When the Wild Beast is Trapped in the Nightmare Cycle (BL) -
Chapter 429: Such A Genius!
Chapter 429: Such A Genius!
Surprise flashed through Jin Jiuchi’s eyes, and all the words he was about to say became stuck in his throat. However, unlike ordinary people’s reaction, he did not back away, nor did he scream on top of his lungs and lose his mind out of fear.
The mysterious eyeball blinked once, and Jin Jiuchi also blinked once in response.
It blinked twice, and Jin Jiuchi also blinked twice.
The eye: "..."
A slightly awkward silence settled in the air following this staring contest. Coincidentally, the eye Jin Jiuchi used to peek was his left – the black orb with a golden slit pupil. In the midst of the profound darkness, it emitted a radiant glow comparable to a burning coal, so it was difficult to say which one of them was more inhumane.
All of a sudden, Jin Jiuchi’s eyes curved. "Hey," he spoke in a surprisingly cheerful tone, almost playful. "I didn’t know there was someone down there. You got any food, buddy?"
The eye: "...?"
A hint of confusion appeared on the blood-red eye, as if silently questioning, ’what the hell is wrong with this person?’
"I am not picky," Jin Jiuchi declared confidently and started to list off his conditions. "As long as it doesn’t smell of blood, doesn’t give off any suspicious smell, doesn’t produce any messy liquid, all is fine with me. Oh, it will be even better if you have bread, butter, barbeque..."
As a result, Jin Jiuchi hadn’t even finished speaking yet when the eye vanished with a swish as if swallowed by the mouth of darkness.
"Wait, wait!" Jin Jiuchi pressed closer, anxiously shouting. "Don’t go, you haven’t answered me!"
Alas, no matter how much Jin Jiuchi pleaded, the mysterious eye resolutely left, as silently and suddenly as the way it had appeared. "Geez," Jin Jiuchi sat up and grumbled under his breath. "How rude. Didn’t even say a word of greeting..."
Out of anger and frustration, he poked two of his fingers into the hole as if wishing he could jab the impolite and mannerless eye, but of course, he touched nothing but empty air. Sullenly, he pulled his fingers out, but they inadvertently dragged on the mouth of the hole, causing the fine dust on the floor to tremble ever so slightly.
"Huh?" Blinking, Jin Jiuchi stared at the floor beneath him. Gingerly, he once again inserted two fingers into the hole, crooked them into a hook, and pulled them upwards.
A small square section of the floor was lifted, revealing a secret underground passage right before his eyes.
"Wow..." Jin Jiuchi’s eyes sparkled in excitement. He stared at the thick dust on his two fingers and blew it with the movement of someone blowing the muzzle of the gun after firing it, feeling extraordinarily cool. He clicked his tongue and shook his head, "Damn it, I’m such a genius!"
Jin ’Genius’ Jiuchi was ready to jump into the dark passage when he suddenly recalled a certain jade doll. "Ah right, I should wait for Nian’er." Despite his words, his gaze uncontrollably wandered to the narrow staircase leading to an unknown destination, and an itchy sensation spread in his chest.
"...or should I?"
Maybe... maybe he could go down and check it out for a bit. After all, Shen Nianzu was also doing his best to gather information from the rest of the family. If he, Jin Jiuchi, only stayed put without offering any assistance, then he would be a failure as a teammate and boyfriend!
Jin Jiuchi nodded, thinking that his logic was so reasonable and so very worthy of being the ideal partner. However, he also knew that he shouldn’t disappear just like this, and he ought to at least leave a message to inform the jade doll of his whereabouts.
Looking around, Jin Jiuchi found no piece of paper and pen in his room, and it wasn’t like he could summon the servants to fetch it for him, when they couldn’t even seem to hear him at all.
Scrunching his brows, Jin Jiuchi pondered on this matter for a while before a brilliant idea struck him. "Aha!" he exclaimed, hitting his fist against his palm. Standing up, he approached the bare, mottled wall and bit down on his index finger, using his blood to write the message.
[Nian’er, I’m going down first!]
In the end, he even carefully added a tiny heart.
The message was supposed to convey his upbeat and excited energy, but when paired with a narrow old room with a light that flickered on and off, the bloody writings appeared a little twisted and sinister, especially as the crimson liquid began to ooze down the wall.
Satisfied with his handicraft, Jin Jiuchi licked his finger and the torn flesh instantly stitched itself together with a speed visible to naked eyes, leaving nothing but smooth skin behind. Then he picked up his skirt and took his first step down to the secret passageway.
"Hehehe..." his chuckle reverberated eerily in the dark. "Let’s see what kind of secret you’re hiding, Cinderella~"
With soft-soled shoes covering his feet, Jin Jiuchi descended the narrow staircase step by step. Starting from his legs, torso and chest, his body gradually disappeared under the ground. And as soon as his head went down too, the small door abruptly slammed shut with a resounding bam!
"T–That scared me!" Jin Jiuchi jumped, clutching his chest like a spooked maiden. He tried to push the door open, but just like the wooden door of his room, it also did not budge at all. "Huh? Am I trapped?"
Jin Jiuchi finally realized his predicament, but he soon gave a nonchalant shrug and tossed the trouble to the back of his mind. "Oh well, Nian’er will be able to come find me later."
Turning his attention forward, Jin Jiuchi found that the staircase extended quite deeply and he couldn’t even begin to fathom where it was leading to. The air down here smelled even more musty and damp, with a sour tinge of something rotten.
Jin Jiuchi wrinkled his nose in disgust, but the prospect of thrilling exploration and danger of the unknown sent his goosebumps rising, offsetting any discomfort he was feeling. An electrifying sensation ran down his spine, and his entire person perked up akin to an alert wolf.
He could tell that something very exciting was waiting for him below!
Grinning from ear-to-ear, he continued to make his way down. Thanks to his superb vision, he did not even need any flashlight to illuminate his way. His steps were smooth and firm, devoid of the caution one would express upon entering an uncharted territory. On the other hand, meeting such a tall and muscular man clad in a tight dress with an obscure grin and a pair of glowing eyes, it was other people who would be scared to death.
What Jin Jiuchi didn’t know was, a few minutes after his departure, a maid knocked on the door and pushed it open, carrying a tray of food courtesy to Richard’s order.
"Miss—" she abruptly froze upon finding nobody inside the room.
The window was intact, and the bed, previously leaning against the wall, had somehow returned to its original position, concealing the secret underground passageway. The stench of blood assaulted her nose and upon seeing the bloody writings on the wall, her complexion blanched and the tray slipped from her hand, crashing to the ground. She unleashed a horrified shriek,
"AHHH—!!!"
