"Mr. Tony, some killers don't have to look like they're capable of committing a crime at all."

With a mysterious smile on his face, Bai Liang approached the body, crouched down, and carefully examined the hole at the back of the victim's head.

"You can kill without acting with your own hands."

Tony and Blaney exchanged glances, then stepped closer to Bai Liang.

"But any hypothesis must conform to logic," Tony remarked seriously.

Bai Liang spun a finger by his temple, then looked at Tony and chuckled:

"It's the police's job to follow logic and gather evidence. A detective simply needs to solve the case, by any means available. Isn't that right?"

Tony froze for a moment, then suddenly burst out laughing:

"No wonder you're a graduate of Mantis College, well said!"

"That's right, finding evidence and forming logical hypotheses is the police's duty. But a detective's task is to find the killer, no matter the cost."

Then he turned to Blaney and, grinning, added:

"Mr. Sheriff, it seems I can no longer call myself the best detective. Our new colleague clearly possesses all the qualities a true investigator should have."

"Years of working as a detective made me too cautious, accustomed me to obeying logic. I started to think within patterns... And perhaps, I lost my true nature."

"But he, Mr. Bai Liang, is a true detective!"

Bai Liang stood up, lightly patted Tony on the shoulder, and said:

"Mr. Tony, don't underestimate yourself. You're still an excellent detective."

"And I'm just a newcomer; there's still much I need to learn from you."

Hearing such modesty, Tony beamed a wide smile and quipped:

"So, that's what the phrase 'a true master always retains the heart of a student' means?"

Bai Liang merely offered an enigmatic smile and beckoned him with his hand:

"Mr. Tony, let's go."

With these words, he headed for the exit.

"So, Detective Bai Liang, are we heading to the evidence you spoke of now?" Tony asked, following him.

"Yes," Bai Liang glanced back at Blaney and the others, raising an eyebrow. "Aren't the police coming with us?"

"They've stationed people on all the streets. By the time we arrive, our people will already be there," Tony explained.

The rain outside had already stopped. The gloomy sky had brightened a little, puddles remained on the roads, and the air was filled with a multitude of mixed scents.

Bai Liang and Tony, upon leaving the library, immediately headed toward the Detective Agency.

Tony started to say something several times, but each time he stopped himself.

Bai Liang seemed to notice his hesitation and said with a slight smile:

"Mr. Tony, if you have a question, don't hold back."

"Alright."

Tony raised an eyebrow:

"I'm just curious, how did you figure out that old man Barlow Byrne is the killer? You only arrived here yesterday and barely know anything about the case."

"I think I've already explained it," Bai Liang replied calmly.

Tony looked at him with an expression that said: Are you kidding me?

"You said you can stop time? Come on, I'd sooner believe you're Superman."

Hearing this, Bai Liang nodded and calmly replied:

"Alright. In that case, I am Superman."

Tony was so stunned he didn't even know how to react. But in the very next second, his brows smoothed out, because he saw a middle-aged man sitting on the steps of a closed shop.

"Hey! Light, what are you doing here?" Tony approached closer and slapped the man on the shoulder. "Didn't the boss give you any assignments? How are you just sitting here so calmly, smoking?"

Light raised his head, exhaled a stream of smoke, and looked at Tony with surprise:

"Well, well, isn't it our great Detective Tony?"

"I heard you just took on a new case, and yet you still have time to stroll the streets?"

Then Light noticed Bai Liang standing nearby and asked:

"Tony, is this the rookie you brought?"

"Yes, this is Bai Liang."

"He officially joined the agency this morning. A graduate of Mantis College, a real ace."

Tony nodded, then turned to Bai Liang and introduced Light to him:

"Bai Liang, this is Light."

"He's also a detective at our agency."

"He's been working for over ten years, a true veteran."

Bai Liang remained silent.

He suddenly remembered one of the rules from the manuscript.

"If you're on the street, don't greet colleagues. Don't show that you know each other."

But this rule contradicted another:

"Always carry your phone so you can contact your superiors."

If the first rule was true, then the second would be meaningless.

However, he had already spoken with Tony countless times.

Clearly, the rule wasn't formulated quite correctly.

Perhaps it should have specified that superiors were an exception.

If that nuance were added, all the rules would begin to form a logical system.

With this thought, Bai Liang decided that upon returning to the agency,

he should look for other detectives' manuscripts.

It was entirely possible that each had recorded their own additional rules.

"A graduate of Mantis College?"

Light was clearly surprised by Tony's words.

He stared at Bai Liang, and a hint of envy crept into his voice:

"Tony, you're incredibly lucky!"

"Why do I never get such talented rookies?!"

"The director is clearly biased."

He also had a rookie under his command, but it seemed that one's head wasn't very bright. And the academy he graduated from wasn't the best, so a lot had to be taught to him literally from scratch.

Now look at Tony and Bai Liang – the latter can already help Tony with investigations.

Indeed, comparing oneself to others only brings frustration, and comparing goods just makes you want to discard them.

"What 'bias'? You said it yourself – I'm the top detective at the agency! This is called 'deserved recognition'," Tony puffed out his chest proudly.

Light gave him a hefty kick, but Tony, as if anticipating it, deftly dodged.

"Get out of here! Don't disturb me enjoying the fresh air after the rain!" Light grumbled maliciously.

"Hahaha, well then, enjoy yourself, Light! We're off!" Tony chuckled slyly, waved his hand, and left.

A few minutes later,

They returned to the agency. Bai Liang noticed people entering and exiting the entrance, and through the panoramic windows, he could see quite a few people sitting inside.

"Hmm?"

Suddenly, he saw a familiar silhouette.

It was sitting in the corner on a sofa – in a crisp suit, with neatly combed hair, holding a notebook, and beside it sat Kuran, who was talking nonstop.

This person was very familiar to him.

They had met recently – at the Zero Clearing headquarters.

"Xu Yaowen?"

Bai Liang's lips curved into a slight smirk, and an inexplicable glint flashed in his eyes.

"Did you come to set a trap for me? Or is it just a coincidence that we're in the same dungeon?"

Well, suppose he came specifically for him.

The second option seemed too unlikely.

Xu Yaowen is an LV3 professional.

At that level, the minimum dungeon class is C.

So his appearance here...

If it wasn't a hunt for him, Bai Liang simply wouldn't believe it.

"Damn it... Why do all these idiots think they can kill me?"
