When I Left, He Found His Way Back
Chapter 51: Abducted

Chapter 51: Abducted

It was me, who had walked in on them, who had run away, and who had been chased down the stairs. I felt like I was going to be sick. How did this get out? And who was behind it? I thought I had kept the whole thing a secret, but now it seemed like the whole school knew.

I felt a wave of panic wash over me as I realized the implications. Sandra and Professor Ednut would think I did it. I looked up at Joseph, who was watching me with a concerned expression.

"Hey, are you okay?" he asked, his voice soft.

I put his phone on the table and hastened out of the class to call Sandra. If she wasn’t in school yet, she shouldn’t bother coming. And if she hasn’t seen the forum, she shouldn’t bother checking.

Walking away from the building, I quickly dialed her number, my heart racing with anxiety. She picked up on the first ring, and I could hear the cheerful tone in her voice.

"Hey, Jessica! I’m surprised you called me. What’s up?"

Oh my god, she’s so lively. I wonder what this would do to her.

I bit my lip and took a deep breath, trying to break the news to her gently. "Sandra, you need to stay away from school today," I said, my voice low and urgent.

"What’s going on?" she asked, her tone changing to one of concern.

I hesitated, unsure of how to tell her. "Just trust me, okay? Don’t come to school, and don’t check the forum."

There was a pause on the other end of the line, and for a moment, I thought she had hung up. But then she spoke, her voice barely above a whisper. "Have I been exposed?"

My fist clenched my phone tightly as I hesitated, unsure of how to respond. I didn’t want to lie to her, but I also didn’t want to be the one to confirm her worst fears. "Sandra, I..." I started, but she cut me off.

"Just tell me," she whispered, her voice cracking with emotion.

I took a deep breath and let it out slowly. "Yes, you’ve been exposed," I said, the words feeling like a weight on my tongue.

There was another pause, then, I heard something falling.

"Sandra!" I panicked. But then I heard a faint sob, and my heart went out to her. "Sandra, I’m so sorry," I said, feeling helpless.

"What am I going to do?" she whispered, her voice barely audible. "Going to that school was my only hope of being relevant to my family. Now, it’s all being ruined." Her words were laced with desperation and despair, and I could feel her pain and frustration through the phone.

I wished I could reach out and hug her, tell her that everything would be okay. But I knew that wasn’t possible. "Sandra, you can’t let this define you," I said, trying to sound calm and reassuring. "You’re more than this one situation. You’re smart, talented, and capable. Don’t let anyone make you feel otherwise."

"You don’t understand, Jessica. I’ve always been a disappointment. I’ve never been a child to be proud of..." her voice cracked and then, the beeping sound came.

"Sandra! Sandra!" I cursed, feeling horrible. This was bad.

Just when I glanced up at the building, I saw professor Ednut watching me from the window of his office. My heart sank and I felt a shiver run down my spine.

"Hey," Max’s voice came from the side. I’ve hand was in his pants and the other was holding a lollipop. He had one in his mouth.

"Hi," I looked up at the window again, but Professor Ednut was gone.

"What are you looking at?" Max stood beside me, always looking up at the window.

"It’s nothing." I turned to leave but he gripped my wrist, stopping me from leaving.

"Don’t leave, Jessica."

"Why not? I have classes," I said, not looking back at him. I tried to wiggle my wrist away from his clutches, but his grip tightened.

"We need to talk." Without giving me the chance to decline, he pulled me away to his car.

"What are you doing? Let go!"

He ignored me and continued forward. His strides devoured the distance and in no time, we were standing by his sports car. He opened the door, "Please," he gestured for me to go in.

"No. I’m not going anywhere with you!" I barked at him, feeling annoyed.

Suddenly, I felt the world spin around me, and a shrill tore through my throat, feeling myself being lifted off the ground, and then I was being placed into the car.

I struggled, but against someone as strong as Max, I stood no chance. Sitting me in the car, he hooked the seat belt against my will, saying. "The harder you struggle, the more reason you give me not to stop," then, he locked eyes with me, and with all seriousness in the world, he uttered. "And believe me, Jessica, I will kiss you if you don’t stop."

I froze, my heart racing with fear and adrenaline. Max’s words sent a shiver down my spine, and I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. Who did he think he was, threatening me like that? I tried to speak, but my voice caught in my throat.

I didn’t dare to struggle. The car’s roof was opened, giving everyone who cared about us an easy view of the scene unfolding before them. I felt a wave of embarrassment wash over me, knowing that anyone could see me being dragged away by Max. But more than that, I was scared. I didn’t know what Max was capable of, or what he planned to do with me.

I glanced around, hoping to catch Annabelle. At least, she was the only one who seemed to have a handle on Max, but she was nowhere in sight. I turned to my phone, trying to call her, but Max snatched it from me, when her name popped up.

"Don’t even think about it." He threw my phone to the back of the car and drove off.
