Chapter 67 Eating, and Why the Monk Was There

Chapter 67: Chapter 67 Eating, and Why the Monk Was There

"Senior Brother! Under the table!"

Zhang Ze bent down and saw that Li had somehow sneaked out and was hiding under the table eating something.

Upon being discovered, Li blinked her innocent little eyes at Zhang Ze, the food in her mouth crunching audibly.

In her hand was half of a magic mirror.

"Want some? It’s quite crispy," Li said, extending the half-eaten magic mirror to Zhang Ze.

The magic mirror was only half remaining, and the edges were covered in teeth marks, completely ruined.

Zhang Ze took the magic mirror, "Junior Sister, how much is this thing worth?"

Chen Qin thought for a moment, "I can’t quite remember, maybe around fifty thousand Spirit Stones."

Zhang Ze did the math and realized he couldn’t afford to pay it back even if he sold himself.

Zhang Ze pulled Li out from under the table.

"And the ring?"

"Here it is, haven’t eaten it yet."

Zhang Ze breathed a sigh of relief and quickly took the ring.

"What about the Jade Sword?"

"Swallowed it."

"Why?" Zhang Ze was completely baffled.

"I was hungry."

"That magic mirror is worth at least fifty thousand Spirit Stones! My gosh," Zhang Ze squatted down, rubbing his temples, "Do you even know what a Spirit Stone is..."

After Zhang Ze finished explaining, Li looked at him with a skeptical expression.

"Stop fooling me, how could something made of red iron be so expensive?"

"I remember back in the day these things were everywhere and worthless, even you humans used these iron bowls for eating."

"What year are you talking about?" Zhang Ze asked.

"I don’t remember, but it was back when I could still fly."

Chen Qin thought for a moment and spoke up.

"The ancient name for Red Sky Refined Gold is indeed red iron."

"It’s said that during ancient times it was everywhere, but now most of the veins have been exhausted, and currently, a pound of raw ore costs twenty thousand Spirit Stones, non-negotiable."

"So what Li refers to as ’back in the day’ should be the Primordial era."

Chen Qin, well-informed, supplemented with precise and merciless accuracy.

"I see, so this stuff’s really expensive nowadays, hahaha..." Li scratched her head awkwardly.

"I was just too hungry earlier, next time I promise not to do it—before eating anything, I’ll give you a heads up."

"You’re thinking of a next time?" Zhang Ze took a sharp breath.

If this keeps happening at fifty thousand a pop a few more times, let alone having a system, Zhang Ze felt he wouldn’t be able to afford to feed this short and stout dragon even if he went to Chen Qin’s home as a freeloader.

"It’s just that I just woke up and am a bit groggy still."

"Next time, I really won’t eat things randomly."

Li’s memory was muddled, often unclear about things from the Primordial era.

The things she remembered were simply that she could fly back then, what tasted good, and what could be eaten.

Originally meant as an apology, Li ended up listing various heavenly materials and earthly treasures as if chanting a menu.

Zhang Ze listened and realized none of them were cheap.

Most alarming was that the more Li recited, the more hungry she got.

"Can’t we eat something cheap instead?" Zhang Ze looked at Li’s drooling mouth and took the handkerchief Chen Qin handed over to wipe her mouth.

"We could, but I’m drooling here."

"Just think, back in the day I wouldn’t eat people, but I gobbled up the sky and earth."

"I remember lying on Guixu drinking water, taking bites of the Divine Mountain."

"Things like Dragon Wood and Sword Wood were just snacks, the best tasting was still the Coral Divine Tree, that taste was so fragrant..."

"The rocks of the Divine Palace in the northern mountains were tasty too, crunchy like a cracker, paired with water from the Reversed Sea, simply delightful."

The first few weren’t too surprising, but Zhang Ze had never even heard of the latter—Coral Divine Tree, Heavenly Palace Stone, or Reversed Sea.

Apparently, these were innate secret treasures that disappeared in the Primordial era.

Listening to Li’s rather fantastical gourmet reviews, Zhang Ze suddenly remembered something.

"Hey, Li. Do you remember how you died back then?"

Li slurped her drool, scratched her head, "Forgot, really can’t remember that.."

"I have a guess," Zhang Ze said.

"Do tell," Li was a bit curious.

"I suspect you ate too much and were then beaten to death by a coalition of those Innate Gods and Demons."

"I even suspect that you have to bear some responsibility for the current rarity of heavenly materials and earthly treasures."

Li listened, stayed silent for a while, and then said, "It seems not impossible..."

The matter of compensating for the magic mirror would have to be addressed later; the pressing concern now was to find Aunt Niao.

Luckily, the ring was still present, so the guidance wouldn’t be lost.

Zhang Ze was just about to stand up with the half-broken magic mirror when Li tugged at his pants again.

"Hey, since it’s already broken, can I finish the other half?"

"I told you to hold on a second, what’s the rush, listen to the elder first."

After settling Zhang Ze down, Li took a few steps back and made a stance as if preparing for action.

Then she took a deep breath and exhaled a burst of Purple Thunder into an empty space.

Though the Purple Thunder wasn’t very strong, the aura it emitted was seventy percent similar to Elder Wang.

Li coughed twice, spitting out the remnants of the Purple Thunder from her mouth.

"Consider this one of my divine techniques."

"I seem to be able to mimic the abilities of magical artifacts I swallow."

"But for attack types like this, the power is only at Foundation Establishment level."

"It’s not really my fault; after all, with our spiritual connection, whatever your cultivation level is, mine will be too."

"But for support types, not to boast, I think I can emulate them pretty accurately."

"So can I eat that other half too, and you’ll treat me as the mirror?"

"If it doesn’t work, you can just sell me; I’m certainly worth more than that mirror."

Zhang Ze turned to look at his junior sister; after all, the magic mirror belonged to her family.

Plus, even half a mirror had considerable value.

The materials obtained by melting it down could be used to craft several new magical artifacts.

Throwing it out would definitely incite a fierce scramble among loose cultivators.

But Chen Qin seemed unconcerned, most likely too wealthy to bother with mere Spirit Stones; curiosity was more precious.

"Just eat it, it’s just a mirror."

Given permission, Li took the half-broken mirror Zhang Ze handed over, swallowed it in a few bites, savoring the taste of the magic mirror.

Li closed her eyes and used the first power of the magic mirror.

Illuminate all directions.

Li lit up the whole dragon capital, but that was it.

Whether it could suppress evil, Zhang Ze wasn’t sure, but it was definitely flashy enough to work as a stun grenade in A1.

Li seemed to find it a bit boring too, so she dimmed the brightness and prepared to use the second power.

"What to divine?" Li asked.

"Tell something about Aunt Niao," Zhang Ze thought it was the most pressing issue at hand.

Li, however, did not immediately use her divine technique and instead held out a small hand to Zhang Ze.

"What’s up?" Zhang Ze asked.

"Fortune-telling, lend me that ring, the jade box, and jade pendant; how can I divine without related items?"

"Promise not to eat them," Zhang Ze said before taking the items out of the Hundred Treasures Bag and handing them to Li.

Li sat on the ground, scratching her head as she stared at the objects in front of her, probably trying to get into the right mood.

Soon, spiritual qi enveloped the ring and the jade box in front of her, the qi gradually solidified into a mirror surface.

The reflection first showed the landscape near Five Rams Slope, then an old Taoist temple.

Finally, it depicted a bald head.

Zhang Ze raised an eyebrow; he recognized the bald head—it belonged to the little monk who had given him guidance that morning.

"What’s he doing here?"
