When the Wild Beast is Trapped in the Nightmare Cycle (BL) -
Chapter 439: Average Brown Mouse
Chapter 439: Average Brown Mouse
H–How did things turn out like this?!
Gu Luoxin, of all people, wanted to know the most. After enduring a tumultuous wave of intense vertigo inside the bus, he woke up to find himself sprawled on the grimy, damp floor where the air was thick with the stench of sewer water.
He attempted to push himself into a sitting position, only to realize that something was dreadfully wrong with his limbs. His hands seemed to have shrunk to an abnormal size, and his face was so close to the ground that he almost kissed it.
With his heart hammering in his chest, he frantically scrambled to his feet, or what felt like feet, as his body moved with an unsteady gait. As an athletic person possessing a flexible body, never before had Gu Luoxin felt so unstable like this. It was as though he was standing atop of a mad bull, desperately trying to regain his balance as flying knives hurled toward his face.
Gu Luoxin subconsciously looked down to check his body, and he recoiled in horror as he beheld his tiny paws and furry body. Apart from the fur, he was practically naked from head to toe, with his private areas shamefully exposed for all the world to see!
He let out a terrified scream, "Ciiit—!"
But to his horror, instead of the human voice he was expecting to hear, what came out of his mouth was a high-pitched squeak. His pointed snout twitched and his white whiskers trembled. Behind his butt, an additional body-length scaly tail dragged across the ground with a faint whish-whish sound, intensifying the dread he was feeling.
Fear and confusion swirled within him as he struggled to make sense of his current situation.
W–What was happening? Why did he become like this? Where was he? And where were his two teammates?!
"Ciiit!" Aghast, Gu Luoxin habitually moved to yank on his hair, only to realize that his whole head was covered in fur, and there was even a pair of small, rounded ears on top.
Gu Luoxin wailed internally. Nooo—!
Clutching his head, his body swayed precariously. And because he was still not used to this body, he ended up falling flat face-first on the ground and tasted a mouthful of dust. With tears brimming in his eyes, Gu Luoxin struggled to adjust to standing on four legs, sad whimpers of ’cit-cit’ escaping his lips.
This was the sixth Cycle he had entered, but never before had he encountered something so sinister! Wasn’t the Cycle’s theme supposed to be the fairytale of Cinderella? There were so many roles he could have been assigned to: the father, stepsisters, the king, grand duke, various ball guests, household staff. So why... why did he have to become a mouse?!
God must have a personal grudge against him! QAQ
As far as he could remember, the mice in Cinderella’s story served as assistants to the fairy godmother— they possessed magical power to transform Cinderella’s rags into a beautiful gown and help her escape from her room to attend the royal ball. Most importantly, they could speak human languages and they wore clothes to cover their bodies!
On the contrary, Gu Luoxin realized with despair that he was just an average brown and dirty mouse with no superpower whatsoever...
But wait a moment— would he gain his power after triggering a certain event, for example... finding the fairy godmother or meeting Cinderella? Yes, that was possible!
Gu Luoxin tearfully forced himself to lift his spirits as his tiny claws scraped against the cold, hard ground. First thing first, he had to find Shen Nianzu and Jin Jiuchi! They were a team, so surely they wouldn’t be separated too far!
Holding onto that glimmer of hope, Gu Luoxin began to survey his surroundings, noting that he must be inside the walls. The first half an hour of his exploration was a real struggle where he kept tripping over his own limbs, rendering him panting for breath like an exhausted dog. Gu Luoxin had lost count of how many times he had shed tears, leaving a watery trail behind him. He must be the only mouse capable of producing tears in the entire Cycle.
Twitching his snout, he fought to navigate through the unfamiliar terrain with his unfamiliar body. It was unknown how much time had passed, when his stomach let out a particularly loud growl.
Hungry... he felt so hungry...
What did a mouse even eat aside from cheese[1]?
Another wave of despair loomed over his chest when he realized just how little he knew about mice. Then again, how could he have predicted that he would become one in this Cycle?!
Half cursing and half crying, Gu Luoxin continued to trudge forward on all fours, following the dizzying twists and turns before him until he came across a fork. He raised his head and sniffed around before choosing a path that his mouse instinct liked better. Only when he had taken a few steps did he freeze and realize what he had done.
