When the Wild Beast is Trapped in the Nightmare Cycle (BL) -
Chapter 457: Good Son
Chapter 457: Good Son
Stunned, the King questioned, "You... want to purge them all? Didn’t you just say that you’ve taken a liking to them?"
Twirling the spoon between his fingers, Noir gave a nonchalant shrug, "I am a Prince, it’s only natural for me to prioritize our royal lineage above all else. Father, since you’re so against my request, it should pose no problem if we get rid of them all, right?"
BANG!
The King slammed his fist on the table, sending the plates and utensils rattling. "Impudent!" his enraged voice thundered in the room. "Are you challenging me right now?! Are you doing this because I refuse to indulge in your whims?!"
"Heh..." a soundless laughter bubbled out of Noir’s throat, devoid of mirth. Leaning back on his chair, he rested his head on his knuckles, his nonchalant demeanor a stark contrast to the furious man before him. "How could you put words into my mouth? I presented my request, and you rejected it. Now I told you I’ve changed my mind and decided to dispose of them, yet you still don’t agree. Father, exactly what do you want me to do?"
Of course, Noir was not doing this recklessly. Now that he had heard Gu Luoxin’s part of the story, it’s time for him to confirm things from his side.
The person before him was supposed to be the Queen, and to prove this conjecture, Noir needed to poke her right where it hurt the most. People showed their realest and most authentic selves when they were shrouded in negative emotions – it was a lesson he had learned both in the real world and the Nightmare Cycle. And coincidentally, the easiest method he could use right now was to incite the other person’s anger.
If ’he’ was truly the deceased Queen, Noir had to ascertain one crucial detail— the other person surely couldn’t be a human, judging from the fact that he could turn the real King into a mouse.
In a pivotal moment, the King’s anger suddenly simmered down as he narrowed his eyes, his gaze sharp and scrutinizing. "You’ve changed," he observed. "Normally, you wouldn’t dare defy me so boldly like this. What is it? Have you possibly... seen or heard... something you shouldn’t have?"
Between one heartbeat and the next, the atmosphere in the room abruptly changed.
The temperature plunged past the freezing point, and the pressure in the air sank heavily. Goosebumps prickled along Noir’s skin as a wave of chill crawled down his spine, causing his heart to skip a beat. He tensed, every inch of his body screaming and warning him— this person was dangerous!
Had it been any other person, they might have caved under the mounting pressure. But Noir managed to keep his back straight and his expression unbothered, seemingly unfazed by the increasing doubt and suspicion emanating from the other person. In fact, he was already prepared to summon his life-saving prop, but he simply wanted to see where things would lead.
"Changed?" Noir echoed lightly. "I’m afraid I don’t understand what you’re talking about, Father. I’ve always been like this. And what do you mean by something I shouldn’t have seen or heard?"
Yet it was as if the King could no longer register his words. Gripping his head, he murmured under his breath, more to himself than to Noir. "No... this isn’t how it was supposed to go. Is it that bitch’s fault? Is she here to stand in my way once more?"
That bitch? Who?
Noir opened his mouth to ask, but then he was shocked to discover that his mouth remained shut as though sealed by glue. Not only that, his body refused to obey his command and he was paralyzed from head to toe!
Clang!
The delicate spoon slipped from his grasp to roll on the table, producing a clear and sharp sound. Chills arose from the bottom of Noir’s heart as he struggled to move even the tip of his fingers, yet under the influence of the unknown spell, his entire body remained still and he could only watch as the King rose to his feet and approached him.
Noir’s pupils dilated, the emerald orbs reflecting the King’s unsteady gait and distressed countenance.
The smooth skin behind his back protruded, and something almost seemed to burst out of his body, but he promptly suppressed the instinct to attack.
Not yet, he told himself.
The fact that he could still use his skill card proved that he was yet at the end of his rope. He tried to access his prop and found that he could do it as well. It seemed like whatever spell that had been cast on him served only to immobilize, on the ground that his character was but an ordinary human.
Most importantly, he couldn’t sense any hint of murderous intent from the other person.
Drawing a calming breath, Noir swiftly regained his bearings and checked in with himself.

Good, still unchanged.
"You are not acting like yourself. You’re my son, my pride and joy, the only one I can always count on..." the King muttered, almost like a madman. Noir watched with calm eyes as the King stood beside him and seized a fistful of his hair, yanking his head up to meet his eyes. An almost obsessive gleam flickered in his lone eye, "Tell me. You will always be my good son, won’t you?"
A momentary dizziness washed over Noir as he locked eyes with the King, and without him being able to control it, his mouth parted to form words. "Yes," he heard his own voice speaking, flat and emotionless like a robot. "Of course, Father. I am your good son."
Satisfaction graced the King’s smile as he released Noir. "Good," he nodded. "I know that you, of all people, will always stand by me." His tone softened, remorse seeping through his gaze. "I’m deeply sorry, my son. I didn’t want to do this either, but I can’t risk any unexpected accidents during the royal ball. This time, I must find the real glass slippers no matter what."
"And for that," he continued. "I need your help."
Straightening up, he returned to his own seat and reached for his glass wine, twirling it lightly before taking a sip. "You’ve just given me an excellent idea. Very well, if that’s what you want, I will approve the stipulation. Perhaps this is the key to rid myself of this forsaken curse once and for all..."
