Chapter 192: Danger Of The Deep Sea
The four players instantly took on a defensive stance, ready to fight back against the formidable deep sea creature. However, to their surprise, it acted as if it did not sense their presence and bypassed them, its ravenous gaze fixed solely on the terrified mermaid. The creature had its sight set on Ariel all along!
"AHHH!" Ariel shrieked in horror, remembering all too well the sharpness of the creature’s teeth when they had scraped across her tail before. She would have been finished for sure if she had not been fast enough to escape and coincidentally swept into the violent churns of the whirlpool! Dodging the fish’s razor sharp teeth, she cried out desperately, "Help... help me!"
The four players were taken aback, not expecting the creature to dismiss their presence just like that. But then, as they assessed the situation, a single thought echoed in their minds— ’Damn, even this one here covets the mermaid!’
With black lines all over his forehead, Shen Nianzu took the lead, slashing his long transparent blade at the creature’s massive body while it was still focused on chasing after Ariel. The creature bled from the wound and spasmed in pain before swiftly spinning around to face Shen Nianzu with furious eyes. But before it could lunge at him, Gu Luoxin quickly struck, driving his dagger right into its stomach!
Its tail trashed wildly and smacked Gu Luoxin in the middle, sending him hurtling towards a rocky wall. Gu Luoxin’s eyes widened in alarm and he tried to flail his limbs to lessen the impact, so as to not slam full force against the wall. Who was he kidding? The surface of the wall was made of jagged rocks. If he were to crash onto it, he would have broken at least two or three ribs for sure!
Alas, the force of that fish tail was too strong, and he could not find a grip on anything for support. Just as he was about to summon his kingkong and let its body cushion his collision, all of a sudden, someone came to his rescue, grabbing his outstretched hand and yanking him forward!
As a result, he knocked onto a solid and hard wall— ah no, it was Noir’s chest.
Gu Luoxin snapped his head in surprise, not expecting the man to be the one who saved him. After the prank Noir had pulled on him earlier, Gu Luoxin’s feelings towards him became extremely complicated. He was akin to a timid mouse who had encountered a cat, fearing that he would be toyed with and eaten clean. Granted, who wouldn’t be scared after being tossed down from hundreds of meters above the sea?
Even now, as he realized that it was Noir who had rescued him, he was prepared for the man to throw him against the wall with his own hand! As it turned out, he had been thinking too much, Noir did not even spare him a glance and simply let go of his hand. Taken aback, Gu Luoxin was about to offer his gratitude when he noticed that Noir’s complexion seemed off. W–What’s wrong? Was the Great God feeling unwell?
In the midst of the battle scene, the fish creature was played back and forth by Shen Nianzu and Jin Jiuchi, who had taken the form of a dog again. Shen Nianzu fiercely swung his blade at it once, but before it could attack him, Jin Jiuchi would chomp down on its translucent fins and ferociously tore it apart, causing the creature to bleed profusely!
In the end, it was enraged by Jin Jiuchi who had dealt the greatest damage to its body. It even ignored Shen Nianzu’s attack and bore with it in lieu of chasing after Jin Jiuchi!
’Oh no!’ Shen Nianzu’s alarm bells rang as he watched the furious fish intent on devouring Jin Jiuchi. No matter how hard Jin Jiuchi paddled its paws, he was no match for a creature in its natural habitat. In a flash, the creature loomed over Jin Jiuchi and opened its jaws wide to bite him!
Something inside Shen Nianzu’s mind exploded at the sight. With a speed he had no idea he was capable of before, he dived through the water, his transparent blade crackling with icy purple energy. Unleashing all of his strength, he brought the blade down and cut the creature neatly into two!
The sudden display of power left not just Jin Jiuchi, Gu Luoxin, and Noir stunned, but even Shen Nianzu himself was taken aback.
He had attacked the creature a few times before and thus he was fully aware that despite its translucent skin, it was actually very elastic and difficult to pierce into, especially with a long blade underwater. But just now, he had not only severely injured the creature, but had also chopped it into two in an almost effortless manner!
Was it because of the sight of Jin Jiuchi in danger, and he was thus forced to break his limit? Yes, that was the only reason Shen Nianzu could think of.
