this much?"

Upon mutual confirmation—none.

Just as they were about to say something, Mo Kai had already organized the documents and stood up: "The first visitor is about to arrive, I’ll instruct the front desk."

Mo Kai felt a bit nervous too; strictly speaking, this was his first visitor following formal procedures.

Now, this was the first step of normal work.

The young man’s figure quickly disappeared from sight, followed by another assistant hurriedly entering the office area. Upon confirming he wasn’t late on the clock, this assistant smoothly joined the gossip group of the assistant with the surname Huang.

"Hey, a red Ferrari I’ve never seen before is parked in our company’s lot. Do you know whose it is?"

The assistant with the surname Huang nodded towards the door: "Who else could it be? The one who just left."

The newly arrived assistant quickly lost interest: "Why is this rich second generation here as an assistant?"

The assistant with the surname Huang chuckled: "I talked to him yesterday. He said something like ’family background can reduce obstacles at life’s corners, but it can’t always push me directly through these corners, people must rely on themselves.’ In essence, he’s just too young, thinking hard work..."

The gossip group burst into a vague laughter, which soon transitioned into the same uninterested tone.

The assistant with the surname Huang smacked their lips: "You tell me, what exactly has the boss’s little protégé done to make Little Mo so obedient? Isn’t a rich second generation supposed to have eyes on the top of their head?"

The "boss’s little protégé" referred to Nan Zhubin, even though Mo Kai also called him senior brother, but in the company’s eyes, Mo Kai was just a "student." There were many other "students" with the same status in the company.

Another assistant retorted: "Well, that’s not quite true; Little Mo is quite capable."

Within just a few days, the assistants present had more or less been treated to coffee or milk tea, the kind that cost as much as a day or two of living expenses for ordinary folks.

Feeling beholden, the assistant with the surname Huang soon changed the topic: "The boss’s little protégé took on eight consultations today; how many do you think he can handle?"

The assistant with the surname Huang’s new topic ignited a discussion. The assistants all wanted to place bets but promptly held their tongues.

Because they realized... it’s really hard to say?

...

Nan Zhubin was unaware of the assistants’ discussions outside, and even if he knew, he wouldn’t care.

He focused on adjusting his state of mind.

Soon, there was a knock on the door.

"Please come in."

The door opened, and today’s first visitor arrived.
