When the Wild Beast is Trapped in the Nightmare Cycle (BL) -
Chapter 468: Xinxin’s Personal Task
Chapter 468: Xinxin’s Personal Task
Still in a state of disbelief, Gu Luoxin frantically prodded at the Nightmare inside his mind, but after dropping that one lethal bomb, the mysterious entity played dead and no longer gave a response no matter how much he tried to appeal.
[Make the evil Queen realize that true love still exists.]
H–How was he supposed to do that?! And why would the personal task appear as soon as he reunited with Noir? Was the Nightmare telling him to... to... confess his feelings? Inside the Cycle and in such an unsightly form, no less?!
But he had no such feelings for Noir! He knew this very well! Unlike those besotted people who wished to know everything there was about their crushes, who yearned to get closer and bring their relationship into the next level... Gu Luoxin was not like that! Not at all!
He was perfectly content with admiring Noir from afar, in his own corner where the other person wouldn’t notice him. He wasn’t greedy to know everything about Noir either; he would just cherish whatever morsels of attention the emerald-eyed man deigned to offer him.
He couldn’t even imagine being lovey-dovey with Noir like a normal couple, as it would feel like he was committing blasphemy!
These feelings of his... they were small, humble, pure and untainted by earthly desires...
It definitely couldn’t be considered as true love!
But why... why would the Nightmare assign him such a task? Arghh, it must have wanted to humiliate him in front of his idol and role model! What everyone said was true— the Nightmare was really good at attacking the player’s weak spots!
All this emotional turmoil churned in Gu Luoxin’s mind in less than five seconds.
During that short period, the two evil Queens merged into one, morphing into a monstrous entity whose sinister presence towered over the ballroom. The shadowy black flames burned more fiercely to the point where everyone could feel its searing heat even from a distance, making it feel like they were trapped in a cauldron.
Within the amalgamation of shadows, a pair of blood-red eyes snapped open, blazing with unbridled malice, its gaze penetrating like daggers into the souls of all present.
"Finally..." a chilling voice, soft yet laden with menace, resonated gently in the air, yet the impact was akin to a sharp knife drilling into everyone’s brain.
The NPCs, who had yet to flee the ballroom, collapsed to the ground with blood flowing out of their five orifices. The players grimaced and staggered— Xiao Zhong turned over and vomited, Old Tao slapped an amulet on his sweaty forehead, barely saving himself. Shen Nianzu swiftly downed a stabilizing agent and stuffed another into Jin Jiuchi’s mouth, while Noir activated an invisible barrier around him with a prop, protecting both himself and the brown mouse still cradled within his palm.
The other mice were not so lucky. As if consuming a deadly poison, they lay sprawled on the ground, spasming and convulsing.
Upon witnessing that, Lumina immediately made a move. Summoning every ounce of magic left within her, she cast a protective spell over them in a desperate bid to preserve their lives.
But unfortunately, that action of hers only seemed to incense the evil Queen further, as Lumina’s tiny body was abruptly seized in a vice-like grip, her fragile form suspended in the air!
"Ah!" Letting out a pained cry, Lumina struggled to free herself of the invisible shadows that wrapped around her neck, her wings flapping weakly behind her back. Even her once radiant halo now dimmed, tears welling up in her eyes as she addressed the Queen with a tremor of anguish in her voice. "Y–Your Majesty..." she choked out.
It wasn’t only her who was held captive, but also Caen.
In the face of the looming shadow, the two of them appeared so small, weak, and helpless in comparison as though the other party could easily kill them if she wished for it.
Gasping for breath, Caen gazed at the nightmare creature before him with sad eyes, his voice trembling with sorrow as he uttered a feeble plea, "W–Wife..."
Yet to the Queen’s ears, his words amounted to nothing but a faint, barely discernible squeak. Not that she would ever hear him out. Not anymore.
Her laughter echoed in the air, soft and delicate at first, only to grow into a cacophony that reverberated through the palace, causing its very foundations to tremble. "Finally... I’ve been waiting so long for this day!" She hissed sharply. "Oh my dearest husband, and my beloved friend... the two people whom I held closest to my heart, yet also the ones who tore me the deepest wounds. Look at this tragic state we end up in, and this is all because you betrayed me!!"
"To this day I still ask myself... why?" Her voice cracked with raw emotions, and as though responding to her agony, the invisible shadows tightened themselves around Lumina and Caen’s body, causing them to gasp for breath. "Why did you betray me?!!"
"I... didn’t...!" Lumina struggled to even shake her head, tears streaming down her pale cheeks. "Please... believe me. I have never betrayed you!"
"Cii...t!" Neither have I!
"Silence!" The evil Queen spat out with venom. "Your feeble excuses no longer hold any sway over me. I have witnessed every betrayal, every deceit. And tonight, I shall finally be free of this forsaken curse!"
Along with that declaration, a palpable sense of oppression descended upon the ballroom, rendering everyone unable to breathe. Others simply felt like a massive burden suddenly weighed down atop their shoulders, but in Gu Luoxin’s eyes, it was a totally different scene altogether.
The invisible shadows were akin to tangible and dark clouds shrouding his vision, and right now they were so thick and heavy that he almost couldn’t see anything beyond one meter in front of him! They not only permeated every nook and cranny of the ballroom, but also seeped out through the doors and windows to cast a malicious shadow over the entire town!
Gu Luoxin’s fur bristled in response to the danger alarm ringing in his mind, and he whipped his head toward Noir. "Something is wrong ciit! His Majesty... the Caen I know would never betray someone, especially not his wife!"
Noir gazed at the squeaking mouse on his palm quietly before reaching out to gently stroke the twitching whiskers. "I don’t understand what you’re saying," he murmured.
Gu Luoxin: "...!"
That’s right, they were two different species right now!
Amidst the pitch black darkness, Noir’s invisible barrier shimmered with a soft emerald glow, casting a captivating sheen over his deep and profound eyes. Gu Luoxin parted his mouth, only to shut it again. He circled twice around Noir’s palm to vent his panic and frustration before an idea sparked in his mind, prompting him to scratch his tiny paw on the surface of the man’s hand.
If they couldn’t communicate, then he just had to write!
Slowly and painstakingly, Gu Luoxin etched out his message, "L-u-c-i—" He was halfway done when realization dawned on Noir, but before he could summon the black cat to serve as a translator between them, the evil Queen’s voice echoed beyond the shadows.
"I will make you all suffer two... no, a hundredfold of the agony I’ve endured all this time!!" With a vengeful cry, the dark shadows descended to engulf the entire town.