Hold on, why did he act so natural just now? He was not a real mouse wuwuwu—!
It took Gu Luoxin a while, but he finally managed to emerge from the wall. The space before him was super gigantic, rendering him unable to analyze his current location. From his low perspective, he could only make out the legs of a table, chairs and a cabinet. It seemed like he had unwittingly stumbled into the living room of an unknown house.
Sensing no immediate danger, Gu Luoxin first poked his head out to survey the room before tentatively pulling his entire body out.
His instinct urged him to search for food, and after sniffing around some more, he finally set his gaze on the cabinet on the adjacent floor. Steeling himself, he wiggled his round butt, clenched his tiny paws, and zoomed toward the destination.
But halfway through, a loud childish shriek pierced the air, almost startling the soul out of his body. "Mommy, there’s a mouse!"
Gu Luoxin: "....!"
The ground trembled faintly beneath his feet, and a colossal shadow barreled toward him with the speed of a nuclear weapon. Upon closer inspection, it was merely a toddler who trotted over in curiosity, intending to observe him closer.
However, for Gu Luoxin, the little kid was no different than a titan— a super tall and huge titan that could crush him with a single stomp of their feet!
"Ciiittt...!" Gu Luoxin’s fur exploded into a ball as he hastily retreated in the direction he had come from, his eyes wild in panic and horror. He squeezed his round body back into the hole and scurried away with the fastest speed his four limbs could carry him.
Mission abort! Mission abort!
The outside world was far too terrifying!
As a result, Gu Luoxin dared not even venture outside anymore. He spent the entire night curled up inside the wall, trembling and squeaking, wishing that Shen Nianzu or Jin Jiuchi could magically pop out of thin air to whisk him away. He couldn’t even feel the hunger anymore, for his fear had taken precedence.
Fast forward, Gu Luoxin finally mustered the courage to give it another try. This time, he made sure that the coast was clear before cautiously climbing his way out of the hole. He hadn’t even planned his next move when loud cheers and exuberant music reverberated through the air, capturing his attention.
What was happening outside? Why was it so rowdy?
Keeping full vigilance, Gu Luoxin explored the house before discovering the slightly ajar front door. His swollen eyes lit up and he hurried there, poking his head out to observe. But then, he was shocked by the sheer amount of people that had gathered outside.
If the previous toddler already felt like a titan to him, then the crowd was akin to packed colossal monsters that blotted out the entire sky, stretching as far as his beady eyes could see.
S–So many people!
Nevertheless, Gu Luoxin considered it a huge improvement that he had managed to escape from the terrifying house and its terrifying toddler, though he had no idea what the outside world had in store for him.
Slipping outside the door, he moved along the wall while attempting to observe the surroundings. It was fortunate that the people didn’t take note of an insignificant little mouse like him, allowing him to smoothly reach the side of the house where a canal was flowing with pure and clear water.
He tentatively inched closer and peered into the water, only to recoil at the sight of his own mousy face.
Arghhh, so ugly—!!!
Even though he had a patch of white fur around his snout and beneath his chin, he still looked so extremely ugly! Give him back his human face, his ten fingers and toes, and his slender 1.7-meter body!!!
Crying in whimpers, Gu Luoxin rubbed his face with his dirty paws when the corner of his eyes caught sight of a striking silver color. He froze for a split second before snapping his head in that direction, and his beady eyes widened when he spotted a figure clad in a beautiful dress and a cloak, walking alongside a shorter and younger woman who chattered excitedly.
Despite the womanly attire, Gu Luoxin easily recognized that exquisite face and long silver hair.
It was none other than his Boss and teammate, Shen Nianzu!
"Ciit— ciiit!!" Gu Luoxin was so moved that he almost burst out into tears. After a full day and night of suffering, he finally glimpsed upon a faint shimmer of light at the end of the long tunnel.
Xiao Shen, I’m here! It’s me, Xinxin!!
Desperate to let his teammate know about his current whereabouts, he disregarded his surroundings and dashed straight toward Shen Nianzu, passing through the narrow spaces beneath people’s legs.
