Weird Rules Rumor: At The Beginning, He Insisted That He Was Not Dead -
Chapter 165: Letter from the Future (16)
Unexpected?
Not entirely, it seemed.
Seeing the white-haired girl seated on the chair, Bai Liang froze for a moment, but within a few seconds, he realized what was happening.
So, the person mentioned in the letter, it was Mo Lu.
But why was she here?
Could she truly move between different "copies" of realities?
Or was this "world" connected to Laboratory 45?
"Long time no see," Bai Liang said with a smile.
He approached and calmly sat down opposite Mo Lu.
"Is that your pet?" Mo Lu asked, glancing at Facai, who was settled on Bai Liang's shoulder. Her eyes gleamed like precious gems, and her voice was as melodious as the ringing of bells."Yes, I found him on the street," Bai Liang nodded, watching her closely.
He noticed that the current Mo Lu was vastly different from the one he had encountered in one of the "copies."
Her appearance remained the same, but her eyes now shone brighter. They were no longer as vacant as before.
The White Lab Coat fit her perfectly, as if it had been tailored specifically for her.
There was no badge on her chest, which meant she wasn't registered as an employee of the research center.
But her presence here clearly indicated that she knew of his whereabouts.
Given what Bai Liang knew about Mo Lu, her appearance in the Scientific Research Building didn't surprise him. What was surprising was how she knew he was specifically here.
"You're probably curious why I'm here?" Mo Lu looked at Bai Liang, instantly guessing his thoughts.
At her words, Bai Liang pondered for a moment, then replied:
"I saw the note you left on the Century Express train."
As he said this, he suddenly froze, frowning slightly:
"Did you know in advance that the Century Express would enter the fog?"
Otherwise, how could she have written the note beforehand, and how did he, specifically, find it?
Mo Lu shook her head and replied with a faint smile:
"I left such notes in many places, not just on the Century Express."
"Many? Just how many?" Bai Liang pressed.
Mo Lu made a gesture with her hand:
"Maybe in every car, on every path traveled, in every house I stayed, every day..."
She smiled even wider:
"There were so many that I don't even remember the exact number myself."
Bai Liang's eyes widened in surprise. Even to him, accustomed to strangeness, this seemed incredible.
"And all of this just for me to find?"
"Mhm," Mo Lu replied, tilting her head slightly. "Because it only makes sense if you find it, doesn't it?"
"You're right," Bai Liang smiled, and glancing out the window, he quietly murmured:
"It seems the dandelion has finally caught up with the wind after all."
Mo Lu, propping her chin on her hand, watched him with a thoughtful expression:
"If only that were true, it would be wonderful. I've been searching for too long, A-Liang..."
Suddenly, she stood up, took a glass test tube from her pocket, and handed it to Bai Liang, who looked at her in bewilderment.
Her face was still adorned with a dazzling smile that somehow made him uneasy:
"Here's your answer. Just hand this to Professor Zhang; he'll know what to do with it."
Bai Liang took the test tube. Inside, a drop of bright red liquid, resembling a ruby resting at the bottom, shimmered.
And at that moment, something happened.
He felt a warm touch envelop his cheeka graceful, snow-white palm brushed his face, but it soon pulled back, as if from an electric shock.
Mo Lu clenched her hand into a fist, as if trying to preserve that sensation in her palm forever.
She looked at Bai Liang, and her smile, just like when they first met, was filled with tears:
"Go forth. I'll catch up to you, I'll definitely catch up..."
Her words sounded like the last notes of ringing bells, fading in the wind. Mo Lu vanished as suddenly as she had appeared, as if she had never been there at all.
Bai Liang looked at the empty room, feeling a strange, oppressive emptiness for the first time.
Mo Lu, the test tube, the answers...
Clutching the test tube in his hand, he involuntarily recalled her words, which echoed in his mind.
Beep-beep-beep!
At that moment, a call rang from his pocket.
Bai Liang took out his phoneit was a device issued by the Sun Eclipse Biotechnology corporation. All work-related matters were handled exclusively through it.
An unknown number flashed on the screen. Bai Liang pressed the answer button.
"Mr. Bai Liang, we'd like to discuss the matter of information exchange regarding the copies," a young, slightly hoarse voice, intentionally muffled, spoke from the other end.
Bai Liang frowned:
"Who are you?"
"You don't need to know that now. If you agree, we'll explain everything."
"Sun Ping?"
"How did you... Cough, cough, you're mistaken, I'm not Sun Ping," the voice on the other end sounded a little flustered but tried to quickly recover. His attempt to conceal his identity was unconvincing.
Before Bai Liang could reply, arguing voices could be heard from the receiver.
"Idiot, he clearly recognized your voice! Just tell him directly!"
"Alright, alright... Bai Liang, how did you know it was me?" Sun Ping finally asked, with clear surprise in his voice. He was genuinely confused, as he had intentionally altered his voice, and it was nothing like the original.
"Your behavior is like a classic sycophant; it can be felt even through the phone. There's no one else like you," Bai Liang chuckled.
After a short pause, he added:
"I don't care about what you're offering. And you'd better not mess with me."
With those words, he hung up.
---
"Damn it!" Sun Ping cursed, looking at the disconnected phone.
Standing in one of the rooms on the first floor of the Scientific Research Building, he irritably exclaimed:
"That bastard! You offer him a decent deal, and he prefers to get a rough deal. He could have just politely refused, but he had to threaten me too? If only it weren't for..."
He didn't get to finish speaking before a bald man standing nearby waved his hand, cutting him off:
"Enough with your nonsense. What's the point of your threats? If you're so tough, go deal with him yourself!"
Sun Ping's mouth twitched at the corner as he retorted:
"What's the big deal? Even if I don't dare to cross him, does that mean I can't even say a few words behind his back? Is he going to teleport here and kill me?"
At these words, he suddenly cut himself off, as if remembering something terrifying. His gaze noticeably changed; he nervously glanced around, making sure Bai Liang hadn't appeared nearby.
After he checked the room and confirmed there was nothing suspicious, he exhaled with relief.
"I almost forgot, his file mentioned that this guy can indeed teleport," he muttered.
In the room, besides Sun Ping and the bald man, there were five other people.
All seven of them belonged to the same organization and had specifically synchronized to enter the dungeon simultaneously.
When the selection process took place, over a hundred people tried to enter the dungeon, but only these seven ended up in the same one.
However, their original goal wasn't related to Bai Liang. They had simply come to explore the dungeon, as usual.
However, after learning more about Bai Liang, they realized how dangerous he was. Those who tried to pursue him were clearly out of their minds.
The bald man took out a cigarette, placed it between his teeth, and, lighting it, asked the others:
"So what do we do now? This guy clearly has no interest in us."
They had called to propose cooperation with Bai Liang, hoping to "latch onto a powerful player" and achieve a high rating for their dungeon run.
But Bai Liang had no intention of accepting such an offer.
One of the skinny young men, propping his chin on his hand, thoughtfully said:
"Actually, I don't think we necessarily have to rely on him. This is a new dungeon, which means he doesn't know all the rules either."
"There are seven of us, and each of us can gather information individually. He alone definitely can't surpass our efficiency."
Then he turned to Sun Ping:
"Sun Ping, you're in the same laboratory department as him, aren't you? You can discreetly observe him and gather information. Perhaps we can even clear the dungeon faster than him!"
Sun Ping's expression changed:
"Are we enemies?"