For a moment, silence engulfed the cave as crimson blood spurted out of the creature’s remnants to stain the water around them, slowly sinking into the depths of the darkness.
Jin Jiuchi was utterly exhilarated, his little dog heart pounding hard and fast. Nian’er had just saved him! Nian’er was so cool and powerful! Unable to bear the distance between them anymore, he moved his paws quickly, waddling through the water towards Shen Nianzu, intending to give the jade doll a big and passionate hug.
However, before he could reach him, someone beat him to it!
Ariel rushed forward and threw her dainty arms around Shen Nianzu, crying out in relief and gratitude, "T–Thank you, thank you so much! You have saved me—ah!" She jerked backward when a sharp pain tore into her tail, and she whipped around in shock to see Jin Jiuchi growling fiercely at her while brandishing his sharp claws!
Jin Jiuchi swiftly bit down on Shen Nianzu’s sleeve and dragged his jade doll away, all the while glaring at the aggrieved and indignant mermaid. What was she being so touchy-feely for?! How dare she touched Nian’er as she pleased?!
Irritated, Jin Jiuchi gripped Shen Nianzu’s shoulders and turned the man to face him, then he began to rub himself all over Shen Nianzu’s body where Ariel had touched him, as though doing this would erase the traces of her touch on him. Not fully satisfied, Jin Jiuchi even flicked out his tongue to lick him!
Shen Nianzu’s eyes widened when he felt the wet and coarse sensation of Jin Jiuchi’s tongue licking across his chest and collarbones. Feeling as if electricity was zipping down his spine, he hurriedly scrambled backward and glared at Jin Jiuchi in mortification. W–What was this damned husky thinking, casually licking him on that sensitive spot? Did he have a death wish or something?! It was fortunate that their surroundings were dark and could hide the blush on his cheeks, otherwise Shen Nianzu would have beat this dumb husky to a pulp for this sexual harassment!
Subsequently, no matter how much Jin Jiuchi whined and acted pitiful, Shen Nianzu refused to let him get close. Just as Ariel was going to mock him about it, Shen Nianzu also ruthlessly gestured for her to keep a distance between them!
In the end, one dog and one fish could only follow behind Shen Nianzu dejectedly as they continued on their journey across the cave, with Gu Luoxin and Noir trailing behind.
Gu Luoxin couldn’t help but sneak a few glances at Noir. Even though the emerald-eyed man did not act unusual, Gu Luoxin still couldn’t shake off the feeling that something was off with him, and it made him pay closer attention to the man.
The effect of their underwater breathing pills soon expired and the trio quickly popped another one into their mouths. The cave was teeming with a variety of colorful fish and once in a while, they would even spot humongous fishes that were deep in slumber on the ocean floors, but fortunately, they were no longer attacked, presumably because the others could detect the scent of blood on them.
The passage seemed endless as they swam through the cave, until at one point of time, they emerged into another part of the vast sea. Ariel’s azure eyes lit up and she blurted out in excitement, "W–We are close, I can feel it! We have almost arrived!"
After Shen Nianzu relayed the news to others, excitement was palpable in the air as renewed energy coursed through them, prompting them to swim forward a little faster. They had been underwater for over thirty minutes. Even with the aid of breathing pills, their energy was nearly depleted and they couldn’t wait to get to their destination as soon as possible!
Alas, it was this eagerness that caused them to lower their guard too soon, failing to notice the impending danger that lurked ahead.
The first to sense it was actually Lucius. The cat, which had been lying comfortably in Gu Luoxin’s arms, suddenly sprung up and let out a sharp hiss, its fur poofing like a ball.
However, it was too late by the time they realized what was going on.
A colossal shadow loomed above them, plunging them into darkness. Shocked, they raised their heads and found themselves face to face with a gigantic gaping maw, ready to devour them whole! The massive creature was none other than a gigantic whale, appearing to have come out in search of a meal!
"NOO—!" Ariel thrashed her tail, trying to swim away but the powerful suction of the whale’s mouth was too much for her to resist, let alone the four players.
Shen Nianzu’s eyes flew wide in horror and the last thing he saw was Jin Jiuchi desperately reaching out to him before the whale clamped its jaws shut, swallowing them down its cavernous throat!
