WHEN THE SEA CALLS
Chapter 62: Aquamarine is Back!

Chapter 62: Aquamarine is Back!

Reece went on to find the necklace but couldn’t find it.

"Are you sure you lost it here?" Reece asked.

"I am sure I did," Rhea answered.

She was still seated on the bench wondering who placed the new seashells on her usual path.

"I feel so tired right now. I should rest for a while. But don’t worry. I will make sure I find it."

Rhea chuckled. What will Reece do if he finds out she did not lose any necklace and she is only doing that to make him pay for stressing her?

"Why are you chuckling?" Reece asked, moving close to her.

"You should wash your hands over there," Rhea said.

Reece went to wash his hands and returned to join Rhea on the bench.

"Is there something on my face?" Reece asked Rhea who began to chuckle when she saw him.

Rhea shook her head. There isn’t anything on his face. She is just laughing at how gullible he is right now.

"Tell me why won’t you stop laughing?"

"I am not laughing."

"Of course you are."

Rhea chuckled slightly. Thank goodness Reece cannot read her mind. Or he would have found out what she did to him.

Reece sighed. Rhea won’t tell him why she is laughing and he already promised not to read her thoughts without her permission.

He can as well forget about it.

"I see you carry a bag. Do you have a bottle of water there?" Reece asked instead.

"Are you thirsty?" Rhea asked and Reece nodded.

Rhea opened her bag and brought out the bottle of water she had kept in it. Reece saw a bottle of milk in it.

"I see you have a bottle of milk too."

"I am not giving you that," Rhea mumbled. "You want water and you will get that."

"I am not asking you to give it to me. I am only curious to know why you came with it. You also have a pack of... Is that biscuits or cookies?" Reece pointed.

"It’s a pack of cookies. Celia made them. Do you care for some? It’s very nice."

Reece nodded. He will not mind having some. After all, Rhea is the one who offered them to him.

"But why did you bring them here? Do you plan to stay here for a long time?"

Rhea nodded. She had prepared some snacks and drinks because she wanted to stay here until late evening. She doesn’t know when she will be able to come here again, so she decided to stay for a longer time this time.

"Are you really here to find your necklace, Rhea? Why do I feel like there is more to that?"

Rhea sighed. "Fine. I am not only here to find my necklace. I love to come to this place, but now it belongs to you, and you do not want me here. So..."

"So you lied about your necklace?"

Rhea blinked. Does Reece know the truth, or is he only asking?

"Of course, I am here to find my..."

"The necklace in your neck?" Reece asked.

Rhea touched the necklace on her neck and chuckled slightly.

"When did you find out I was lying?"

"I saw the necklace on your neck on our way here. But I thought the one you are looking for could be different. I was also skeptical about finding it when I saw you seated so comfortably, instead of finding it. You would have been anxious if you were actually looking for it but you were not."

Rhea smiled. "Why did you not ask me about it?"

"I wanted to see what you are up to. Can’t believe you actually lied to me. You are such a silly girl." Reece rubbed Rhea’s hair slightly.

Rhea frowned. "Hey! You are going to mess my hair up."

"That is for stressing me out," Reece answered. "You haven’t told me why you lied to me, though. I know there is a reason for that."

"Well..." Rhea shrugged. "I needed to have a reason to come back here."

"And using your mother’s necklace was a good idea?"

"I couldn’t think of anything."

"Why did you make me look for it?"

"Because..." Rhea sighed. "It was to take revenge on you. You have been so annoying these past days."

Reece smiled. "Wow. So you wanted revenge on me and you did this?" He scoffed slightly. "Can believe everyone kept taking their revenge on me today."

Rhea furrowed her brows. Does it have anything to do with Alan? Why does she feel like it does?

"Did Alan take his revenge on you? Did something happen between you two?"

Reece rolled his eyes. "Can I have some cookies please?"

Rhea brought out the pack of cookies and opened it up. She kept it on the bench and then brought out the bottles of milk in her bag. She had two of them.

