Chapter 270: Meow For Me
Chapter 270: Meow For Me
"Of course," Gu Luoxin giggled, playfully kicking his legs like a child. "Or else how could you send me home?"
Somehow, he could sense a profound helplessness radiating from the emerald-eyed man. In spite of that, he said nothing in the end and retrieved a key instead. Gu Luoxin’s eyes widened in astonishment as he recognized it to be the key to his room. He looked around to find that his bag was now in Noir’s hand. He must have taken it out from there. But when...?
Forget it, this was merely a dream and anything could happen, so why fuss over the details?
He remained on Noir’s back as the man unlocked the door and stepped inside. He merely cast a faint glance over the cyan-colored items all over the room before walking over to the bed and dumping Gu Luoxin there unceremoniously. "Oof!" Gu Luoxin let out a yelp as his back met the mattress with a slight thump, followed by a cascade of giggles he could not suppress.
When Noir turned to walk away, seemingly done with everything, Gu Luoxin instantly sprung up and grabbed hold of the hem of his shirt. "W–Wait!"
Noir glanced back with a questioning look on his face, and Gu Luoxin hesitated for a moment before asking, his voice trembling ever so slightly, "Are you leaving now? Will you not appear in my dream anymore?" He opened his eyes wide to make himself more pitiful. Somehow, faking tears seemed easier in this dream, so in a blink of an eye, his round and clear eyes were wet with glistening tears.
Noir appeared a little speechless at his drunken antics, "I’m going to get you some water."
"Oh, oh!" Gu Luoxin’s tears dried up as swiftly as they had appeared, and a smile returned to his face. When Noir handed him the water bottle from the table, he obediently reached out to take it. But at the last moment, Noir suddenly withdrew his hand, causing him to grab onto nothing but thin air. "Huh?" Gu Luoxin gazed at him, confused.
"Are you thirsty?" Noir asked lightly.
"Yes...?" Gu Luoxin’s answer came out more like a question. He couldn’t understand why Noir was asking such a question. He had been singing energetically all the way here, so wasn’t it natural for him to be thirsty?
However, as if not satisfied with the answer, Noir asked again, "Do you want to drink water?"
Gu Luoxin nodded like chicken pecking rice, still puzzled. "I want."
In the very next moment, he saw the faintest ghost of a smile tugging at Noir’s lips, so subtle that it was barely discernible. "Then meow for me."
What?
Gu Luoxin’s jaws dropped in sheer astonishment and he could only stare at the man as if he had just sprouted two heads. W–What did he just say? Haha, he must have heard wrong, right? How was it possible for Noir to ask him to... meow? But then, Gu Luoxin suddenly recalled that this was the same person who had bullied Ariel in the Cycle until the poor fish’s soul almost flew out of her body. Not only that, he had also deliberately dropped Gu Luoxin from the height of a few meters above the sea!
In other words, he was a sadist through and through!
Gu Luoxin’s face crumpled like a bitter gourd, on the verge of tears, "This is my dream. Do you have to be so mean?!"
"Precisely because this is a dream," the curve on Noir’s lips deepened. "You can’t possibly order me around without giving anything in return, right?"
Gu Luoxin was taken aback by that logic, and his alcohol-addled brain oddly thought that the man’s words made some sense. After all, Noir had not left him stranded on the street, he had brought him all the way here and even fetched him a water bottle. And what had he asked in return? Only for Gu Luoxin to meow! It... It was not difficult at all! Besides, this was a dream, so he shouldn’t care too much about his pride or dignity whatsoever. Right?
Noir waited patiently for him to finish his contemplation as he dangled the water bottle in front of his face as though tempting a hungry dog with a piece of fragrant meat. Gu Luoxin swallowed audibly and parted his trembling lips, cheeks burning hot, "...meow."
A mirthful smile spread across Noir’s face as he handed the water bottle over. "Good," he praised. "It’s not too difficult, is it?"
Gu Luoxin nodded in a daze, taking a few sips to soothe his dry throat. Noir looked very aloof and unapproachable if he was not smiling, but once he did, it was like a whole field of flowers were blooming behind him. He looked so dazzling that Gu Luoxin felt like he could go blind.
Lost in his thoughts, he blurted out without thinking, "You’re so handsome..."
Noir merely blinked at him with nary a fluctuation on his face.
But Gu Luoxin was undeterred by the lack of reaction and continued to blabber, "Your clothes look like they have been tailored just for you, and you always manage to stand out from the crowd. Not to mention your sculpture..." he let out a dreamy sigh upon recalling the fallen angel. "It must be the most beautiful in the whole world. So exquisite, yet also so sad..."
Noir inquired, his tone betrayed none of the emotions he was feeling within, "How many sculptures have you seen in your lifetime?"
"To be honest," Gu Luoxin replied with a blink, his head getting fuzzier by each passing second. Weird, why was he so sleepy all of a sudden? "Today is the first time. I wasn’t really interested in them before."
