When the Wild Beast is Trapped in the Nightmare Cycle (BL) -
Chapter 450: Acting Cute
Chapter 450: Acting Cute
Even until they emerged from the underground sewer, Gu Luoxin remained in a daze, unable to process the words he had just heard. Though Lucius had not repeated himself for the second time, Gu Luoxin was fairly certain that he had heard the black cat mention ’date’.
Him and Lucius, on a date? Did Lucius even understand the meaning of that word, or was there a different interpretation for animals that Gu Luoxin was not aware of?
Gu Luoxin wanted to ask so badly, but somehow his heart shriveled up each time he locked eyes with Lucius’, and his courage dissipated faster than a drop of water under the scorching summer sun. He could only stew in his own curiosity and follow Lucius out of the dark and dingy tunnel, fully reassured with the fact that the black cat wouldn’t do anything to harm him.
As Gu Luoxin watched the black cat lead the way, he was overcome with a mixture of amusement and helplessness. Who could have guessed that his first date would happen inside the Cycle, with a cat and a divine prop, no less? Then again, he was immensely fond of Lucius, so he wouldn’t mind having his first date with the latter.
It’s just...
"U–Um," he spoke up, drawing Lucius’ attention. "Does Senior know that we... does he know what we’re about to do ciit?"
A hint of disdain flickered in the black cat’s eyes. Against the backdrop of the night sky, his emerald orbs shimmered with an ethereal hue, breathtaking in its intensity.
"Why should I tell him?" he rolled his eyes dismissively. "It’s enough that he knows I’ve found you meow. Besides, he’s currently busy being dragged around with the preparation of the royal ball, so he’s had his hands full. Or..." he narrowed his eyes skeptically, sending Gu Luoxin’s little poor heart into disarray. "Do you want me to tell him meow?"
"N–No, no, there’s no need ciit!" Gu Luoxin shook his head like a rattle drum. "If he’s as busy as you say, then there’s no need to bother him!"
Lucius harrumphed, his tail languidly swaying back and forth, seemingly satisfied with the response he received. Looking at him like this, Gu Luoxin fought to suppress the snicker that almost escaped his lips. This was something he had noticed previously, but despite the occasional bickering and arguments, the two of them were undeniably close, weren’t they? All this time, Gu Luoxin could only guess Lucius’ mood from his micro gestures and body language, so it was incredibly refreshing to obtain direct answers like this.
In a cheerful mood, Gu Luoxin asked, "Where should we go ciit?"
"Are you hungry?" Lucius asked, and as if on cue, Gu Luoxin’s stomach emitted a faint growl.
With a sheepish chuckle, the brown mouse admitted, "Hehe, very."
The only meal he had since entering the Cycle was pig feed, which he shoved into his mouth in a hurry due to the time constraints. Although it was enough to pad his stomach for the time being, all these emotional rollercoasters had left him drained, and now he felt so famished that he could devour a whole cow.
"Are you going to hunt ciit?" Gu Luoxin couldn’t help but ask, overwhelmed by curiosity.
But once again, Lucius regarded him with disdain as if he was a naïve child who had not seen the world yet, making him feel somewhat awkward. "Then what?"
In lieu of an answer, Lucius tilted his head and motioned for Gu Luoxin to follow.
The two of them navigated the twists and turns in the alleys, keeping clear of the paths crowded with people. Gu Luoxin made sure to stick close to Lucius, whose larger frame perfectly concealed him from sight.
Compared to a mouse darting across the street, the sight of a cat leisurely strolling by did not seem to garner as much attention, granting Gu Luoxin a solid sense of safety.
Gu Luoxin had no idea where they were heading, but Lucius seemed to know his way around the town very well, judging from his calm and confident gait and the way he always knew which direction to take. Moreover, he always took Gu Luoxin’s physical limitation into mind and only opted for paths accessible for a mouse. It was truly magical how the black cat’s mere presence could reassure him this much, as opposed to his vigilant and wary stance when he traveled with Caen earlier.
How cool, Gu Luoxin thought in awe.
As expected of Senior’s one and only divine prop!
"We’re here," Lucius announced, halting in his tracks. Gu Luoxin shifted his gaze forward and found that they had arrived in the... market?
Stalls lined up along the streets, their wares displayed invitingly as merchants called out to passersby. Beautiful lanterns dangled from the eaves, casting a gentle radiance over the scene. Amidst the lively setting, people casually strolled around while chatting and laughing. It would have been a heart-warming and serene atmosphere... if only he wasn’t a mouse right now.
Gu Luoxin couldn’t help but gulp nervously upon seeing the towering figures who could flatten him into meat pies with a single stomp of their feet. Shuddering at the thought, he sidled closer to Lucius’ paw, asking with a soft and shaky voice, "W–What are we doing here ciit?"
"To eat," Lucius replied with ease. "Wait here for a while and don’t run around meow. I will be back soon."
Under Gu Luoxin’s puzzled gaze, Lucius emerged from the dark alley into the brightly lit street, heading straight to the stall selling bread and cakes. The scent of the freshly baked bread wafted in the air, causing Gu Luoxin’s stomach to protest even louder. But soon his hunger was promptly forgotten by the shocking scene unfolding before his eyes.
H–Holy shit, what was he witnessing right now?
Lucius... was acting cute... to ask for food?!
Gu Luoxin’s jaws dropped to the ground as he watched Lucius meowing sweetly to the merchant, using his bright eyes and docile appearance to charm her. It did not take long for the young woman to cave in. After petting Lucius for a while, she swiftly retrieved a piece of chicken drumstick, presumably leftovers from her dinner.
However, Lucius stepped back with a meow, gesturing at the bread she was selling with his paw.
The young man was hesitant at first, but in the end, she tentatively offered a slice of bread for Lucius, who immediately held it in his mouth. Rubbing his face against her hand in gratitude, he turned away and walked back to Gu Luoxin, who hadn’t picked up his jaws from the ground.
Sitting down, Lucius placed the bread in front of him and nudged him with his wet nose, "What are you waiting for meow? Eat."
"Y–You..." Gu Luoxin’s gaze became extremely complicated. He had never expected that Lucius would resort to such tactics to gather food for him. While it was not uncommon for cats to beg for food from humans, he had assumed that it was beneath Lucius, a proud and noble cat. Yet he still did it, all because Gu Luoxin mentioned that he was hungry.
Instead of questioning it, Gu Luoxin choked out, expressing his sincere gratitude, "T–Thank you..."
He could feel tears welling up in his eyes, and he hurriedly ducked his head so that the black cat couldn’t see. Grabbing the bread with his paws, he attempted to take a bite, but it was too hard and dense for his teeth.
Observing his pitiful struggle, Lucius released a helpless sigh and effortlessly tore off a small piece with his canines, offering it to Gu Luoxin. "Mn," he urged with his eyes.
Watching this exchange, Gu Luoxin finally couldn’t hold back his tears anymore, eating while shedding tears. As he chewed and swallowed the bread, its rich flavor exploded in his mouth— sweet and savory, mixing with the salty tang of his tears.
"Pfft," Lucius leaned in and licked his tears away, his eyes gleaming with amusement. "Silly Xinxin, what are you crying for meow?"
