WHEN THE SEA CALLS
Chapter 49: Night in Day Time

Chapter 49: Night in Day Time

Reece was skeptical at first to let Leslie help him with the transfer of the light he had absorbed to Alan. But after much thought, he agreed to it.

"Come with me," Leslie said.

"What about Rhea?" Reece asked.

Rhea was still seated on the bed, her eyes closed.

Leslie smiled. "Don’t worry about her. She will go back to sleep."

"And Celia?" Reece asked. "Won’t she suspect a thing when she wakes up and Rhea is not by her side?"

"You can wake her up like you did the other time and bring her back here," Leslie said.

Reece nodded. That is a good idea.

"I will be right back," he said and left.

Leslie moved closer to Rhea and sat down. She placed her hand on Rhea’s face.

"I have finally found you."

Rhea could feel Leslie’s touch and hear her words too.

What does Leslie mean about that? She wondered.

Aqua stood up from the ground. "Are you still in pain?"

"The pain has subsided. Thanks to you," Rhea replied.

"I have to leave," Aqua said. "I do not know when next I will get to talk to you. You have to rely on Leslie and Reece for now."

Rhea furrowed her brows. "I won’t be seeing you?"

"For a while. I do not always show up because I want to. Some situations trigger my appearance. Like when a pink cloud shows up in the sky or when the bluestone beams. I do not know what other ways can make me come to you yet."

Does Aqua need a way to see her? Isn’t she the Aqua?

"You must have a lot of questions," Aqua said.

Rhea nodded. "I do. Why do you need..."

She groaned slightly. She doesn’t know what to say.

"You want to know why I needed a medium to come to you right?" Aqua asked.

Rhea nodded. Those are the words she was looking for.

"Because I am a fragment of Aqua’s soul. She must have known she was going to die, so she created me."

Rhea furrowed her brows. She doesn’t understand a thing. Is Aqua trying to say that she is not Aqua but a fragment of Aqua’s soul?

"I do not..."

"I have to go, Rhea. My time is up. You can ask Leslie most of the questions you have. She will answer them. You can trust her too. Whenever we meet again, I will answer any other questions you have for me."

"Can I ask you just a question?" Rhea asked.

"About what?"

"Aquamarine. Do you know when she will be back?"

"I can’t say but she will be back soon. She left because she suspected your secret was about to be exposed."

Rhea nodded. She knows that Aquamarine left because of Reece and their new friend. She sighed. She wished Aquamarine would be back soon.

Aqua pointed. "Your sister is back. You should return too. She will be awake soon."

Reece had brought Celia back to Rhea’s bed. Leslie was still seated beside Rhea just staring at her. She has been wondering how Rhea became Odin’s daughter.

Was his wife a mermaid and he doesn’t know about it? Or how did Rhea become a mermaid and Celia isn’t?

"Thanks for helping me out," Rhea said to Aqua.

"I hope when I see you next, you will be stronger and getting ready to lead our people back to the sea," Aqua said.

Rhea blinked. She is expected to lead the mermaids back to the sea? How is she supposed to do that?

Aqua flicked her fingers. "What are you thinking about?"

"Nothing," Rhea shook her head.

"Then I will send you back."

Aqua flicked her fingers three times and Rhea opened her eyes back to reality. Beside her was seated Leslie staring at her. Celia was seated on the stool beside her but she laid her head on the bed, fast asleep. And standing by the curtain was Reece.

Rhea stared at Leslie and then at Reece not sure of what to say to them.

"Hi," she waved at them after a while of silence.

"Hi," Reece answered.

He was reserved now; not trying to piss her off.

Leslie stood up. "You must be tired. You should have some rest. Reece and I have something to do."

Rhea nodded and lay down on the bed. She had decided not to say a word because she didn’t know what to say. She was certain Leslie and Reece had a lot of questions for her, too, but maybe they were giving her some time to adjust.