A faint quirk tugged at the corner of Noir’s lips and he sounded extremely amused, "So today is your first exhibition, and you’re already claiming mine the most beautiful?"
The man’s voice sounded muffled when it reached Gu Luoxin’s ears as though separated by a layer of water. Gu Luoxin did not quite catch it, nor did he particularly care about Noir’s response. He simply wanted to express his feelings, to let the man know how much he admired and respected him, even though this was nothing more than a dream.
No, it was even better now that this was a dream.
His eyes were glazed as he murmured, "Your eyes are also the most beautiful I have ever seen, and your hair... ugh, I really really want to touch your hair! Is it as soft as Lucius’ fur, or even more? I should have touched it earlier, but I didn’t dare to..." he released a sigh full of pity and regret.
Suddenly recalling that the black cat had been absent along the journey, he looked around in confusion, "Huh, where is Little Ancestor? Why haven’t I seen it? Wait a moment, let me summon it!" He squeezed his eyes shut and concentrated on visualizing Lucius in his mind, trying to materialize the black cat out of thin air. However, when he opened his eyes, he still could not find any signs of Lucius around.
"Why?" Gu Luoxin’s entire person was shrouded in a dejected aura. "Isn’t this my dream? Why isn’t it working?"
Noir shook his head helplessly, "You really dare to say anything..." he approached the bed and pinched Gu Luoxin’s chin to lift his head. Caught off guard by this unexpected action, Gu Luoxin could only stare into his emerald eyes in a daze. Just as he was marveling at how captivating they were at such proximity, he heard Noir say, "I appreciate your feelings, but do not come looking for me again in the future. Don’t indulge in Lucius’ whims too. If he comes to you, just ignore him."
Gu Luoxin stared at him blankly, his mind struggling to process the meaning of those words. But Noir did not give him the chance to. He pushed Gu Luoxin’s head down onto the bed and commanded, "Sleep." And as if he had been put under a spell, Gu Luoxin immediately closed his eyes and succumbed into the realm of unconsciousness.
When he woke up again, the sky outside was already bright and he found himself alone in his dorm room. He lay still for a moment, trying to piece together how he had made it back here, when the last words Noir told him reverberated in his mind.
Feeling extremely aggrieved, he dialed Shen Nianzu’s number without even thinking to vent all of his sadness and anger. However, Shen Nianzu ended up getting distracted by Jin Jiuchi in the middle of the conversation, so he drifted off to sleep again after his calls were ignored a few times in a row. It was not until the second call with Shen Nianzu at ten in the morning that he fully recollected every single detail from the previous night, frame by frame, including his embarrassing confessions.
Especially that!
Dear Lord in Heaven, he had not just clung to Noir as he pleased, meow-ed for him, but he... he also praised his clothes, his hair, his eyes, his sculpture – literally everything! What difference did it make from a literal confession?!
Other people would usually forget everything that happened to them when they got drunk, so why did he have to remember everything with a terrifying clarity?!!
"Why?!" He buried his face into the pillow and let out a muffled scream, wishing that he could slap himself from the previous night to oblivion. "Why am I so stupid ahhh!! He must think that I’m a total creep, that’s why he warned me to stay away from Lucius! Wuwuwu, he is not a jerk, it’s me! I am the perverted one!"
"This is what I have been meaning to tell you earlier," Shen Nianzu let out a somewhat amused yet helpless sigh. "It’s no wonder he gave you that warning, given how you were constantly petting and hugging Lucius as you please."
Those words managed to jolt Gu Luoxin out of his frenzied state and curb his urge to find the highest rooftop to jump down from. "What... What do you mean?" He stammered, an ominous foreboding brewing in his chest.
"Lucius is, after all, a divine prop bound to Noir. As you know, divine prop has their own consciousness. Being bound means that their emotions, especially the more intense ones, will be transferred to their owner," Shen Nianzu finally revealed the shocking revelation. "Do you get it? Everytime you stroke, pinch, or knead the black cat, if it feels particularly pleased, comfortable or content, the sensation will be transmitted to Noir. I’m not really certain about this since it hasn’t been long since I acquired one, but it seems like we are able to share visions as well."
Gu Luoxin’s eyes widened in sheer disbelief, it was as if an explosion had gone off in his mind. Then, as though his own brain was betraying him, he began to recall all the moments he had cradled Lucius in his arms, nuzzled his face in its soft belly, stroking its fur, kneading its paws, and oh... he had even shoved it inside his hoodie yesterday...
The memory of Lucius’ stunned reaction rushed to the forefront of his mind. Surely, it ought to be included in the ’more intense emotion’, right? So that meant, Noir also...
Gu Luoxin’s eyes abruptly turned dark. All at once, he seemed to comprehend why the man downright avoided him during their first encounter in the exhibition hall yesterday.
Wuwuwu, where could he find the highest rooftop around? He had to jump down and cleanse himself of this black history!!!
