Who Let Him Play Yu-Gi-Oh!
Chapter 250: Unknown Opponent

Chapter 250: Chapter 250: Unknown Opponent

Kira narrowed his eyes.

Just as he thought, this strange situation was caused by some supernatural ability—and the opponent seemed quite skilled.

The Silent Magician floated out, a bit worried, standing guard beside him.

"You can tell this one isn’t normal, huh?" Kira nodded. "I get it, don’t worry."

He’d come with the president to find duels, and maybe acquire some new cards. Plus, the opponent’s duel disk was unique—he hadn’t seen it before, and their deck might have good cards.

"Let’s go."

Kira activated his duel disk.

"The sooner we start, the sooner we finish."

"Oh? Not nervous, and so confident," the masked person smiled. "Confidence is good for young people, but do you have the skill to match?"

The implication was clear: we’ll see.

"Duel!" x2

[Kira, LP 4000]

[Masked Person, LP 4000]

"I’ll go first. Draw."

Kira drew two cards.

"I set a monster face-down, and a card in my backrow. Turn end."

"My turn. Draw," the masked person rasped. "First, I activate ’Pot of Greed’ to draw two cards."

After drawing, he immediately played another card from his hand.

"Spell Card ’Graceful Charity’—draw three cards, then discard two."

Kira raised his eyebrows.

Pot of Greed and Graceful Charity were staples in the GX era, but opening with two forbidden cards was rare.

"Quick-Play Spell ’Toy Robot Box’! Discard a card to Special Summon three ’Robot Tokens’!" (Anime card)

He discarded one card; three toy-like robots appeared on his field.

[Robot Token, DEF 0]

"These tokens can’t attack, but they can be used as tributes," the masked person said coldly. "I tribute two tokens to Tribute Summon!

Source of chaos, demon of disaster—

Annihilator Archfiend, Summon!"

The two tokens dissolved into light, dark clouds covered the sky, a storm howled, and magma and black smoke erupted from cracks in the earth. A tall, dark demon, armored in hard scales, rose from below, hellfire burning in its eyes.

[Annihilator Archfiend, ATK 2000]

"Annihilator Archfiend’s effect: Once per turn, destroy one card on each side of the field," the masked person declared. "I destroy my third token and your set card."

The demon roared, black flames swirling and consuming his last token and Kira’s set card, which was burned to ash—

[Trap Card: Magic Cylinder.]

Kira raised his arm to shield himself from the blast.

"Magic Cylinder, huh? If I attacked recklessly, I’d take massive damage," the masked person said calmly, showing another card. "Spell Card ’Shield Crush’—destroy your set monster."

A green flash of magic destroyed the face-down monster—Magical Merchant.

"A flip-effect monster. If attacked, it would have triggered its effect," the masked person observed. "Stacking graveyard resources and imprecise sifting for spells/traps—quite troublesome."

"Not bad," Kira nodded.

"I’m not like those third-rate opponents you’re used to. If you treat me as such, you’ll pay for it."

The masked person casually waved.

"Annihilator Archfiend, direct attack."

The demon leaped over Kira’s empty field, its claws struck home. Kira raised his duel disk in defense, the impact knocking him back.

[Kira, LP 4000 → LP 2000]

"Hmm?" Kira noticed something.

That pain...

Wasn’t as bad as he expected?

It felt like normal duel damage, not the intense pain of a shadow duel.

But the opponent should have strong dark powers—the Silent Magician had warned him.

Maybe this wasn’t a shadow game after all.

"I warned you," the masked person said coolly. "If you don’t get serious, you’ll be knocked out instantly."

Kira smiled.

"Maybe. But why do you think clearing my monsters and backrow means you’ve broken my setup?"

"Oh?"

The masked person frowned, then saw a shadow appear on Kira’s empty field.

An eerie, unsettling shadow wriggled on the ground, then rose, twisting unnaturally into a human shape—finally becoming a warrior with a blade.

"Effect of ’Gorz the Emissary of Darkness’ from my hand," Kira revealed a card. "If I take battle damage while I control no cards, I can Special Summon Gorz and a ’Emissary of Darkness Token’—the token’s ATK and DEF equal to the damage I took."

[Gorz the Emissary of Darkness, ATK 2700]

[Emissary of Darkness Token, ATK 2000]

This was the card Yugi used in the side manga, and once it was printed, it shook the meta—nearly every deck ran it. If your opponent ended with an empty field, you had to assume they had Gorz or risk a huge counterattack. Sometimes players would even bluff an empty field to fake having Gorz.

That’s why Gorz was semi-limited or limited for years.

"So you held onto your real trump card. I underestimated you," the masked person chuckled, still sounding odd through the voice changer.

"I set a card. Turn end."
