When the Wild Beast is Trapped in the Nightmare Cycle (BL) -
Chapter 634: Easy Way Out
Chapter 634: Easy Way Out
A pensive look crossed Shen Nianzu’s face. "So we have two groups of people with the same goal? Interesting..." he mused.
"The same goal?" Both Jin Jiuchi and Gu Luoxin echoed in unison, only to throw a stinky look at each other through the screen. Even their actions were in sync.
Shen Nianzu gave a nod. "Yes, thinking about it now, if Young Master Ares’ death was discovered right before the betrothal ceremony, the immediate suspects would be the sirens and the humans. And then, if the picture of Prince Kaivia’s tragic death happened to spread at the same time..."
Gu Luoxin smacked his palm in sudden realization. "The sirens would think that the humans and garudas were colluding to suppress them! No matter who the real culprit was, the seed of doubt would have been planted, and the three main territories would start turning on each other!"
"Xinxin is correct," Shen Nianzu cast him an approving look. "In a situation like that, war between humans, garudas, and sirens would break out sooner or later. I reckon this must be the Cycle’s fixed plotline. It’s just that Xinxin happened to receive the role of Ares’ doppelganger, and with Noir’s timely assistance, you managed to pass the crisis smoothly, allowing the garudas to slip away unscathed for the time being. But this status quo will most likely change soon. Once the culprit realizes that ’Young Master Ares’ is still alive, they will definitely come after you."
Speaking until this point, his exquisite face grew somber with concern. "Xinxin, you—"
Gu Luoxin knew what he was going to say and preempted him, patting his own chest with confidence. "Don’t worry, Xiao Shen. I will definitely act carefully!"
He couldn’t help but feel bad, making Shen Nianzu worry about him all the time. Although such concern warmed his heart, the guilt was slowly gnawing at him from within. Alas, he was also aware that there’s not much he could do to help—but at the very least, he didn’t want to be a burden. Gu Luoxin hated to be a burden the most! He wanted to be seen as strong, capable and independent, especially to people he cared about like his uncle, Noir, and now his teammates. He refused to become an inconvenience that would hold them back!
And so, he put on a brave front and reassured the silver-haired man—as well as himself:
"I have the healing prop and life-saving prop with me. They’re enough to last me for a while. And if I encounter something I can’t handle, I will definitely send an SOS signal to you!"
"You must," Shen Nianzu stressed, but otherwise the frown on his face had eased, which relieved Gu Luoxin immensely.
"What are you two doing now?" he asked, curious.
"We are going to scout around the land for two hours at most before heading to the garuda territory. Remember the wasteland we saw in Sword of Heaven’s last video?"
"Oh...!" Gu Luoxin nearly smacked himself silly. How could he have forgotten this? The very reason why they entered this Cycle was to chase after the clues Grandpa Song had left behind pertaining to the Nightmare’s weakness! Gu Luoxin could not believe that such an important thing had almost slipped from his mind after everything he had gone through these past two days!
"I remember, I remember," he nodded rapidly like chicken pecking rice. "Are you going to search for the exact location, Xiao Shen?"
"That’s right," Shen Nianzu replied. "In the footage, even the sky was cracked open, so I find it quite unbelievable that there are no clues there. But so far, I haven’t found the correlation between this Cycle’s plotline and the Nightmare’s weakness. There are also a few keywords Sword of Heaven left us, which we haven’t figured out yet. Since our time is running out, it’s best we search the area before nightfall."
Gu Luoxin couldn’t agree more with Shen Nianzu’s well-thought plan. As expected of the Big Boss, he had considered everything thoroughly and never lost sight of their original goal! Had it been only Jin Jiuchi and Gu Luoxin thrown in here, they would have run around blindly like a flock of headless chickens!
Awe and admiration shone forth from Gu Luoxin’s eyes. "Ah, I really want to join you two..." he lamented in regret.
A faint smile touched Shen Nianzu’s eyes. "Be good and stay there. In the future, there will be time for you to shine. You’re already quite a powerful player, Xinxin. But for now, all you have to do is keep yourself safe. Got it?"
"Okay..." Gu Luoxin had no choice but to comply no matter how much he wished to climb through the screen to reach his teammates on the other side. After a few more safety cautions (from Shen Nianzu) and uplifting jest (from Jin Jiuchi), they ended the call, and Gu Luoxin was once again left alone by his lonesome.
"Geez, Xiao Shen is such a worrywart..." he grumbled under his breath.
Compared to others who had to run around the city and even got dragged into the war, he was practically receiving princess treatment here! He never lacked food or clothing, and all he had to do was serve a quiet and introverted Young Master (who was now deceased)!
Sure, the notion of the real culprit targeting his life kinda creeped him out, but Gu Luoxin had considered a way out clearly. All he had to do was don the servant outfit and put a garuda mask on his face and—voilà!—he could easily blend in with countless other servants in this mansion, leaving no way for the culprit to find him!
The more Gu Luoxin thought about it, the more he felt like he had gotten the easy way out.
He had even considered becoming a double agent to relay sensitive military intel for Noir, but with Shen Nianzu’s endless precautions, he had to regretfully give up such a risky endeavor.
Just then, a knock sounded outside the door, "Young Master."
Gu Luoxin hurriedly got up and put away his earpiece. It was fortunate that he had changed back into Young Master Ares’ everyday clothes, or else he would have panicked for real by now. Taking a couple of deep breaths, he told himself again and again ’I am Ares, I am Ares right now...’ and put on a light, elegant smile on his face as he opened the door, "What is it..."
His pupils dilated sharply at the sight of the person standing outside.
No way, the voice calling for him just now belonged to a woman, so how could he—?!
"Good evening, Young Master Ares. There’s something I’d like your help with."
There was no time for Gu Luoxin to react, not even to activate the life-saving prop. The doctor’s courteous smile was the last thing he saw before his vision abruptly turned black.
