Chapter 533: Bloody Battle
"Xiao Shen!" Gu Luoxin abruptly shot up to his feet, his breathing quickened in pace. "Should we—"
"Sit down." Shen Nianzu shot him down without even raising his head. He was still warming his hands around the fire, his tone light and nonchalant as he analyzed the situation, "It’s too far away. Players around that area must be heading there as well. What follows will be a vicious fight. We won’t make it in time even if we run at our top speed. It’s still better to preserve our energy for now."
Gu Luoxin’s heated blood had barely boiled before it cooled down with each word Shen Nianzu spoke. He plopped down once more, tugging at his bangs with a sheepish look. "You’re right... we should just focus on finding the revival potion for Da Shen."
Compared to the lure of the main rewards, their teammate’s life was many times more important!
But after he said that, he couldn’t help but worry again.
How was Jin Jiuchi faring on the other side? Would he be able to secure the main reward there?
A hushed silence enveloped the duo as they got lost in their own thoughts, only accompanied by the soft crackling sounds from the fire.
However, it wasn’t so peaceful on the other side of the forest.
Just like Shen Nianzu had predicted, a bloody battle was going on in full swing. The first one to discover the main reward was a mere Intermediate player. It had been out of sheer luck, just like a blind cat stumbling upon a dead mouse. Otherwise with their current strength, how could they have been able to secure this ticket which was coveted by countless others?
Unfortunately, they hadn’t even had the chance to fully savor the thrill and excitement when they abruptly stilled, the smile freezing on their face.
In the next second, their head separated from their body and rolled across the ground, the cut so clean and neat as though severed by an extremely sharp blade. A fountain of warm blood burst out of the stump on the neck as the body collapsed lifelessly to the ground, staining the golden ticket and the opened supply box in a swathe of crimson.
A pair of feet silently approached, stepping across the wet soil, and picked up the ticket.
With a flick of his hand, the blood was flung off and the golden ticket became as good as new once more, even emitting a faint luster. The newcomer knew very well that he must not remain here any longer, thus he tucked the ticket deep inside his lapel and turned away in haste, all the while cursing the cheerful celebratory song and fireworks show above his head.
Alas, he had barely taken a few steps when a female voice barked out sternly from behind,
"Stop right there! Hand over the ticket if you don’t want to die!"
Without even stopping or turning his head, the man – none other than the ninja-look-alike player who had survived the elimination game with the SJG trio – tossed out something toward the direction of the voice with a powerful swing of his arm. They cut through the air with a faint whistle, the vibrant splendor of the fireworks reflecting the shiny gleam of the sharp blades.
Cursing out a loud ’fuck!’, the female player ducked just in time for three shurikens to plant themselves deep into the tree trunk behind her. One of them had aimed squarely at her forehead, while the other two were directed at her neck where the major artery was. Due to the force in which they were thrown, the exposed shurikens continued to vibrate for a good few seconds before coming to a stop.
If she hadn’t dodged in time, she would have become a bloody sieve— or worse, her head would have been directly decapitated like the poor corpse nearby!
She sucked in cold air, her heart still galloping furiously from this close brush to death.
When she turned back again, unsurprisingly, the other player had vanished without a trace.
Meanwhile, the ninja-look-alike player continued to sprint across the foggy forest so quickly that his feet barely touched the ground, the scenery around him dissolving into a blur. Even then, he was still intercepted midway, forcing him to come to a halt.
A faint silhouette emerged from the mist, followed by a hostile voice, "You’re the one who got the ticket, aren’t you?"
Clicking his tongue impatiently, the ninja player rapidly scanned his surroundings, intending to make his escape first and foremost. But much to his chagrin, he discovered more and more players closing in on him from all directions, their greedy and unfriendly gazes boring holes into him.
It was too late to escape— he was surrounded.
"Sigh..." a heavy exhale laced with resignation slipped through his lips which was covered by a black mask. He stood still, no longer bothering to flee. Instead, he flipped his palm upward and a katana materialized in a blink of an eye. With one swift motion, he unsheathed it and tossed away the scabbard, revealing a long, polished blade marred with faint streaks of dried blood. It was unknown how many lives had perished under this deadly weapon.
Shifting his stance, he let the katana slice through the air in a graceful arc before gripping it firmly with both hands, keeping it on his eye level. His cold eyes narrowed slightly as he challenged in a low, muffled voice,
"Come."
All at once, the surrounding players pounced on him with their own weapons brandished.

Noir laid down with his head cushioned on his arm, a blade of grass dangling on the corner of his mouth. Once in a while, he tossed a dry branch to the fire to keep it burning, but otherwise he had nothing to do. It’s not like he could spot any stars either, for the tall and dense canopy of trees nearly blocked the sky above. Only Jin Jiuchi’s dead body remained around him, his wide open eyes staring at him eerily.
And oh, a black cat as well.
"I’m bored," Noir yawned, tears squeezing out of his eyes.
"Meow." Lucius replied from where it was cleaning the fur on its hind legs.
Noir pondered for a while before suggesting with a dead serious expression, "Why don’t you try stepping over him and see if he will come back to life?"
"Mrooww!" Lucius hissed at him, the fur on its back and tail bristling.
Noir tutted, turning over to show his back to the black cat. "I’d do it if I were you," he mumbled under his breath.
"Meowmeowmreooo—"
"Give it up," Noir replied lazily without turning around. "He’s gone with his leader to search for a revival potion. You won’t be able to see him for... hmm, at least four to five hours."
"MROOWW!" Enraged at the provocation, Lucius leapt across the air and kicked him squarely on the back of his head before stepping on his face a few times for good measure. Noir did not deign to open his eyes as he accurately grabbed the black cat and flung it into a far distance, sending it flying in midair before rolling down the slope.
When Lucius made its way back, huffing and puffing, its once glossy coat now dirtied and tangled with grass, it saw Noir crouching before Jin Jiuchi’s body doing God-knows-what. Its heart abruptly skipped a beat, filled with an ominous dread. And sure enough, when it rushed over, it caught this bored man moulding a ball of soil with his hands before stuffing it... into the corpse’s mouth.

"What?" Noir asked remorselessly upon noticing its nonplussed gaze.
