Chapter 23: Chapter 23: An Accidental Kiss (Part 3)

After tidying up, Tang Yanqi went to the library early. Her tutoring class was at two in the afternoon, so she could have lunch before going.

Perhaps it was because of Sheng Jianan’s presence, the library was much emptier than usual today.

K University is a renowned institution in the country, and most of the people who can get in are top students. Hence, the library here would not be as deserted as those in other schools. Though not packed, it was never as empty as today.

Tang Yanqi found a seat by the window, took out some related papers and materials for her chosen topic, and started reading. But as she read, her thoughts drifted off somewhere unknown.

Her gaze involuntarily drifted out the window. In the distance, she saw the large characters for "Gymnasium." Tang Yanqi found it a bit amusing. Was K University toying with her? Why build the library to echo the gymnasium?

Tang Yanqi admitted she actually wanted to go. But the difference between humans and animals is that humans have self-control. You can’t just do whatever you feel like doing; that would be chaotic.

Her gaze returned to the paper, but Tang Yanqi couldn’t focus on a single word. Her eyes gradually glazed over, her thoughts increasingly dazed, taking her back to that long-ago afternoon.

It was the afternoon when she first met Sheng Jianan.

That year, she was nine. It was her third year in the Tang family, becoming the daughter of the Tang family. It was also the year when the Tang family welcomed a new young master. Hence, the Tang family invited many friends and relatives for a gathering, and there, Tang Yanqi met the thirteen-year-old Sheng Jianan.

The thirteen-year-old boy was already over 1.7 meters tall, unlike his peers, with a steadiness and an ever-present touch of pride in his eyes that made Sheng Jianan particularly striking.

What were her feelings then? Tang Yanqi had mostly forgotten, only remembering that he, among the crowd, easily attracted attention.

Was it affection?

Nine-year-old Tang Yanqi didn’t know. She only knew that she found the name "Sheng Jianan" pleasing to the ear. She thought boys looked handsome in white shirts. She admired that a silver watch worn on a boy’s wrist looked so fashionable. She realized that a person’s eyes filled with pride could be so beautiful.

Later on, whenever she heard someone mention the Sheng Family or Sheng Jianan, Tang Yanqi’s ears would instinctively perk up, listening intently.

The first real close encounter she had with Sheng Jianan was four years later when he returned to the country for eye surgery. At that time, Sheng Jianan couldn’t see her, but she could boldly look at him. It was then that Tang Yanqi discovered that even without those proud eyes, he was still so beautiful, still so magnetic.

That was Tang Yanqi’s most carefree summer...

A gentle breeze blew in from outside the window, disturbing her train of thought. Tang Yanqi suddenly snapped back to reality. She hadn’t thought about these things for a long time. Why was she remembering them now?

She reached out to straighten her hair. She shouldn’t be thinking about these things, as they only served to upset her further.

Perhaps someone might be curious; she liked Sheng Jianan, and now she was rightfully Young Madam Sheng, so why not seize the opportunity close at hand?

The reason...

There were many!

For example, Sheng Jianan has a girl in his heart. Or, he despises arranged marriages.

Moreover, how could she, Tang Yanqi, ever be worthy of him? Heaven’s favored son, eternally aloof, how could a child born out of wedlock ever be worthy of him?