Thank goodness she brought an extra one. She did not expect Reece to go with her, though.

"I did a great job, telling you to bring an extra one, right? Of course, I did." Sapphire boosted.

Rhea did not agree less this time. Sapphire had asked her to take an extra bottle of milk. Though she did not know why Sapphire said that to her, she went ahead to take it. She had thought the stone wanted milk, too, and that was her way of asking for one.

"You did not think I wanted to take it, did you?" Sapphire asked. "That hurts my ego. I am a stone. How can I want stuff like that?"

Rhea ignored Sapphire and dropped the bottles of milk on the bench.

"You can have one. If you want."

Reece nodded and took one of the bottles of milk. He will take that as his reward for looking for a necklace that was never missing.

"I will take this as my reward," he mumbled.

He opened it and drank a little from it. He is thirsty for water and not milk. But there is only one bottle of water here. That should be for Rhea.

"You can take the water if you want," Rhea said. "Don’t worry about me."

She had not read Reece’s mind; she can’t do that. But she could tell from his face that he was thirty.

She can also let him take it. She thought. After all, she was the reason he was thirsty now.

"Are you sure about this?" Reece asked.

Rhea nodded. "I am. Take it."

Reece picked the bottle of water up. "Then I won’t be saying no."

He opened it up and drank from it. He felt better and relaxed.

"Oh my goodness," he mumbled.

"I am sorry," Rhea mumbled. "I should have told you the necklace isn’t missing."

Reece shook his head. "You got your revenge. That is all that matters."

Rhea felt sorry for what she did. "I am..."

"What do you like about this place?" Reece asked, changing the conversation. He picked up a cookie and took a bite from it. "This is nice. Did you say Celia made it?"

He doesn’t want her to apologize. She thought. Then she won’t.

She nodded. "Yes, she did. Do you like it?"

Reece nodded. "I do. Can you also make this?"

"I can’t. But I do help out."

Reece nodded but said nothing. Rhea took a cookie, too, and began to eat as silence took over the atmosphere.

"I asked a question," Reece said, trying to start up a conversation again. "What do you like about this place? Why do you always come here?"

"The scenery," Rhea answered. "I love how quiet it is. You can only hear the sound of the ocean."

As Rhea went on to explain what she liked about the House of Seashells, Reece could not help but admire her. She looked different from the timid Rhea he knew some months back.

"Do you know what I call this place?" Rhea asked.

"I do not. Tell me..."

"House of Seashells," Rhea answered with a smile. "It’s surprising how people complained of not seeing seashells whenever they come to the sea but I get them without going to the sea."

"What does it feel like to be a mermaid?" Reece asked.

Rhea shrugged. "I don’t know... I haven’t thought about that. Do you know why?"

Reece shook his head. "No, I don’t."

"Because I haven’t come to terms with what I might be. I..." Rhea sighed.

She doesn’t know what to say.

"Because you don’t have your powers yet?" Reece asked.

Rhea shook her head. That is not the reason. Everything just felt unreal to her.

Just a few months ago, she was just a simple little girl, living a peaceful life.

Who would have thought that she wasn’t an ordinary girl like that thought she is?

She sighed. "It is difficult to believe that I am who they say I am."

Reece patted her. "I am sure every one of us must have felt like this when we first knew who we were. You will feel better soon."

"Thank you, Reece," Rhea mumbled.

"It’s my pleasure."

Rhea picked up a cookie and began to eat. A hand touched her. Rhea thought it was Reece but when she turned to face him, she realized he wasn’t looking at her.

It can’t be Sapphire. Is it? Rhea wondered.

"That’s not me," Sapphire answered.

Rhea furrowed her brows. Who...

"Aqua?" She heard.

It was a familiar voice. Rhea turned quickly and beside her was Aquamarine.

"Aquamarine!" Rhea shouted.

"Shh..." Aquamarine placed her water index finger over Rhea’s mouth. "He doesn’t know I am here. Don’t draw his attention."

Rhea smiled. Aquamarine...
