Chapter 494: First Supply Box
Chapter 494: First Supply Box
Jin Jiuchi gave his steering toggles a powerful tug, forcibly guiding himself toward the supply box nestled amid the bushes near the stream. Before he could even land, however, two figures leaped down from the nearby tree, having concealed themselves in the lush leaves.
They lunged at Jin Jiuchi, brandishing their sharp dagger, "Quick, take him out before the others land!" they hissed.
"Da Shen!" Shen Nianzu’s pupils dilated sharply, alarm etched on his features.
Oh no, it’s an ambush!
Still suspended in midair, Shen Nianzu clenched his jaws, freed one hand, and made a swiping gesture at their enemies. Following his movement, the water in the stream surged and splashed at the men right on their faces, catching them off guard.
"W–Wha—" one of them sputtered in disbelief. "How did he activate his skill card?!"
"Skill card?" Jin Jiuchi barked out a mocking laugh as his feet touched the ground. With the live bird still clutched in his hand, he raised his other fist high and delivered a solid punch to one of the men, sending him flying several meters away. "As if something like that can stop my Nian’er!"
The remaining man stood frozen, stunned. Jin Jiuchi whipped his head toward him and released a deep snarl that definitely did not sound humane from his throat, his features contorting and twisting into something else. The intensity of that sound alone was enough to send nearby birds and small animals fleeing in terror, the leaves rustling with their panicked flight. Meanwhile, the man was so scared that he tumbled to the ground, gaping at Jin Jiuchi in sheer horror as though he had seen a ghost.
Driven by a surge of survival instinct, he desperately scrambled away, his voice trembling as he cried out, "C–Cheating! They’re cheating!!!"
Jin Jiuchi snorted, his face now returned to its normal state. "Ha, what a weakling! Wait, should I have killed them all?" he wondered.
As he was distracted moments before touching the ground, Shen Nianzu’s short and chubby feet failed to gain a proper footing, and he ended up falling flat on the forest floor like a little pancake, the wide canopy engulfing him from above.
Shen Nianzu: "..."
"Xiao Shen!" Gu Luoxin cried out from where he was suspended with his feet dangling in midair, his parachute caught between two trees.
"Hahahaha!" Jin Jiuchi was almost breathless from laughing, his stomach cramping in pain. He swiftly unstrapped his harness and rushed over to Shen Nianzu, tearing the canopy away and retrieving his little sulky jade doll from beneath. "Look at you– pfft!" Shen Nianzu’s cheeks were smudged with dirt, with errant strands of hair escaping his ponytail to frame his small face in disarray. But fortunately, he did not sustain any injuries.
"You still dared to laugh?!" Shen Nianzu smacked Jin Jiuchi’s shoulder indignantly, his cheeks flushed with heat. "Who’s the one who has to save your ass?! Also, until when are you going to hold onto that damned chicken?"
Jin Jiuchi wanted to correct him saying that it was a bird, not a chicken, but something told him that it would enrage Shen Nianzu further, so he sensibly held himself back. "My bad, my bad... kekeke..." Still trying to suppress the laughter, Jin Jiuchi leaned in and licked the dirt off the jade doll’s cheek, a mischievous smirk tugging on his lips in response to Shen Nianzu’s widened eyes.
"You... put me down!" Shen Nianzu demanded with a fierce snarl. "Why would you lick me when there’s a stream right there, you dumb husky?!"
"Um..." With an expression as though he had nothing left to live for, Gu Luoxin interrupted the lovebirds’ banter, still stuck between the trees. "May I ask for some help? I couldn’t seem to free myself..."
Five minutes later, the trio stood, staring down at the supply box before them. It was made of unknown black metal material, just like the image shown by the bus officer earlier, with the only color being the red button on the top.
Red button – meaning there would either be potions, weapons, or ammunition inside.
"What are the chances we will find revival potions on our first try?" Gu Luoxin asked, gulping nervously.
"Should I open it?" Jin Jiuchi’s eyes shone in eagerness and excitement.
"Go on," Shen Nianzu nodded in approval. For some reason, luck had always been on Jin Jiuchi’s side inside the Cycle. If he was offered a basket with one fresh apple and nine spoiled ones, he could simply reach out blind and still choose the fresh one. Of course, it was only a metaphor and had nothing to do with the man’s keen nose.
"Alright, hold our dinner, Xinxin!" Jin Jiuchi handed the bird over to Gu Luoxin, who accepted it albeit with a disgusted expression on his face. Blowing hot air into his palms, Jin Jiuchi then rubbed his hands and pressed on the button with flourish.
The lid opened with an almost inaudible click, causing the trio to hold their breath in anticipation.
When it swung open, they found themselves staring at a small rack holding five bubbly green colored potions, which looked extremely dubious. "What is this?" Curious, Jin Jiuchi picked one up and discovered a label plastered on the tube. "Strength potion? Boo, what’s the use of this trash?" his shoulders slumped in an instant, disappointment lacing his tone.
"What do you mean by trash?!" Gu Luoxin protested, snatching the potion from Jin Jiuchi. "This is very important for when we get tired later on, okay?!"
"Xinxin is right." Shen Nianzu decided, "Let’s keep these potions with us. They will definitely be useful later." Fortunately, despite not being able to use their prop, they could still access the storage, making it easier for them to save the potions. With that settled, Shen Nianzu promptly urged, "Let’s go. We must find as many supply boxes as possible before the hour is up. Or else it will be a bloody battlefield from here on."
Shen Nianzu chose a random path based on his instinct and began to lead the way, Gu Luoxin following close behind him. But before they could move far, they discovered that Jin Jiuchi had not budged from his spot.
"Da Shen?"
With a shit-eating grin, Jin Jiuchi picked up the empty supply box. "What are you doing with—" Shen Nianzu began to ask, only to stop when Jin Jiuchi leaned in to sniff the box, taking in its scent like a trained police dog. After a moment, he dropped the box and sniffed around the air before confidently pointing in a certain direction, "There!"
Both Shen Nianzu and Gu Luoxin were stunned for a brief second before their eyes brightened up in realization, and they flashed Jin Jiuchi a thumbs-up.
How could they have forgotten? They had a cheat right here with them!
