The two people's conversation drew to a close, their voices gradually fading. Suddenly, music played, not loud, but with a fast rhythm. A few seconds later, it was drowned out by the onset of rain.

A bright light illuminated everything, and after a moment of disorientation, Bai Liang found himself in a new, unfamiliar place. He was standing under the eaves of a house.

The sound of rain, hurried footsteps, breathing mingled with the scent of freshness and the smell of mud all surrounded him. It was a British-style street; the sky was grey, and heavy rain was falling.

People rushed past, hurrying about their business. A middle-aged man in a hat, with a newspaper over his head, scurried past Bai Liang, his leather shoes splashing water as he stepped into puddles.

"Bai Liang? Bai Liang?" a voice suddenly called out, drawing Bai Liang's attention.

He turned and saw a man with a handlebar mustache standing by the door, waving at him.

Bai Liang walked towards him.

The man asked with a surprised expression: "Are you daydreaming? Today's your first day of work; you shouldn't make a bad impression on the boss. This isn't what's expected of you from the Mantis College student union."

"My apologies," Bai Liang said with a slight apology.

The man shook his head: "Alright, don't stand at the door, come inside."

He opened the door and stepped inside.

Bai Liang looked up the shop sign was a bit old; it read: "Landen Detective Agency."

Seeing this sign, Bai Liang froze for a moment. Memories suddenly surfaced in his mind.

"Landen Detective Agency? It looks like something I once saw in streams..."

The Landen Detective Agency – he had once seen this quest in a broadcast, so he knew a bit about its rules.

Unfortunately, however, the streamer he had been watching didn't last long there he soon died after breaking one of the rules.

Bai Liang didn't linger and followed inside.

The Landen Detective Agency, also known simply as the Detective Agency.

It is an organization dedicated to private investigations and sleuthing. When a client approaches them, the detectives provide services such as surveillance, case investigation, information gathering, and other similar tasks.

Players entering this quest are assigned the role of a rookie detective who has just joined.

Stepping inside, the first thing Bai Liang noticed was the old-fashioned atmosphere. The entire setting looked as if it were stuck somewhere in the 1960s or 70s.

Old-fashioned hanging lamps, worn-out cabinets, a crackling fireplace against the wall all this lent the place a special, retro-detective ambiance.

The man with the mustache walked ahead, and Bai Liang followed him, carefully surveying the room.

Inside, several people were seated on leather sofas.

Noticing the mustachioed man enter, one of them a lean young man with a wrinkled face said with a chuckle:

"Hey, Toni! Why are you so early today? That's not like our agency's lead detective at all!"

The man named Toni glanced at him and replied with a smile:

"I wouldn't have come so early, but we have a newcomer today. As a senior employee, it's certainly my duty to look after him."

Hearing this, the people sitting in the hall finally noticed Bai Liang, and a clear interest flickered in their eyes.

The lean young man whistled in surprise:

"Wow! This guy looks pretty good. I'm sure the girls on this street will definitely take a liking to him."

He slyly narrowed his eyes and turned to Toni:

"If you don't mind, how about sending him with me after work? I'll show our newcomer how we typically celebrate new acquaintances among colleagues here."

Hearing his words, Toni immediately raised a hand, interrupting his interlocutor, and exclaimed indignantly:

"Oh, my Lord! Bai Liang is a student from Mantis College! Do you even understand what it means to graduate from there?! If the president finds out you're spouting such nonsense, he'll surely kick your backside with his size 43 boot!"

But the lean young man paid no attention to his words whatsoever.

He exchanged glances with the others, and soon the whole company erupted in loud laughter.

"Toni, don't be so serious!" the lean young man waved his hand carelessly. "We just wanted to take care of the newcomer and leave him with a good first impression!"

Toni chuckled softly:

"Kuran, if only your lies were as few as your muscles."

Then he turned around and, with a wink, warned:

"Don't believe a single word these guys say! You won't get anything good from them."

"Understood," Bai Liang smiled and nodded.

"Alright, let's go. I'll give you a tour first, and introduce you to our work."

Toni turned around and headed for the stairs.

Bai Liang cast a glance at the guys on the sofa, then followed Toni up the stairs.

---

"Oh, the poor guy!" someone from those remaining drawled, shaking their head.

"To end up under Toni's command... Well, he always handles the most dangerous cases."

"That doesn't concern us. Who gets the newcomer is up to the president."

"Alright, that's not the point right now. I also have a new guy here Xu Yaowen, I need to meet him. I'm off."

"Hmm? What? You have a newcomer too?"

"Wait... Judging by your face... Could it be that you also got a recruit?!"

"Ha ha ha! Could it be that the president decided we old-timers are too tired already, and specifically brought in new guys to help us out?"

"Well then, let's go together!"

On the second floor was a small attic, filled with numerous bookshelves and glass display cases. Books and various materials were neatly stored within them.

"Have a seat."

Toni sat down on a chair, took out a cigarette, lit it, and gestured to the spot opposite him.

Bai Liang sat opposite him, watching as Toni opened a small cabinet at his feet and pulled out a black notebook.

"I won't explain what a detective should do you're already well acquainted with that from the academy. This notebook here it contains my personal observations and experiences. You can take a look."

Toni handed him the notebook.

"Actually, you could have explained..." Bai Liang thought to himself, taking the notebook and opening the first page.

He had expected to see a set of rules or some instructions, but it turned out to truly contain Toni's reflections based on personal experience.

Truthfully, at first glance, they were unlikely to be of much help in completing missions.

"You..." Toni had just opened his mouth to say something, but at that moment, a sudden phone call interrupted him.

He gave Bai Liang an apologetic look, then pulled out his mobile and answered the call.

Approximately ten seconds later, his initially calm expression abruptly shifted to one of tension.

"What?!"

"Seriously?"

"Alright, I'm heading out! Where is it?"

"Understood, I'll be there in ten minutes. Pay attention to the important details and let me know..."

Finishing the conversation, Toni looked at Bai Liang with regret.

"Bai Liang, I'm sorry. I'm afraid your introduction to the work won't go as I planned. I have a very important matter that has come up, and I must leave urgently."
