Chapter 350: Out Of Control

The Chrono beasts were akin to an advancing army, an unstoppable tsunami, their clockwork eyes emitting an eerie light. "Rule breaker, must punish."

Their steel forms cast an imposing shadow, rendering the players tiny and fragile in comparison. Right now, they were like plump rabbits in the face of a pack of ferocious predators. In a silent concession, everyone pressed their backs against each other while staring at the enemies warily, readying themselves for a fight.

Clutching the baby tour guide closer to him, Gu Luoxin asked in a fluster, "Xiao Shen, what should we do?!"

Unfortunately, Shen Nianzu’s mind was still working up a solution to escape this dire situation. Gritting his teeth, he turned to Ying, "Did my future self say anything about this?!"

The answer he received was far from satisfactory. "No," Ying responded as she nocked an arrow into her bow and aimed at the Chrono beasts. "In the first place, I don’t think he has entered the ’Endless Staircase’. We have completely deviated from the plans."

After saying that, she released the arrow and let it whizz through the air, striking right into the beast’s throat. Alas, the creature merely reeled backward for a second due to the momentum before resuming their relentless advance, unfazed.

"Damn it!" Ying cursed under her breath when she saw that the attack was not working.

Shen Nianzu’s expression sank. If his future self had not said anything about this matter, then right now, they could only rely on their own selves.

"Stay back!" Shen Nianzu pushed the twins behind him as he summoned his blade, the wind gale churning around him. The familiar strength filled his body akin to a surge of warm current, but Shen Nianzu had little time to be grateful for that as he threw his body forward and swung his blade powerfully, purple energy crackling around him like a rising tempest.

He pushed his speed to the limit, practically turning himself into a blur. The edge of his blade was just inches away from the steel body when his movements slowed as though he had met with a tangible air resistance.

Not good!

Alarm bells rang inside his mind, but before he could pull himself away, the Chrono beast struck out with its palm and sent his little body flying through the air!

"Nian’er!" The twins caught him squarely in their arms before he could crash to the ground and break his ribs. But that one attack was powerful enough to make Shen Nianzu feel like his insides had been rearranged. Gasping for breath, he spat out a mouthful of blood.

The sight of crimson liquid staining his lips and chin rendered the twins momentarily stunned. But soon, their expressions turned livid as they bared their teeth and growled at the Chrono beast. "How dare you!"

"Wait—" Shen Nianzu tried to hold them back, but he was a fraction too late.

The two dumplings pounced on the Chrono beast with unprecedented ferocity and tackled the massive steel body to the ground, using their teeth to tear into the metal! Sparks burst out of the beast’s torn body and with a roar, it tossed the twins aside! However, the two Jin Jiuchis simply used the momentum to roll on the ground before they lunged forward again.

Shen Nianzu struggled to get to his feet, coughing.

All around him, the cacophony of battle filled the air, but it was painfully clear that the Chrono beasts had the upper hand, thanks to their ability to manipulate time. Unless they were strong enough to eliminate the beasts in a single decisive strike... unless they were fast enough to render the time manipulation useless... sooner or later, they would be wiped out for sure!

Shen Nianzu felt his ears ringing as he witnessed Gu Luoxin’s cyan kingkong grappling with one of the beasts, desperately trying to inflict one injury after another. Noir and Ying had chosen long range attacks, though it proved to deal minimal damage to the steel bodies. The other players were not doing so well either as more and more wounds accumulated in their bodies.

On the sidelines, Momoko laughed in sadistic glee as she witnessed their futile struggles, clapping her hands with excitement. "Go on! Kill them all!"

Shen Nianzu’s breathing slowed as his heartbeat echoed beside his ears. What should he do? How could they escape from this siege?

At that moment, the airflow shifted, creating ripples like a stone thrown into a clear lake.

With a whoosh, Shen Nianzu snapped his head to the direction of the invisible disturbance and found the short-haired player, Qiuqiu, closing her eyes and muttering something under her breath. A radiant glow began to envelope her entire body.

"Ha... haha..." Buzz Cut let out a hoarse laugh as he painstakingly dodged and evaded the beasts’ steel claws with his weakened body, his breathing ragged. "She is finally using her skill card. We’re saved! I have seen her use it once before, and it’s hella powerful. She can summon a nightmare creature from another Cycle to aid us!"

Another summoning skill card?

The air vibrated violently as Qiuqiu continued her incantation, her face contorting with deep lines of concentration. Her complexion drained of color, her breathing grew erratic and sweat rolled down her cheeks. She looked like she was enduring great discomfort.

Behind her, the space was torn asunder as if an invisible hand had ripped it apart, and an overwhelming aura spilled into the air, causing the battlefield to pause for a moment.

"No..." Shen Nianzu almost tripped on his feet, disbelief and horror washing over him like a tidal wave. "Impossible... how...?"

Qiuqiu spat out a mouthful of blood and collapsed to the ground, convulsing. An agonizing screech escaped from her lips, "It hurts! It hurts! It hurts! My skill card... my skill card is going out of control!"

"Wha..." Buzz Cut’s jaws hung agape in shock as he stammered, "W–What’s wrong with you?!"

Shen Nianzu held his breath sharply, his body frozen in place. He couldn’t seem to tear his eyes away from the ruptured space. First came a pair of long legs wrapped in black stilettos, followed by a beautiful figure dressed in a sparkling mini black dress that seemed to be sprinkled with diamonds.

The summoned nightmare creature had completely black eyes with no visible whites, with intricate black swirls etched onto her delicate skin. She had a fair complexion and enchanting appearance, though her overpowering demonic aura would deter others more often than not.

When she opened her mouth to speak, it was as if her voice resonated directly in the players’ minds, sending them reeling with a brief dizzy spell.

"Who has awakened me from my slumber?"

"You...!" Momoko jumped up in shock like a spooked cat, her face filled with incredulity. "How did you get here?! This is not a place where you can come and go as you please!"

The nightmare creature ignored her, of course. Her inky-black eyes scanned the surroundings as though searching for something – or someone – and Shen Nianzu knew very well who she was looking for.

He had prepared himself for this since he survived through that high-level Cycle, carrying the remnants of the curse within his very soul. He had prepared himself for this since he entered the Shishen Apartment in search of the guidebook that would lead him to his destination. He had prepared himself for this since he requested the King of Atlantis for their one and only witch bane.

But now, when he stood face-to-face with the very creature of his nightmares, Shen Nianzu still found his blood running cold. Icy shivers ran down his spine, his instinct screaming at him to flee as quickly as possible.

Those pure black eyes finally settled on him, and a malicious grin spread across her face. "There you are."

The one and only nightmare creature who had sent Shen Nianzu to the ICU for one week straight, the creature who had cursed him before dying, who had sworn that she would come back to life and hunt him down.

Medeia, Witch of the Darkest Hour, daughter of the Demon King Asmodeus.
