Chapter 183: Divine Prop
Chapter 183: Divine Prop
Gu Luoxin was helping Jin Jiuchi back to his feet when he witnessed Shen Nianzu’s abrupt crash to the ground.
The impact was so forceful; it was like the wheel of a heavy truck rolling over a large puddle, splashing dirty water in every direction. After that, Shen Nianzu remained ominously still for two full seconds, while their target, Captain Rick, seemed to grow more distant with each passing moment.
’It’s over!’ Gu Luoxin thought with a surge of panic.
For some reason, even though Shen Nianzu did not move, Gu Luoxin seemed to see an increasingly dark and menacing aura emanating from the man’s body. His heart trembled in fright and his grip on Jin Jiuchi unintentionally loosened, which resulted in the man slipping and tumbling to the ground for the second time.
"Pua—hey!" Jin Jiuchi propped himself up and wiped the sticky disgusting liquid from his face, annoyed. "What was that for?!"
But then, Jin Jiuchi’s attention was soon diverted to Shen Nianzu, his eyes widening in shock. "Nian’er!" He stumbled forward to peel the flat pancake jade doll off the floor. "Are you o—pff." Brief laughter spilled out of his lips when he saw Shen Nianzu’s messy state that resembled a wet grumpy kitten, and though he promptly held himself back, the mirth and schadenfreude in his different colored eyes could not be concealed.
The raging flames in Shen Nianzu’s heart instantly exploded and he slapped Jin Jiuchi’s paw away from him, seething, "You still dare to laugh?!"
"How can I?!" Jin Jiuchi gasped dramatically, albeit the grin on his face only grew wided and wider. "Look at me. Aren’t we in the same state now?"
Fuming in indignation, Shen Nianzu retrieved his handkerchief to wipe his face, neck and arms. Nothing could be done anymore about his clothes, so he resolved to burn them to crisp at the earliest opportunity. As much as he wanted to have a go with Jin Jiuchi right here and now and pummel the damned husky to the ground for laughing at his misfortune, he knew that this was not the right place and occasion for it. He was the more mature, logical and magnanimous person between them, so he would let Jin Jiuchi off the hook for now! Hmph!
Catching up to them, Gu Luoxin asked anxiously as he eyed Captain Rick, "What should we do? He almost reaches my room!"
First and foremost, they had to find a way to deal with the space distortion, and only then could they get rid of the Captain. But the question was— how? Even Shen Nianzu, the most powerful one among them, couldn’t break through with brute force, so the likelihood that Jin Jiuchi or Gu Luoxin could do it was even lower.
Just as the trio was stuck in this perilous state, the door to the room Ariel was in suddenly swung open! They had not even recovered from the shock yet when the next second, a red-haired and azure-tailed mermaid came crawling out!
Ariel had been taking a restless nap in the bathtub when she heard a commotion outside the door. She had been left alone for hours, and the uncertain situation made her unable to stay put any longer. That’s why when she noticed that the ruckus outside not only did not stop but escalated instead, she finally decided to climb out of the bathtub and crawl her way out of the room!
Alas, who would expect that as soon as she turned her head, she would see Captain Rick, whose eyes lit up in greed as soon as he saw her?
Chills permeated Ariel’s heart and her instinct screamed at her, telling her to escape as far away as possible! With a shriek, she turned to the opposite direction and used the sticky substance to aid her escape!
Looking at this scene, only one thought remained in the trio’s mind:
’Miss core NPC, can’t you just remain obediently in the bathtub? You’re literally feeding yourself to the lion’s mouth!’
"Ah, ah, ah! She’s going to get devoured by another person!"
"Damn it, let’s go!"
The trio dashed forward with renewed strength, but no matter how fast they were, the distance between them and Captain Rick only expanded, whereas the man was steadily inching closer on the weak and helpless mermaid.
Shen Nianzu’s heart sank into the pit of his stomach. They must not let Ariel fall into the Captain’s hands, or else their mission would definitely be deemed a failure! Just as he was about to throw all caution to the wind and activate his skill card in this narrow and unsuitable place, all of a sudden, he caught sight of a familiar figure emerging from the other end of the hallway.
It was none other than Noir!
Gu Luoxin’s eyes lit up in relief, and he cried out, "Great God, please save Ariel!"
At a glance, Noir managed to grasp the gravity of the situation. However, the reason why he was able to break through the space distortion last time was because he utilized both of his wings to their maximum strength. But in this narrow hallway, he could only extend one side of his wings at most, which severely reduced his fighting power. He could have forcibly used his wings, but that would lead to disastrous consequences— the ship might even tear apart and sink!
Apparently, the same concern also crossed Shen Nianzu’s mind, and his face darkened, "Not good. He can’t use his skill card here!"
The other two were taken aback, as they had assumed that Ariel’s safety was pretty much guaranteed with Noir here. "Wait, why?!"
However, there was no time for explanations. By now, Captain Rick was already looming behind Ariel, his hand extended towards the mermaid!
The corner of Noir’s lips twitched and he grabbed Lucius by the scruff. "I will have to trouble you this time."
"Mroow..." Lucius’ long tail hung down despondently as if surrendering to its bleak fate.
With nary a hesitation, Noir hurled his black cat toward Captain Rick with all of his might!
A terrified scream escaped Gu Luoxin’s lips as he watched Lucius hurtle straight at the Captain. His heart leapt to his throat and he instinctively wanted to close his eyes, unable to bear witnessing the outcome. But everything happened in a blur, so fast that he did not even have the time to blink. One second Lucius was still a soft and little black cat, then the next second... it suddenly transformed into a gleaming shaft of black spear! Its sharp tip tore into the barrier of the space distortion and stabbed Captain Rick right on his chest!
Noir’s strength was so formidable that the spear pierced the Captain’s body and came out again through his back. Blood spurted out like a fountain from to drench Ariel, eliciting a high-pitched scream from the latter. Captain Rick staggered backward and looked down at his own chest with a disbelieving look, blood trickling down his lips.
"What..."
That was the only word he could utter before he collapsed to the ground and breathed his last, his bloodshot eyes oozing with unwillingness and hatred. Even in his last moment, he could not fathom why he failed when victory had been so close at reach.
Shortly after, Lucius transformed back into his cat form, sat on top of the Captain’s lifeless body and licked his bloody paw, a perfect picture of nonchalance and grace.
Prop: Grimcat Halbert
Prop Level: Divine
Prop Usage: Beneath the moon, a feline’s visage charms, but in shadows, its true form disarms. A reaper’s enigma wrapped in fur, embrace the dual face it wields with poise.

Let alone Jin Jiuchi and Gu Luoxin, even Shen Nianzu was shocked by this display of prowess. This adorable and soft little kitty... might be even stronger than them?!

A/N: I forgot whether I have explained it in the story or not *please forgive this unreliable author QAQ* but there are five levels of the prop: Common – Valuable – Unique – Epic – Divine. So Lucius is the highest level prop there is! As for why a prop can be bound to player, it will be explained in future Chapters~
