Chapter 108: Facing Cain
Samuel took a step forward, his heart pounding. "I know what you’ve been doing, Cain. This ends now."
Cain leaned back in his chair, amusement glinting in his eyes. "What are you talking about?"
Timmy moved to Samuel’s side, ready for whatever came next. "You’ve been using Marlo," Samuel pressed, trying to keep the confrontation focused. "Manipulating him for your own gain."
Cain waved a dismissive hand. "Marlo? Who’s that?"
"Who?" Samuel spat, anger bubbling inside him. "You’ve put his life in danger. You’ve been playing games with people’s lives."
Cain leaned forward, a glimmer of menace in his gaze. "I don’t know what you’re talking about, Samuel. You think you can just walk in here and threaten me?"
"I’m not here to threaten you," Samuel said, his voice low and steady. "I’m here to put an end to your lies."
Suddenly, a shadowy figure turned, revealing a familiar face. It was the man Marlo had operated on—the one who looked like James. Samuel’s heart sank as he realized the full extent of Cain’s plan.
"You see, Samuel," Cain said, his tone mocking, "I’ve always been one step ahead. You’ve walked right into my trap."
The tension in the room crackled like electricity. Samuel’s mind raced, searching for a way out.
"Enough games," Samuel said, his voice strong. "You won’t get away with this. I’ll expose you for what you are."
Cain’s laughter filled the room, chilling Samuel to the bone. "You think you can take me down? You’re in over your head."
"Why are you doing this?" Samuel asked, trying to understand Cain’s motives.
Cain’s smile faded, replaced by a sneer. "Because I hated your family. I hated how you all acted so high and mighty. I hated how you kept ordering me around just because you had more wealth than me."
"My grandpa treated you nicely," Samuel countered, disbelief etched on his face. "How could you say that?"
"Nice?" Cain laughed coldly. "That’s the opposite. I know he looked down at me, like I was just a dog he could easily order around. I did not study hard my whole life only to be treated like a dog!"
"But that wasn’t enough reason for you to do this," Samuel pressed, trying to find logic in Cain’s madness.
"I had enough," Cain said, his voice rising. "I have my pride, and I hate how you guys trample over it. So I decided to take your power and wealth. Let’s see if you can still act high and mighty."
"So it was really you who sent those messages about James being alive," Samuel said, realization dawning.
Cain smiled coldly. "It was fun playing around with you. Honestly, I didn’t know about James until Revilo told me about his existence. That’s how I got the idea—after all, I’m not the assigned lawyer of your grandfather’s will."
"I honestly enjoyed your family drama," Cain continued, his voice dripping with malice. "Who would have thought you weren’t exactly the heir of Lucas Realty Group but someone who’s missing and declared dead. Not just that—he’s also the same person who is actually your fiancée’s lost love. How great is that drama?" He laughed mockingly.
Samuel’s heart raced with anger and confusion. He felt trapped in a nightmare, but he knew he had to stay strong. "You’re sick, Cain. This isn’t a game."
Cain shrugged. "Well, now that you’ve found out about my plan, I think it’s better to shut you up. Without you around, I can freely declare to people that James is alive."
He called out to his men, his voice dripping with arrogance. "Come and take a hold of Samuel! You thought you were one step ahead of me. You are wrong! Soon, you will be together with that traitor Marlo while I’ll be holding your power and wealth of the company." Cain’s smile turned creepy as he reveled in his perceived victory.
Minutes passed, and the sound of footsteps never came. The tension in the room thickened, and Cain’s confident facade began to crack. "Where are they?" he muttered, irritation creeping into his tone.
He pressed a button on the intercom, his voice sharp. "Get up here! What’s taking so long?" But no one answered. Silence enveloped the room, and unease flickered in Cain’s eyes.
Samuel couldn’t help but laugh, a mix of relief and triumph coursing through him. "No one is coming to help you, Cain. Everything you just said has been recorded, and witnesses are waiting for the police surrounding the place. It’s over for you."
Cain’s phone rang, cutting through the tension. He glanced at the screen and answered, his expression shifting to one of panic. "What?" he snapped into the phone.
Revilo’s voice sounded urgent and angry. "Cain! What is this? What’s happening? Why are the police after me? Did you get exposed? You told me it would be safe and no one would know. What is it this time? I cannot go to prison without bringing down Samuel!"
Cain’s eyes widened as he looked at Samuel, fear etched across his face. "You? What have you done?"
Samuel met his gaze steadily. "It’s over for you, Cain. Better explain that to the precinct."
With that, Samuel turned away, followed closely by Timmy. They walked toward the door just as the sound of police sirens grew louder outside. The door burst open, and officers flooded the room, their badges shining under the harsh lights.
"Walter Cain," one of the officers shouted, "you’re under arrest for multiple charges, including fraud, conspiracy, and endangering lives."
Samuel paused at the threshold, casting one last glance at Cain.
"I hope you enjoy your stay in prison," Samuel said, letting the weight of his words sink in. "You won’t be able to manipulate anyone from behind bars."
As the officers secured Cain, Samuel felt a rush of relief. The fight wasn’t over, but this was a significant victory. With each step away from that office, he felt the chains of Cain’s manipulation break away.
Timmy clapped a hand on Samuel’s shoulder as they stepped outside. "You did it, boss. You really did it."
Samuel nodded, feeling a mix of exhaustion and triumph. "Yeah, but it’s not just about this. We have to make sure Marlo and everyone else is safe. And we still need to deal with Revilo."
Timmy looked serious. "We’ll handle it."
As they walked toward the car, Samuel’s thoughts turned to Zinnia. He knew he had to protect her from whatever fallout was coming next.