She closed her eyes and sighed. Maybe when the tension goes down, they might have something to say to each other.

"Reece," Leslie called. "Come with me." Reece followed Leslie out and they sat down. "Let me help you transfer it quickly before Celia wakes up."

Reece nodded and stretched his hand. Leslie placed two fingers on his wrist and closed her eyes.

"Close your eyes, Reece, and think about him. It makes it easier to get to him."

Reece closed his eyes but opened them. He still has some doubts.

"Would Alan feel the transmission of the..."

"He won’t. If his power isn’t strong enough," Leslie answered. "But if it’s stronger than mine, he will. So you should know which it will be."

Alan’s power can’t match Leslie’s. Can it? Reece thought. Alan has been practicing for a while now but that cannot be compared to the years Leslie has been practicing. Can it?

"You can go on. I don’t think he would notice that."

"Let me know when you are ready," Leslie said.

Reece closed his eyes and tried to create Alan’s image in his mind.

"I am ready," he muttered.

"Then I will start," Leslie said.

She raised her two fingers up, muttered some words, and placed those fingers on Reece’s wrist. Blue light began to radiate from Reece’s wrist, casting a glow around them.

The room was soon filled up with the blue light and that got Rhea’s attention. She opened her eyes. She opened the curtain to see Leslie and Reece. The blue light was coming from them.

What is going on? Rhea wondered.

Everywhere was getting dark already. Rhea wondered if it was only the clinic affected by it. She went to look through the window and noticed everywhere was dark; she could hardly see a thing outside.

Rhea contemplated whether to face Leslie and Reece now and ask them what they were doing or wait until they were done and then demand an explanation.

After much thought, Rhea shook her head. They are both much more powerful than she is. She can’t walk up to them and question them or demand an explanation; she doesn’t think they owe her one.

She returned to lie down on her bed and closed her eyes.

Aqua had told her to trust them. She has to.

The blue light coming out of Reece’s wrist had now found its way to the English Class where Alan was, as it found its way into his body.

Alan could tell something was going on but he could not say what it was. Maia and April felt it too.

"Do you feel strange? What is going on?" April whispered.

"I do not know what is going on," Maia answered. "I thought I was the only one who felt it."

April and Maia had both felt the presence of the bluestone a while ago but this was different.

"It can’t be the bluestone again. Can it?" April asked.

Maia shook her head. "I do not think so. This feels different. I can’t say..."

"Look," a student pointed. "Is it going to rain?"

Everyone stared at the window. The sky was getting dark and everyone thought it was going to rain.

Alan noticed there was something wrong with the clouds so he stood up and walked to the window. Louie had noticed it, too; he stood up and walked to the window, too.

What could be going on? Louie thought. Why are there dark clouds?

Alan, who noticed Louie standing beside him, only stared at him but said nothing.

The room had become very dark now, all the students could hardly see themselves. Most of them began to murmur. A few of them put on their phones’ lights.

Louie had a feeling something wasn’t right, but he could not say what it was. He couldn’t use his wizard power either, or the students might be frightened, and the news of a wizard in school would be all over the place.

He noticed the class, which was filled with noise from the students, had suddenly become quiet; he turned. None of the students were moving, including Maia and April. Louie stared at Alan and he wasn’t moving too.

Is he in a trance? Louie wondered. Is he about to get a prophecy?

A blue light broke out of Alan’s body and took over the class. The strength was so great it pushed Louie to the wall.

Louie groaned as he felt a sharp pain in his waist, elbows, and back.

What is going on? What sort of light is that?

Myles walked in. He had also seen the blue light and followed it to Louie’s class. He rushed towards Louie.

"Are you okay?" Myles asked.

"I am fine. But what the hell is that!" Louie pointed at the blue light.

"That is the light from the bluestone of the mermaids."

Louie blinked. Are there mermaids in this school? What is the bluestone doing here? And why is it shining on Alan?
