Chapter 336: Feeding Time

"...Mn," Shen Nianzu let out a little grunt from his throat as he desperately blinked the tears away, making an effort to maintain a nonchalant tone so that Jin Jiuchi wouldn’t pick up on his vulnerability. "They’re cute, unlike you."

"Wha—" Jin Jiuchi sputtered in disbelief. "How are they cute?! Nian’er, do you like them more than me now?!"

Shen Nianzu couldn’t resist an amused snort upon hearing the sour note on his tone. He could literally see Jin Jiuchi scrunching up his face with his bottom lip jutted into a pout right now. Goodness, how could he be so adorable? Why would he even get jealous of his own self? The look in Shen Nianzu’s eyes softened, so did his heart that was brimming with longing. Instead of answering that ridiculous question, he chose to say, "Come here soon. I will be waiting."

"Oh!" Jin Jiuchi’s attention was quickly diverted as he responded in a loud voice, "Nian’er can count on me. I will be there before you know it!"

The communication was cut off soon after, leaving Shen Nianzu to grapple with the abrupt sense of loss. "Wait—" he began, only to realize that he couldn’t hear anything more from the other side.

Stupid husky! Shen Nianzu cursed his boyfriend inside his heart. Couldn’t they keep up the communication until he reached the hospital? Did Jin Jiuchi not realize how much Shen Nianzu had missed listening to his voice?! Moreover, there were still so many questions he wanted to ask, such as his abrupt disappearance in ’Echo of the Past’, how the two tiny Jin Jiuchis could appear in this Cycle, and whether they were—

The train of Shen Nianzu’s thoughts abruptly screeched to a halt when he noticed two pairs of round eyes fixed on him like hawks. He cleared his throat awkwardly. Since when did they rouse awake? How much had they heard? And hey, what’s with that look they were giving him? Those slightly accusing gazes and plump lips puckered into a sullen pout... they looked exactly like the big-sized Jin Jiuchi!

"You’re up?" Shen Nianzu let out a dry laugh to dispel the tense atmosphere lingering in the air. "Why didn’t you two sleep longer?"

"Nian’er is sad," the silver-haired Jin Jiuchi pointed out, followed seamlessly by his twin. "Is it because of him? Our other self?"

Shen Nianzu’s jaws dropped in shock. "Y–You guys..." he looked at them back and forth. "You are aware of his existence?"

"Of course," the two of them responded with a matter-of-fact tone. "As soon as he stepped foot in this realm, we sensed him. I’m sure he sensed us as well. But..."

They exchanged a look and wrinkled their little noses with such an identical manner that Shen Nianzu had the strong urge to pinch their cheeks if it weren’t for his bound hands. "But he makes Nian’er sad, so we don’t like him."

Hearing that, Shen Nianzu was torn between laughter and tears. What was with their mutual dislike towards one another? Furthermore, these two versions of Jin Jiuchi could actually detect each other’s presence? Shen Nianzu’s memory drifted back to the time when Jin Jiuchi mentioned he could sense himself inside the ’Echo of the Past’. So the one he was talking about was not his other selves from any iteration, but these two dumplings here?

Exactly who were these two? Jin Jiuchi who had regressed to the past or... a fragment of Jin Jiuchi’s missing soul?

Well, Shen Nianzu might be able to find the answers once he kidnapped the twins away from this place.

For now, though...

Looking at the two sulking children, he had the urge to laugh again. "He doesn’t make me sad," he explained with a helpless tone. "That’s why, there’s no need for you to despise him. I like you – all of you." A gentle smile curved upon his lips, causing the two dumplings’ eyes to widen in shock.

The black-haired one immediately cleared his throat and averted his gaze, a suspicious tint of red on his earlobes. "If you put it like that..."

"Nian’er is so pretty..." the silver-haired one murmured in a daze.

Now it was Shen Nianzu’s turn to feel embarrassed. Why did they look so... besotted, when he had not even done anything at all? It seemed like some things would never change no matter how much time had passed. But before he could say anything in response, the two children’s eyes immediately snapped toward the door, their expressions turning alert.

"It’s the officer! He’s coming this way!"

Shen Nianzu tensed up as he recalled the man who exuded an intense and formidable aura. What was the officer coming here for? Didn’t the two Jin Jiuchis say that they would most likely be released after a week? However, Shen Nianzu couldn’t deny that this situation worked well in his favor. He was just thinking about how he could come into contact with Noir again, and an opportunity really presented itself before his eyes.

"Aqua." With a murmur, Shen Nianzu discreetly summoned his divine prop. The palm-sized exquisite mermaid materialized from thin air, nuzzling him on the cheek.

The two dumplings stared with their eyes wide in curiosity at the new creature that had popped out of nowhere, but Shen Nianzu had no time to explain, not when he could also hear the footsteps approaching the room.

He gave Aqua a resolute nod, "Go."

So far, what Shen Nianzu knew about Noir’s divine prop, Lucius, was that it had the ability to transform into a spear. But now that Shen Nianzu had acquired his own divine prop, he became certain that Noir was still hiding his true strength because aside from giving Shen Nianzu the ability to breathe underwater and transform into a merman, Aqua could also use his skill card, albeit it would draw energy from his body. Fortunately, this skill came in handy in the current situation.

As the approaching footsteps halted in front of the door, Aqua leapt down from the bed and vanished into thin air, returning to her domain. Then when the door swung open, she immediately seized the opportunity to slip outside.

I will have to rely on you, Aqua! Please help me find Noir!

Shen Nianzu breathed a sigh of relief when he saw that everything was going as planned, but now he also had his own battle to fight.

His entire body tensed in vigilance as he sensed the officer’s gaze on him, and he clenched his fists, ready to summon his blade if the need arose. The man still carried the same intimidating aura as earlier and his face remained blurred, much like the ripples on the surface of a lake after a stone had been thrown in.

The two dumplings merely blinked at the officer, unfazed. "What brings you here? Can we go out now?"

The officer did not deign to reply to them. Instead, he stepped into the room, and it was only then that Shen Nianzu noticed he was carrying a huge plastic bag in his hand. "It’s been four days since you last ate, isn’t it?"

A foul odor hit Shen Nianzu on the face, almost causing his stomach to churn. He stared at the officer in disbelief, and even though he couldn’t discern the man’s appearance, somehow he could tell that he was grinning maliciously.

"It’s feeding time," the officer declared.
