Chapter 300: Ha, Take That!

Gu Luoxin’s breath hitched on his throat, his eyes widening in fluster. I–It was their turn now? How could it be so fast?! He had been so caught up in the whirlwind of Noir’s unexpected apology that he forgot to prepare himself mentally for the bath they were going to take together.

Oh dear Lord in Heaven, how was he supposed to survive past this?!

He swallowed hard and gingerly turned his neck, only to be startled when he was met with Noir’s emerald eyes which had been fixed on him since God-knows-when. His heart was pounding so violently that it felt as though it was going to leap out of the ribcage and he subconsciously pressed it down as though attempting to prevent it from escaping. He forced out a laugh, "I–It seems like Da Shen and Xiao Shen have finished their bath. Great God, do you... do you want to go first? It’s okay, I’m not cold. I can wait—"

"You go," Noir interrupted him mid-sentence, causing his mind to turn blank.

"Huh?"

"You go," the man repeated, and then added. "I don’t like hot springs."

Gu Luoxin stared at him for one long moment before realization abruptly dawned on him. That’s right, how could he have forgotten this important fact? In the previous Cycle, Noir had gotten sick as soon as he arrived in the City of Atlantis to the point where Gu Luoxin thought he was going to die; that was the extent of his aversion to water! It was natural for him to refuse the hot spring! Gu Luoxin’s overactive mind started to wonder whether the man had always put on a reluctant look every single time he had to take a bath for purely hygiene reasons, but all of those thoughts abruptly screeched to a halt once a question popped up in his mind.

If Noir had not planned to enter the hot spring in the first place, then why had he told Shen Nianzu that he would enter with Gu Luoxin?

Had he, by any chance, utter those words just to turn Gu Luoxin into a nervous wreck?!

The more he thought about it, the more plausible it seemed. After all, this man was a sadist through and through! However, unwilling to jump into baseless conclusions, Gu Luoxin plastered a strained smile on his face and decided to ask, "You’re really not going? But earlier you said that..."

Noir let out a soft ’ah’ as understanding flashed through his eyes. With a tone that couldn’t be more casual, he remarked, "I said it just for fun. Don’t take it to heart."

Gu Luoxin: !!!

J–Just for fun? Don’t take it to heart?!!

How dare he! Did he not know how flustered Gu Luoxin was when he heard those words?! No, he must have known, that’s why he chose to do this!

Hot anger sizzled in Gu Luoxin’s heart. He had the urge to bare his teeth and pound on his chest, roaring like his cyan kingkong. The grievance and resentment bubbled within him and gave birth to a sudden impulse. No, he could not take this lying down. Today, he had to let Noir know that he, Gu Luoxin, was not a pushover whom he could toy around as he pleased!

When he felt the furry sensation of Lucius’ tail brushing against his cheek, a brilliant idea sparked in Gu Luoxin’s mind. Not giving himself a chance to second-guess, he pulled Lucius down from his shoulders, held it tightly in his arms and tickled the back of its soft ear!

Lucius immediately narrowed its eyes in bliss and purred from its throat, its entire body melting into a puddle. In contrast, Noir looked visibly shaken and tensed up. Surprise and faint disbelief flickered across his features, as though he had not expected Gu Luoxin to pull such a stunt on him.

Ha, take that!

Gu Luoxin really wanted to laugh out loud now. Alas, for fear of any karmic retribution that came in the form of Noir, he tucked his smile away and placed Lucius on the ground before turning away with satisfaction.

"I’m ready to enjoy the hot spring!" He joyfully declared to his two teammates.

When Gu Luoxin finished his bath ten minutes later, Shen Nianzu, Jin Jiuchi and Noir were already gathered around a small fire they had managed to kindle. An appetizing smell wafted in the air, causing Gu Luoxin’s stomach to growl. He floated over and plopped himself down on the empty space, his gaze greedily surveying the roasted jerky and the pasta bubbling inside the pot.

"Wow, it looks so good..." he exclaimed and wiped away the drool on the corner of his mouth. "Wait, where did this pot come from?"

"My prop," Shen Nianzu responded as he focused on turning the jerky so that it would not be burnt black. "I’ve been through a Cycle in the wilderness before, and these things were lifesavers." He blew on the sizzling beef jerky and brought it to Jin Jiuchi’s mouth, who promptly chomped it down and munched it with a blissful look.

"How is it?" he asked softly.

Jin Jiuchi flashed a thumbs-up. "Hmm, it’s so good, Nian’er! Still perfectly edible!"

Gu Luoxin stared at Jin Jiuchi with his eyes green with envy. Ah ah ah, he also wanted to eat! Alas, the leader had not given the signal yet, so he dared not make a move otherwise he would have fought tooth and nail with Jin Jiuchi over the beef jerky.

He cast a glance at Noir beside him and found that the man’s gaze was also fixated on the bubbling pot, the words ’want to eat’ almost plastered across his forehead. Somehow, looking at him like this reminded Gu Luoxin of a kitty cat who was waiting eagerly for its poop shoveling official to serve it food, and he couldn’t help but snicker lightly.

When Noir’s gaze moved to him, he quickly turned his head with a whoosh and complained to the Boss, "Xiao Shen, how much longer do we have to wait? I’m famished!"

Shen Nianzu opened the lid of the pot and stirred the pasta inside before nodding. "En, it should be ready now. Let’s eat."

The four of them divided the food equally and wolfed it down like a horde of hungry ghosts. Apparently, the cold weather would always amplify hunger, making the simple meal feel like a sumptuous feast. They polished off everything within minutes, and with a wave of Shen Nianzu’s hand, all the dirty pots and plates instantly vanished without a trace. How convenient!

Shortly after, Shen Nianzu spoke up, "We should rest for a bit. For the first half of the night, Da Shen and I will keep watch, and for the second half, Xinxin and Noir. How about—"

His words were abruptly cut off when Jin Jiuchi sat up with an alert expression, almost at the same time as Noir informed them, "Someone is approaching us."

Jin Jiuchi nodded, "I can only hear the footsteps of one person."

Both Shen Nianzu and Gu Luoxin immediately raised their vigilance. Someone was coming their way in the midst of this heavy downpour? Gu Luoxin strained his ears to listen, but he could hear nothing other than the loud pitter patter of raindrops against their temporary roof.

A moment later, the talismans also alerted Shen Nianzu of the intruder who had entered the radar, "One person and it’s..." he paused, a subtle furrow marring his brows. "...Ying?"
